I got a snow day I got a snow day

And I am not even a teacher.  We went from no snow on Wednesday morning to 8-12 between my house and where I work (which is a 50 minute drive).  Chief of Staff said for non essential personnel to stay home and this girl is non essential.

And.... the retired older gentleman who has a serious love affair with his John Deere tractor, snow plow thingy had his wife call us and tell us he will help dig us out.  Our driveway is a couple hundred feet long so that is awesome.  I am going to bake him some cookies later.

What are y'all up to today?

Re: I got a snow day I got a snow day

  • Snow day too...well, work from home day. We ended up leaving work at 1pm yesterday and worked from home. I guess they closed all state government offices yesterday at noon on the whole lower peninsula.
  • We got a snow day last Tuesday, after both H and I had already had a 3 day weekend with President's day. We got a ton of snow dumped on our area pretty quickly and we both have 45 minute commutes so my boss said for me to stay home and H made the call for himself. Enjoy the unexpected day off!

I'm at work today - it's gross and rainy outside, but close 40 degrees so it's not awful. It's been slow going all day and I have a feeling that will continue through the afternoon. Luckily I have a yummy dinner to look forward to - butternut squash mac and cheese with brussel sprouts from our Home Chef box this week.
  • The overwhelming majority of us aren't set up to work at home so I am baking cookies for the neighbor guy and maybe doing some extra cleaning.  we got sent home at 1 yesterday too.

When I saw that all state offices and city of Lansing offices were closed today I kept waiting for a message from my boss.  I finally called him (he lives 10 min from the office) and said my carpool buddy got the notification and I wanted confirmation from him.  He was in the shower when it came through so he hadn't seen the message on his Blackberry before I called.  They waited til 0750 to make the call!

I never realized you were a fellow troll!  For those not from MI, a troll is someone who lives "below" the Mackinac Bridge.  That would be everyone who lives in the lower peninsula.
  • I can't complain about the snow because we have had a very mild Winter compared to the last 2.  We had some days in the 60's in December - good times.
  • Yup! I'm in Metro Detroit.

FI tried going into work today and blew put one of his tires. He made it back to the apartment okay, but is trying to put on the spare. I told him to call AAA earlier. He just tried to call but there's apparently a long line and since we are home, it isn't as urgent, so he's trying to do it on his own.
  • Is he still going to try to go to work?  How much snow did you guys get?
  • NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have only gotten at most a dusting this "winter". Hell, it's hardly even been below freezing here.

I'm working today and wishing I had a snow day. It has been pouring rain here to the point of flood warnings being issued. Yesterday, in the midst of all the nasty weather, a police chase ended here that had started in Nashville. That is 2 1/2 hours away.... give it up dude!

I can send you some snow if you like.  I have plenty.  Really.
  • No, he can work from home too. He just wanted to put the spare on so he could get it to the dealership which is just down the road from us. But a tow truck has been called.

We got several inches of snow. It started around 8am yesterday and went most of the day. Then it turned to hail, then sleet. Now it is back to snow. The thing is it got warmer and some of the snow melted, then got colder and turned to ice.
  • I'm having a fake snow day. FI is on day 3 of a fever so thankfully he got a real snow day and I'm in outside sales so I'm working from home so I could take him to urgent care.

I tried to shovel last night. I cleared the shared sidewalk and made a rectangle around our driveway (can hold 6 cars). The snow was way too heavy so that's all I did. And all of my hard work is covered because we've easily gotten an additional 2-3 on top of yesterday's 6!  Im in the West Wayne County suburbs. My best friend is north Woodward and has only like 3 inches!

Send some to Oregon too? Not that I am really complaining, but it's been sunny and warm here this month... I believe we have already had seven 60+ degree days, and it's supposed to hit 68 today.

We got a few days of snow/slush/ice earlier this winter, but otherwise it's been really warm here.

  • we got to leave early yesterday with the thought that snow and freezing temps were coming and might make the drive home difficult. As it turns out temps stayed high enough that nothing stuck to the streets. I sure would have liked to work from home today though

We are having the weirdest weather. It's warm 50 degrees here. Today I took my elderly parents to the blood lab, bank, pharmacy and grocery store. I didn't wear a coat. Now I'm home wasting time on TK and watching trash TV. I don't plan on being productive the rest of the day.

Last night, we had wicked storms with strong winds and thunder with lightning so vivid I could see it flashing with my eyes closed. Luckily, we didn't loose power, but there are many outages outside my little neighborhood.

I'm wondering how the mid Atlantic people fared last night with all the tornadoes.

  • Snow day? What is this thing you call a snow day? (All this laced with sarcasm)

Its 80 degrees and sunshiny with a little breeze here right now :)

Spring Break starts next week. Its a 2 month affair here and the college students rotate coming and going. There is some crossover though, most show up on Friday and leave a week later on Sunday.

Oh how I wish it was 80 and sunshiny here.  That's going to be awhile.
  • It's 2 days of Teacher PD at the moment.  I made it to 2 sessions, one of which was ok.  I'm now home, watching Dance Moms and eating peanut butter off a knife.  There were apples too, but that's gone, so now it's just the PB.  Oh, and I got to see a really good friend for lunch.  She's been on mat leave for almost a year now, so I can't wait for her to get back to work

  • Y'all better get that shit cleared out. I'm coming up to Detroit on Wednesday for the Hawks game.

  • Attention, attention:

We have a wintry mix falling in the Tennessee valley.

I take back my previous snarky comments about winter here. I'll take what I can get.

  • We had thunderstorms and tornados in NC (and VA as well) on Wednesday, sunshine yesterday, and winter cold weather today. Come on NC, get your shit together.

  • @ShesSoCold Good news:  It will be 50 on Sunday.  Bad news:  snows again on Monday.
