Illusion Neckline Bodysuit

I need some help! I have a strapless dress, but I really do NOT want it to be strapless. This is my second engagement, the dress is from my first engagement which ended very horribly. I cannot afford to buy a different dress. I am looking for something like this to add to my dress...

I went and tried on that illusion neckline leotard, but it was $350.00 which I cannot afford. Does anyone have any other ideas where I can buy a cheaper one? I'm willing to buy a used one too. Thanks so much for your help!

Re: Illusion Neckline Bodysuit

  • I replied to your post in Budget Weddings.  :)
  • Do you really want to deal with an added bodysuit when you innevitably have to pee? Those things were a pain in the 90's on a normal day with just pants on...Dealing with that PLUS a dress?? Maybe you can find a seamstress who can add something similar onto your existing dress for cheaper??

  • I also replied in the Budget post - IMO - spend the money on a new dress instead of alterations.  There are TONS of dress options out there that come in white that are not going to break your budget.  The old dress can be sold and you can even use that money towards your dress/wedding budget once its sold.  David's has their $99 dress sale going on (you may find dresses for less on their website) and there are many sites online you can look at as well.  With this being Prom season - you can find many dresses in white that will get the job done.  Nothing says you have to spend a small fortune on a new dress, it's just going to be cheaper to find a different dress than it will be to add something to make a dress you already don't like as it is manageable for the day.  The dress sets the tone - if you don't like it now, adding a body suit isn't going to wave a magic wand and fix that, will it make it tolerable if you do not want strapless, yes, but the little voice that doesn't like the dress now is going to be looking at it in wedding pictures for years to come at how wonderful your Groom looks and BLECK! I hated that dress! - just saying - hindsight sucks!
  • Can you have straps added to the dress?  I did not want a strapless dress, but it was what I fell in love with and purchased extra material.  The seamstress made me two straps.  The straps were $100 and the material was $40.  I used the seamstress at the bridal salon, so if you go to a private one, it will probably be cheaper.
  • I agree that adding straps (even straps made of out a beaded/rhinestone material, like a necklace, to get to the same look as the bodysuit you posted), or using a "topper" would be much, much cheaper and more comfortable than the bodysuits! Does the dress need any other alterations, like a hem? If so, you may already have some fabric you could work with to add straps.

But really, I'd think you could buy a long strand of rhinestones for pretty cheap somewhere (https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=rhinestone+trim&tbm=shop), to use to add straps and also create a necklace, for about 10x cheaper than that bodysuit!
  • The bridal shop where DD bought her dress had straps that could be added to strapless dresses. DD didn't want a strapless so everytime she tried one on they would clip sample straps to the dress. They said it wouldn't be very expensive to add them - less than $100.

  • Those straps are available from JoAnn's or Hancock Fabrics for around $10 - you can sew them in yourself with a needle and thread the day-of if necessary...  $100 for something you can DIY for less than $15 is something to keep in mind...

DD ended up finding a gown with an illusion neckline that she loved. I would've loved to know about the straps at JoAnn's/Hancock if she had gone that route though!
