Monday

How was the weekend?

Ours ended up being pretty great.  DH called on the way home from his trip because our friends were in town and wanted to hook up.  So mad dash to clean and get food/alcohol and we had a nice little party.  Everyone brought their kids and they all got along great.  Yesterday, I went to Target and got all my Easter/bday present shopping done.  I also got all the baskets/bags put together and presents wrapped.

Re: Monday

  • Saturday night I went to a movie premier for The Bridge, a Karen Kingsbury book made into a movie.  I met Faith Ford and Ted McGinley, they were both so nice, and spent a lot of time just talking to everybody.  I know not everybody here likes Christian books, but Karen's really are great if you do like those type and haven't tried any of hers.

Sunday we colored eggs with the family after church, and had a mini egg hunt since oldest DD and her kids will be out of town next weekend.
  • The weekend was pretty good here.

The weather went from 75 and sunny last week to cold and cloudy this weekend. Of course that's when the heat decides to break, and DH is 1000 miles away.

Other than the heat breaking, things were uneventful at my house this weekend.

  • We had our first get together at our house Saturday and it went really well. Yesterday I cleaned, napped and grocery shopped. It was a good weekend.

  • My weekend was pretty nice. FI was on call so we just hung around the house in case he got called out. But it was HOT yesterday. I'm not ready for it. I think it got up to 92. I had to turn the A/C on yesterday and last night. It supposed to be 91 today before dropping to 78 tomorrow. Weird weather for March here. But it will be 110+ here no time.

  • Weekend was pretty good.  Friday night we watched nephew in sectionals for wrestling.  He moved on to State, so that's great.

Saturday we hung out, cleaned, watched some stuff on the dvr and then met my family to celebrate brother's birthday.  We tried a new restaurant, which was really good.  We'll definitely go back.

Sunday I went to church and then tackled a mountain of laundry.  It felt good to finally get caught up on that!

DH is hurting and has a back injection scheduled, but not until April 14th.  (he has spinal stenosis and gets an injection about once a year) He called again this morning but there is no earlier appointment.  He did get put on a cancellation list, so hopefully he'll get in sooner.

  • It was a good weekend.  Turns out all four of us are off Friday/Monday, so we are looking at daytrips and other fun outings.  It will mean that we fall behind on housework, but oh well.

I am cheating on Harris Teeter with Publix, and considering breaking up.  I really feel like their product selection/availability has decreased markedly since Kroger bought them, and their customer service right along with it.  So we ventured to Publix yesterday and really liked them.  The only catch is that HT has online ordering/drive-up pickup, and Publix does not, plus there are about 3 Harris Teeters closer to me than the nearest Publix.

Looking forward to Easter.  I was trying to explain to DS about the Easter bunny, and he seemed to think it was the same bunny as on his clock that tells him when he can get up.  He is doing the whole toddler 50% adorable/50% monster thing now.  He'll throw a grand mal tantrum when you bring him the red shoes he asked for because he suddenly wants the blue, but when he told me he was a dinosaur and I said that made me his dinosaur mom, he smiled and said "You no dinosaur, you're a girl-mom!" <3

Poor Wooz had a bumpy weekend.  She got to ride a new horse for the first time Saturday, and he didn't listen worth a crap:  followed the other horses around, wouldn't stay on the rail, etc.  And really, that's part of it:  she has to learn to be authoritative with different horses and make them follow commands.  She got frustrated and basically gave up toward the end.  Not a great session.  Then she had her swim eval yesterday and her instructor said that she's mastered everything except butterfly (she finally got the hang of breaststroke, w00t!).  DH and I heard "Good job, making progress" and DD heard "Your butterfly isn't good enough."  (She has DH's perfectionism.)  But she was on the fence about swim team for a while and just decided she definitely wants to do it again this season, so that's good.  I know I'm her mom, but I really think her backstroke is vicious.  :)

And in closing:  FOUR DAY WEEK!

I used to swim and in Wooz' defense, butterfly is hard as shit. I hated that stroke. At meets, I swam the events that were all four strokes (IM? I think it was called) and I always dreaded butterfly because there's no "jog" pace for it (at least with me), it was all sprint. Like 25 M of that and I was exhausted.

Right?  Just watching her makes me exhausted.  I can't swim butterfly, period.
  • My MIL is coming this weekend. Which in and of itself sucks, but I'm already annoyed at her.

Most of the things she does, she does only so people will tell her how wonderful she is. Her friend in this area invited her over for dinner, so she told her friend she'd make a side dish and app. Except she needs to use my kitchen and my shit to do it. Last time she did this, she beat the shit out of my stock pot (used the hand mixer in it) and broke the tip off a $300 knife. When she called me, she worded it all backwards, like "I told Sally I'd make X and Y since it would go well with Z. I hope you don't mind me using your kitchen". How else can I respond to that? But then she called me to ask if it was okay if they bring a coffee maker. SMH. And she's coming on a Friday which means H has to take Saturday off work, which means less OT money.

I hate saying anything because H and MIL are really trying to have a good relationship again. I'm a huge grudge-holder by nature and MIL did some horrible things to H and I so I'm having a hard time warming up to her. But I'm trying because H wants us to. I'd be pissed if H didn't want my mom around so I'm trying to get over it.

  • @ShesSoCold, I feel your pain re: difficult IL's.  I wish you lots of tongue biting superpowers and tequila (or your drink of choice, but if you need one...my friend turned me on to coconut tequila, limeade, and lime sparkling water...a few of those and you won't care).  ;)

    That sounds delightful!

My only problem is that a few drinks in, and I start saying shit I shouldn't. And I have a friend's birthday party at noon that Saturday so I'll be a few drinks in my that evening anyway. Oh well, she's going to find something I did that will piss her off, so I might as well make it count! :)

    Thanks!

  • H and I went to an adoption info session last night.   I'm really nervous about the home study part and the fact that we'll most likely have to foster-to-adopt.  But, overall I'm excited.   We are going through the same agency my parents used when they adopted my brother, which is really cool
