Bra Troubles

So I got my dress and it has a sweetheart neckline with illusion lace that takes it up to a bateau neckline.  It has boning and cups sewn in but it doesn't offer enough support (I'm a 34DDD).  The back isn't super low, but it still switches to the illusion lace a couple inches below where my normal bra's band goes around my back.  Any bustier girls out there have any suggestions for what I can do to get the support I need?  Would a bra with a clear back and clear straps show through the lace?  Anyone know of a supportive low back strapless bra?

Re: Bra Troubles

  • There are some long-line strapless bras that have low backs that might be worth checking into.  Without a pic it's harder to make a recommendation.  Has your bridal shop you purchased the dress from given you any suggestions?

  • The bridal shop thought the boning and sewn in cups would be sufficient, but it ended up not being enough.  Most strapless bras don't do anything for me, but maybe there's something out there for me.  Unfortunately most stores don't carry my size, so I have to order online, but I don't want to waste my money on something that doesn't work well.  I'll look into the long-line strapless bras though, thanks for the suggestion!
  • A strapless long line bra will give more support than a regular strapless bra. I am a 38G and I'm wearing a Dominique Longline Lace Torsolette. I bought it before I got my dress and wore it the day I found my dress. It fit comfortably and gave the type of support I was looking for.

  • I ordered literally 10-15 strapless long-line bras to try on, and took the 3-4 that fit with me to a fitting to see how they worked under the dress. The "winner" ended up needing the back folded down a bit because it still showed, and the cups trimmed so they didn't show at all, and the whole thing was also sewn/tacked into my dress. The girls weren't going anywhere!

I returned all the bras I didn't keep. Most places let you return easily--I've shopped from herrroom.com, barnecessities.com, and norstrom.com.
  • Strange that the cups and the boning weren't enough for you.  My dress sounds very similar to yours, only mine also had a plunging v with lace/illusion over it... so no way to do a bra at all. I felt completely supported with the bra cups sewn in, I'm a 36DDD.  Has the rest of the dress been fitted properly or are you going based off of the first fitting before they've really had a chance to make the finer adjustments?

  • Thanks for all of your replies ladies!  The dress has been fitted properly, so I'm looking into a long-line strapless bra.  Thank you for the recommendations on brands and websites.
  • I have a similar problem, I'm a 34D. My seamstress is sewing a strapless bra into my dress, I haven't gotten to try it out yet, but that's a possibility for you
  • I may have missed someone suggesting it, but you could try a bra extender? I've worn these with low backed outfits and it worked great. They aren't expensive and some bra stores have them available to try on with a bra if you want to try out the support. I know specifically Victoria's Secret normally has them.
  • @KnotRiley, I think we have a vendor.

What does that mean? Sorry, I'm still kind of new to this.
