Intro...ish?

Hey guys!

I thought I'd finally come out of the woodwork and hopefully start participating more on the NEY board... I hope you guys don't mind an OMH joining the fray?

I've posted in the stitch fix thread a couple of times, but I mostly hang around chit chat, etiquette, etc... but there's so much traffic and fun going on here I find myself lurking more and more. Work is dull right now and I could really use some fun conversation and new friends.

A bit about me: H and I got married last May... We live in Boston where I work in HR and H is about a year away from earning his PhD. We have an awesome cat named Cooper and I am impatiently waiting to buy a house. I hate hamburgers and love mac and cheese... I occasionally go to barre and spin classes and am currently training for half marathon - H and I have made a point to eat healthier this year and so far we are doing ok, though I'm always up for some new healthy, yummy recipes.

Looking forward to jumping in the conversation- you guys seem like an awesome, supportive group of people!

Re: Intro...ish?

  • Hi @PamBeesly524! Welcome to NEY from a fellow Bostonian! (Well sort of, I live on the south shore.)

What's the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?
    What's your favorite Friends moment?
    Picture of Cooper?
    friends tv show funy
  • Good morning and welcome to the fun!!  Once I'm done being KU and back into exercising, I definitely want to try barre and a local version of spin called MoxieRide.  Good luck on your half!
  • Welcome! That's so awesome you're training for a half....I just ran my longest race for a 15k....my next goal would be a half but I don't have a ton of time to train with a baby but hopefully in the next year or so it will be more likely.

What's the coolest race you have run so far?

Do you like specialty mac n cheese? What's your favorite cheese?
  • @southernpeach89 I've only done a couple of halfs, but I ran a Color Run once which was really fun! I'm pretty open to all mac and cheeses... I tend to add bacon or shrimp when I make it at home, but I love when different cheeses are used and I especially love scallops in it.

@CocoBellaF Thanks! You could totally do a half - I'm a firm believer that once you start running longer mileage, what's a couple more? :)

  • Do you have a Boston or New England accent?
Have you ever made a pinterest fail?
If you had a $1,000 what would you do with it right now?
What's your favorite jewelry (bonus for pictures)?

  • Hey! Worcester lady here. I can't believe you don't like burgers...I've been begging H to go to Wahlburgers- hopefully I'll make it there this spring! Um Cooper and his bow are fabulous!

House hunt is brutal right now. My friends are looking out that way and things in Arlington and Newton are going for $25-50k over asking!

How did you & H meet?

Salsa or Guac? Ketchup or Mayo?

    image

  • @jenna8984 How do you like Worcester? I'm not super familiar with all of the areas around Boston which makes house hunting a little difficult, not knowing where to look at all. I'm totally jumping the gun because we want to wait until H is done with his PhD before we buy anything, but I'm still constantly looking! We live right around the corner from Newton... Dream location but there's no way we could afford it!

H and I met at college through mutual friends... I threw a party at my house on campus for my roommate's birthday and my dirt-bag boyfriend at the time was visiting, but asleep in my room because "he didn't feel well". My friend who wanted us to get together FOREVER brought him over and we talked all night... I got his phone # and found out he lived two doors down from me. We texted back and forth every now and then, but only things like "Are you going to X bar tonight?"... Nothing happened until I ditched my bf and he helped me through that awful, stalkerish time.

Also I'm a guac FIEND, so definitely guac... and neither ketchup nor mayo - i hate condiments!

Welcome to NEY! @southernpeach89 beat me to all the running related questions!! Also, your cat is super adorable! I love his little bow tie! Is he a sweet kitty? An evil kitty? A mix of both?

Where did you and your H go on your HM?

    Biggest wedding ragret?

re: Healthy eating - you should definitely check out Skinnytaste! I don't think I've had a "fail" recipe from her blog yet! Everything has been delicious!

What is your H getting his PhD in?

  • @TwoDimes Both shows I could (and do) watch over, and over, and over.

If I could go anywhere I would go to Australia and New Zealand for like, a month and explore all over. I've wanted to go my whole life and I just think it would be incredible.

I have had lots of cooking fails! None of them have been super memorable or exciting though, just bad food.

We probably won't buy for another year or two, but I really just want space. Our apartment and especially our kitchen is cramped right now - no counter space! I wanted big open counters for cooking and baking, and a washer and dryer ALL TO MYSELF. I also want outdoor space really, really badly - growing up in NH i had a huge yard and now I have nada. Proximity to running/biking trails would be ideal too.
  • @labro Thanks! He's generally a good cat - super snuggly but he has his moments.. Usually at 3am. He's incredibly needy, so if we go away for a night or two he's absolutely insufferable when we get back with needing attention. Sometimes I wish he was a typical cat who liked to be left alone! He's rarely in a different room than us, it's hilarious.

H and I went to Jamaica! It was pretty nice... We did Sandals so it was nice to have everything already covered and not have to worry about it.

NO RAGRETS! But really, I really loved our wedding.. I think my one regret is that we didn't do full open bar - we just did beer and wine (I work for a beer company and got free beer for the wedding, so it saved us a ton of money). It was totally fine and as far as I know nobody missed the liquor, but looking back I kinda wish we had just made room in the budget to cover the extra expense.

I've gotten some recipes from Skinnytaste! They all seem to be really good.

And H is getting his PhD in math... way over my head... I can barely calculate tip at the end of a meal.
  • Hi there!  I also love spin class...though at 28 weeks pregnant it is getting a little hard to keep up.  ;)  Still trying.  Cooper is adorable.

-If you could go back in time and change one day in your life you've already lived, what day would you change and why?

-If you could go forward in time and get a preview of one day in your life you expect to live, what would you like to see?
  • Nice! I live in a small town of only 10,000 people adjacent to Worcester so I love it. I love small town, big yards, woods, ponds. I can't imagine ever living the cramped city life. Of course I would never suggest you come out here if you planned to work in Boston- that is commuting hell of 1.5-2 hours. My personal priority is to make less out here and walk in my house at 5:30 every day. You'd probably like areas like Woburn & Burlington. Still expensive but not as bad as Newton and more small town feel.

Aw I like how you met. And I'd be so sad without mayo hahah

  • Hello there!

Omg, Cooper in his bow tie!

What's your (alcoholic) drink of choice?
Last movie you saw in the theater?
    Next vacation you're taking?
How do you feel about Harry Potter?
Are you reading anything good right now?

  • @PamBeesly524 BF works for a beer company too! Free beer is pretty friggen sweet, wonder if we could work that down the road. Hmm... LOL

@PamBeesly524 Mayo is the devil so we can be friends. How do you feel about....vegetables? SOME people on this board don't like them and it's shocking to me.

I had a work lunch yesterday because a co-worker was in town. She told us about her cat (a calico colored Persian!!!). Apparently they cannot leave their suitcases out when they are leaving to travel because the cat will deliberately piss on them! She usually also exacts some sort of revenge when they get back. So you definitely don't have the only needy cat in the world!

  • @minskat30 OMG spinning at 28 weeks! It's hard enough for me now let alone having to drag along a little human with me too! You're amazing.

-If I could change a day... Wow, great question. I feel like there are a lot of days I would change! I think I would probably change the day that I first met H's parents... I was drunk and had to go out to dinner with them (stupid, bad college decisions to day drink! haha)... Makes for a funny story now, and they actually had no idea that I was drunk but now that we're married I kind of wish I had been on my A game that night.

-If I could preview a day I would preview the day that my first child was born (I plan on having kids but I guess who knows!).. Or maybe a few months down the line to see how things are going with said baby?
  • Hello there!

Tell me more about your hatred for hamburgers. Do you eat steak, other red meat?

Favorite Stitch Fix item you've received?

Favorite/least favorite thing about your job.

    Daisypath Anniversary tickers

  • @beachyone15 I've honestly just never liked them... and I don't eat other red meat. When I was young I was a terribly picky eater - I feel so bad for my mom, she basically had to feed me chicken nuggets. I've started eating more and more as I get older, but I still can't get on board with red meat. Just not a fan!

I got this great shirt from Stitch Fix that I wear pretty often, it's navy blue and has lace 3/4 sleeves.. I get a lot of use out of it! I also have a sleeveless polka dot shirt from there too that I like, which is weird because i usually don't like polka dots.

Favorite thing: Our company has amazing culture, so the people that I work with here are so cool. It's always really laid back and casual, which fits my personality.
Least favorite thing: we are absolutely slammed and short staffed right now (Althought I'm still knotting...) so I'm doing 2.5-3 jobs. I got promoted in September and haven't fully been able to learn and do my job because of this, which is frustrating because I think I would really love my job otherwise!

  • @PamBeesly524 - We are booze twins, it seems! I loooove beer. I went to WWoHP with H a few years ago (pre-Diagon Alley). I'm dying to go back, you'll love it! I liked Amy Poehler's book but didn't love it.

  • @labro I do like veggies! But I also tend to feel for people who don't like things that most people like, because I've spent most of my life being scoffed at for not liking hamburgers, mayo, you name it. I used to say to people "It's not like I'm CHOOSING to not like X, trust me if I could like X it would make it a lot easier ordering at restaurants!" or whatever.

And thank god my cat doesn't piss on our stuff... I don't know what I would do with him if he did. so gross.
  • @PamBeesly524 – Welcome! I’m glad you’re sticking around, and I like your answers so far! Cooper is adorable!

    Do you like musicals?

What movie do you think you’ve seen the most times?

Do you like any weird food combinations?

If you could meet a celebrity (who is currently alive) who would it be?

  • Thanks @AlPacina!

I do like musicals... I haven't seen too many but in the past year I was lucky enough to see both Book of Mormon and Aladdin - both great shows!

I've seen Stepbrothers 1,000 times.. But when I was younger I also used to have Zoolander, Superstar and Fast and Furious on rotation... Random movies but still classics!

I can't think of any weird food combinations.. I'm pretty picky so usually the blander the better although I'm branching out!

I think I'd want to meet Steve Carrell.. He seems down to earth and hilarious and also I'm a huge fan of The Office (Met the guy who plays Dwight last year!).. Runners up would be Tina Fey or Amy Poehler.

OMG yes! I used to watch this movie ALL THE FREAKING TIME!

I watched a show with Irish step dancing in it last night too, and I didn't even think of the tragic accident with her parents! It's obviously been too long.
