Wedding Woes

Wednesday

Halfway point of the week and DH's business trip. I'm ready to tap out on this week in general.

1) One of DefConn's teachers told me that they were doing leprechaun traps in class.  That was false.   Thank goodness I had construction paper and a shoebox.  We (I) made one...it's ugly, but it's done.   I suck at crafts.

2) The kiddo spent $30 on school lunch in a week.  How? I don't think I want to know.  But since he blew his wad and has no cash of his own, I'm making him pack his lunch.  I should be dead from the death stares.

At least my parents are feeding us dinner tomorrow and my sister will be there too.
Random:

Trader Joe's yogurt is the shit, as are their sour gummies.

I bought a pair of trail shoes from the Nike outlet last year and forgot about them.  I found them in the closet and started wearing them.  The best $12 I've ever spent on shoes.

Weirdly, with DH not being here...My house is staying pretty clean.  I've been about 25 min away from being 'guest ready' so far this week (that is my gauge on how clean my house is...How long will it take for me not to be embarrassed if guests are to come over?)

Re: Wednesday

  • We had a nasty storm last night that made it hard to sleep.  At least it wasn't the tornado that hit 30 miles away.

I'm looking forward to next week - spring break.  A teacher friend and I are taking my kids to lunch and a movie on Tuesday and then they are going to spend the night with the ILs for a couple nights.
  • My sore throat is back.  I ended antibiotics for strep on Sunday.  I'm headed back to the Dr. today.  I don't have fever, aches or headache but something's not right.  I need to get this cleared up for my work trip/girls weekend in 2 weeks!

  • NOOOOOOO @MNNEBride!  :( I hope you feel better soon.
  • @mrs.conn23 that is exactly how I just how clean my house it too. I also find that when FH is out of town the house stays cleaner.

That being said, he arrived home on Monday night and now the house is trashed.
  • Well, the cat mystery is solved.  It is a ...... BOY.  Apparently if it had been a girl it would have been very rare, since its an orange cat.  I never knew that but googled after the vet told us.  He is pretty loopey and still giving me the evil eye.  He smells like cat pee, which google also told me is normal since they wet themselves while out of it.  I can't let him get wet for a week, so I tried wipes dipped in vinegar (also from google) and it didn't really help at all.

M2 looked at me last night and said "This was the best day ever!" Then she jumped into my arms.  Totally worth it.

I've got a bunch of crap today.  I need to make up folding our laundry (I usually do it Tuesday), do some crafty crap for class tonight (these kids don't know anything they are supposed to), work, and M2's 5 year appoint.  My carpool person is out of town so I'm carting kids both ways tonight.  It kills a good 45 minutes of time.

That's really interesting. I grew up with an orange, long-haired, female cat. She popped out two litters of kittens before we had her fixed. Who knew!

I need to really clean the floors in my house. The wood floors in our rental house were never ever white sock clean and that drove me NUTS. I refuse to own a home with the same problem. So tonight/tomorrow night I'm hoping to clean the shit out of the floors so I just have to run the steam mop over them every few days to keep it up going forward. H will likely be no help because he doesn't see the point in scrubbing on hands and knees when we have a Swiffer so he'll half-ass it if I ask him to help.

I really want one of those Dyson cordless hard floor vacuums but H can't justify spending like $500 on a vacuum only for part of the house and I can't disagree with him. It would just be so much easier than dicking around with the Swiffer vac thing that doesn't pick much up.

ETA: Today is St. Urho's Tay. St. Urho is a made up Finnish guy that someone in MN thought up (I think) because there was no Finnish holidays or anything like that. I have this kids' book and today makes me miss my mom and grandma.

  • I have to finish updating a database tonight that I should've done last night, but took a bath and read in bed instead.  I'm going grocery shopping tonight for a badly needed grocery trip.

If you can wait until Black Friday for one, Target or Amazon normally has an awesome deal on them. My mom got one for like $175 and I think she uses about 3 times a week just around the tile and carpet and of course when things are spilled.

I've got 2 meetings at work today, getting the oil changed in my car and Bunco tonight. Busy, busy day.

FI's ear infection is getting better. He had a tooth pulled yesterday. I asked him if he was liking the pain, he said no, so I said stop complaining. I can't wait for him to get better. I've realized I don't have that maternal "oh poor baby is sick" thought process when it comes to him. And since I don't have children yet, that is still to be determined when it comes to them.

I can't wait for tomorrow. Corned beef, cabbage, red potatoes, carrots and rye bread! One of my favorite meals.

Random: I bought a 22 piece makeup brush set from IPSY for $25. I used it this morning, I'm in love! It retails for $60 I think, so I thought it was a good by.

I hate to be that person, but your vet is confused.  Calico and tortoiseshell coloration are X-linked in cats--you need two X's, so very nearly all calico/tortie cats are female.  (The only exceptions are the XXY males, which are about as rare in cats as they are in humans.)  But orange tabbies can be male or female.

I do too, and since we have a cleaning lady we rarely vacuum--usually just if one of the cats/kids tips over a plant and spills potting soil, or someone empties a bag of Cheez-Its on the pantry floor and then walks through them repeatedly ::cough:: DS ::cough::.  So I am having an extra-hard time justifying it.  But I want one.

I'm trying to think of what to give my grandmother for her 100th birthday later this year.  She lives with my aunt and uncle, so she's pretty well full-up on household stuff.  I was thinking maybe a digital frame pre-loaded with photos of with her family (from childhood up to her with her great-grandkids), so she can just plug-n-play.  But I would have to scan the older photos from my mom, which will be kind of a PITA.  ("Don't lose them!" "Are you sure she'll like that?"  "She won't know what to do with a digital frame!")

I could do a photo book, so basically an analog version of the digital frame, but then I still have to get my hands on the photos and scan them.  And then I kind of feel like I should include my aunt's whole side of the family, and then it becomes a much bigger project than I feel like taking on.

She likes word puzzles, and we often send those for birthdays/holidays, but I feel like that's not 100th-y enough.  Pajamagram?  Because who doesn't love nice pjs.  But I also worry that it's old-ladyish, as if she's bedridden or something.  Giant-ass box of Fannie Mays?  (Her favorites.)  I thought about handmade kid gifts, like pottery, but she doesn't really need any trays or mugs or anything, crudely painted or otherwise.

    Jewelry???
  • I can't link, but I think the website I looked at last night agreed with the vet that less than 20% are female, another site said less than 10%.  I didn't really care either way, when we decided to keep it we knew we would get it fixed.  It was just a kitty that needed a home, and we have always had cats and didn't so it was good timing.
  • Is it a full moon? Or is my husband sick?

He just called to tell me that he needs to work overnight tonight, so he's on his way home (he was working this morning). He said he's not tired so he's going to "scrub the ass out of the bathroom floors". He said he was going to scrub them with a sponge, without me asking.

I don't know if I should be concerned or excited.

~20% is the number I've heard, as well.  I may have misunderstood--when I read "very rare" to me that =/= 20%, but I may have misinterpreted.

We had a cat who we initially thought was a girl.  Nope!  He was awesome, either way.  Either way, your orange cat looks like he lucked into a good thing.

Don't question it. Just go with it.
