Feeding the photographer

I am having a small informal wedding at my parents house. 24 people including me and my FI. We have a photographer who isn't part of a company. It's just her side job. The contract doesn't say anything about providing a meal and she will be doing photos from 3pm-6 or 7pm.

From reading around I've seen that venues offer a meal for the photographers (tho it is not as nice as the wedding food). We are catering.

Do I order extra for her to be able to eat? Or can she bring her own food? And where would I put her and her assistant ? There isn't room at the tables and I think it would be a little strange to make her eat outside/in her car or in a bedroom.

But I also think it would be rude to expect her not to eat when this is during dinner time.

I haven't discussed this with her yet because I want some feedback on what's appropriate. I don't want to be a rude customer.

Re: Feeding the photographer

  • I would include her in your meal counts if she is there while guests are eating. Most people won't want to be photographed while eating so this is a perfect time for the photographer to eat. I'd try and find someway to include photographer in tables with guests as I would feel weird eating all by myself when others were together. You could also ask the photographer where they would like to eat.
  • Talk to her! With a 3 hour gig, she might say no thanks, but talk to her with the assumption that she'll eat and have some time to get off her feet while the guests eat. Have a couple ideas to present to her that make sense based on where you have room: living room, kitchen, bedroom if necessary, etc. Just make sure you have a table and chairs for them
  • There's just enough room in the back room where the tables are for the 24 people. We literally wouldn't be able to fit her and her assistant :/ I'm already struggling with where my pastor and his wife are going. The refreshments and food will be set up on our kitchen island and dining table :(

there is an office I suppose I could set them up in. There's really only three rooms in the house. (The living room/sitting area/kitchen are an open floor plan. Then the office/bedroom. Then the backroom with an indoor pool- which is why it's hard to fit more tables in. We can't move the pool obviously lol)
The office would shut her out tho.

I will order extra food from the caterer.

i initially wasn't planning for her because I wasn't planning on a photographer. But a family member offered to pay for one and I never thought about the food thing :(
