Wedding Woes

Current obsessions

What are you currently obsessed with?  Show/makeup/food whatever.  What's making you happy?

-Snack: dried apricots, a smear of honey goat cheese topped with almonds

-Vacuum: Shark Lift away. I couldn't push the old one on the new carpet, but this new one is awesome.

- Show: Teachers.  It's raunchy and funny and clever and mindless all in one.

Re: Current obsessions

  • Magazine: I'm currently obsessed with Cooking Light magazine. Like seriously obsessed. Almost everything I've cooked in the last few weeks has come straight from or been inspired by a recipe in that magazine. I LOVE to cook, and I like the magazine because it's challenging my cooking skills and teaching me new techniques/flavors to experiment with while incorporating lots of veggies. I got the subscription for free, but I will most definitely be paying to renew it.

Show: Bates Motel. I binged watched the entire 3rd season last weekend, and I'm sad that now I have to watch it episode by episode with live TV now.

Cleaner: All of the Method cleaners. The scents smell so good and the cleaners actually work. I buy their hand soap and dish soap too.

  • Snack - I've been trying to lose weight, trying to avoid sweets.  I have become obsessed with honey crisp apples, and I also cut a head of lettuce in quarters and just eat it like that.  The crispy things seem to satisfy me enough to avoid candy.

I LOVE my shark.  My old one killed my chest, doing things with that motion hurt ever since my open heart surgery.  This vacuum is the best on dog hair and its so easy to use!

I also got a fake fitbit / misfit, lol.  I check it every few minutes, lol.  It has also confirmed what I already knew about my lack of sleep!
  • Well, I'm obsessing over towels but that is not making me happy. I'm probably losing hair.

Anyway, my obsessions lately have been house-related. Duvet covers, new couches, shower curtains.

I'm looking forward to cooking new recipes and trying new things in the kitchen now that I have an actual functional kitchen. I might try that cooking light magazine that @thefanciestbeckler uses - thanks!

  • Makeup:  I got my free gift from Sephora for my birthday.  It was a NARS lipstick pencil in Cruella.  And it's my perfect shade of red.  FINALLY.  I adore it and plan my outfits/makeup around it right now.

House of Cards/Better Call Saul:  finished both of them.  I'm debating on how to get Better Call Saul season 2 (legally or illegally) and I'm irritated that I have to wait a whole 'nother year for HoC.
  • @ShesSoCold you should! They have a good balance between easy weeknight go-to kind of meals and more difficult, time consuming meals.

  • Besides coming here?  :)

Supernatural, buying dog toys, all things retro ('40s through '90s), browsing on Etsy and Craigslist, WatchMojo.com Top 10s.
  • I'm glad for the "current" modifier.

Bacon.  I made loaded baked potato casserole two nights ago, and I wish I had more leftovers.  I wish it wouldn't kill me to eat bacon all the time:(

Hamilton the musical.  I listened to it on the way down to the Outer Banks and it's amazing.  And now I want to reread the Federalist Papers.

@thefanciestbeckler, I'll have to check out Cooking Light, I'd been considering getting a cooking magazine.  DH can get magazines free with Coke rewards points.

@OurWildKingdom, I need to catch up on Supernatural, I'm so behind:(

    It's OK, so am I.  :D
  • TV:  We're political junkies, so admittedly if you eavesdropped on us, you'd laugh at our pretend punditry (although I have on occasion made a prediction before the TV people did!)  We also started watching Race to the White House on CNN.  It's a docu-series reenacting some of the major contests throughout history.  This quenches our thirst when the current characters get on our nerves.

Also, Survivor:  I hate everyone when each season begins but slowly pick favorites.  Right now it's Tai and Cydney.

Food:  I make these no bake energy balls and it's sooo hard not to eat more than 1!

Makeup:  I'm obsessed with trying every foundation possible to find the perfect combination of full coverage + oil control + long lasting.  Next up, Bare Minerals thanks to an Ulta coupon.  This habit may be more expensive than smoking was!

@kimmiinthemitten, those no-bake energy balls sound yummy!

They are seriously delish.  And messy to make.  After I mix the ingredients together, I refrigerate them for an hour before balling them up.  It still takes forever to wash my hands, but once they're done they're easy to store and eat.

  • There's something beyond weddings to be obsessed with?

I just finished Glee. I started it like 4 years ago, and forgot about it. I binge watched all the seasons in about 2 weeks. No shame. So now i'm constantly looking for Becky gifs and dying. Seriously. She made that show hilarious. Amazing actress.

Also obsessing over the honeymoon cruise. I'm not exactly trying to be cheap, but I also know they try to rope you into crazy expenses, so I've been researching the shore excursions. For instance, I really want to do a dolphin swim/meet and greet session and RCI charges almost $300. The location that is offering the package is doing so at $100 a person instead. For the same thing. At the same time. >.>

My son has anxiety and PTSD, so I've been doing a lot of research into therapy dogs as well. I hear they are very beneficial, especially for his age. Maybe we will adopt when we get back from the cruise. Hmm.

    Edited because I fail.

I've tried a lot of the Bare Minerals stuff.  I have ended up back with just the loose powder foundation.

I felt the the "Ready" foundation was too heavy and made me look a little bit like I was wearing a mask.

The BareSkin was lighter coverage, but not enough for me.  Also, you put it on with a brush and I could see the brush strokes when I looked at my nose...and when I tried to rub it in, I felt like I was rubbing it off.

With the powder, I feel like I can control the coverage.  With primer, it lasts all day.  You can get it in original and matte.  It's never made me look shiny/oily.

I hope this helps you decide!

Ditto that. I am desperate at this point. My other problem is finding something that stands up to harsh lighting, since I sit under fluorescent lights all day at work.

I have oily-ass skin and I just tried the Clinique acne stuff liquid foundation. I think I really like it. It didn't take much to get good coverage and it felt really light and like I wasn't wearing much.

Also, I was surprised to find that I liked the Almay acne or oily or whatever liquid foundation. I forgot my bareminerals when I was out of town for a DW and panicked and went to the Walgreens and grabbed it. I really like it.

  • @ShesSoCold Do you use primer as well, or just foundation?

I do use primer. I'm currently using an oily skin primer from Neutrogena. I don't dislike it but it's not the best ever. I really really liked this Loreal stuff that came in a little pot and was thick as hell but I think it made me break out so I stopped using it. But it was FANTASTIC for longevity and keeping the oily away. I think it was "magic perfecting base" after googling it.

  • I have oily skin as well.  I use the Clinique acne body soap and toner for my face.  I rarely use a moisturizer except in the depths of winter and I just resign myself to getting a pimple from it. Then, I use the Neutrogena combination moisturizer.  Bitter note here: Oil of Olay had made a perfect moisturizer that was anti aging and oil free, but stopped making it b/c eff oily skinned women who don't want wrinkles (they think we don't get any, my eye wrinkles disagree).

I use the Smashbox photofinish primer and the MakeUp Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation when I have the monies.  I have tried the Revlon drugstore knockoffs.  The primer took a bit to get used to, but I like it now.  The foundation I don't care for, but it does in a pinch.  They didn't have as many colors as MUF and the closest one to my shade is just a tad too dark.  Both of them stay matte and fresh looking nearly all day.  If I find myself going out for a really late night, past 10 p.m., I might use some blotting papers, powder, or just redo my face, but for regular day/evening wear, it's fine.
