Sorry I've been really MIA lately.       One reason it I had to take on more responsibilities at work.  Then boss man's son broke his ankle, giving me more work.  Then we had my nephew for a week, went hiking OOT.

However, the biggest reason is the club is closed for April and part of May.   Meaning my needy DH is ALWAYS AROUND, cutting into my knot time.   I swear we are all or nothing.   Either he works every night or not a all.

Big news.   DH is on a job interview.   He is being recruited to work at an even more exclusive club in CA.     I have to say i'm on the fence.  I really like it here, but this job sounds like a great opportunity. I've never lived in CA (actually never stepped foot in the state).   Why not add a 10th state to live in right? Or if you count US territories would be 11th.

ETA - @ShesSoCold  - I do not eat burritos.   Sorrynotsorry

Re: Hi strangers

  • I've been wondering about you, thanks for the update. Good luck to your DH and you on the interview if you decide it is a place you would like to go.  What area in CA?

  • I have been wondering about you lately, Lynda! I'm glad to hear an update.

Congrats to your DH on the job interview! I hope you guys are able to make a decision in regards to moving that works well for both of you :)

California can be wonderful. That area has a very high cost of living so be careful that whatever his salary is will truly cover expenses.
Taxes are more out there.  Housing is a little more expensive compared to where we live now, but not horrible.   The rest of the stuff seem to fall inline with where we live now.

We will not move for less than a certain amount and it's sounding like they are in the ballpark.

Now the interesting part.  The club here is losing people left and right.  Some quitting others being forced out because of the new GM.  The club is afraid to lose DH.  So...  DH is going to see if they will match what is offered in CA to get us to stay.

  • Welcome Back, @lyndausvi !  I missed you and was wondering where you'd been.  I'm very happy with the cashmere sweater I ended up ordering from LL Bean, btw :)

Exciting news about California.  Sounds like a great opportunity!  My brother lives in Carmel and loves it - I visited him there last fall.  It's absolutely beautiful and a very unique place.  My bro is totally into the scene there, but even though aspects of it could be interpreted as superficial  I got the impression that people are very friendly and open and feel strongly connected to their community, which is all positive.

Well we were close when we lived in Indianapolis.  We lived off Virginia Ave. near Fountain Square.

  • Welcome back! Sounds like a great opportunity for your H, but I get why you are on the fence. If you like where you are it'd be great if he was able to use it to leverage more $$ from his employer. I think I need to try to do this, but ugh the thought of interviews.

  • I've been wondering where you were!
Good luck to your H and with all the relevant decision-making!

Nice to hear from you! And Carmel is BEAUTIFUL... I grew up in the South Bay but went to college in Santa Cruz. Went to Carmel and Big Sur often. It definitely is not a bad place to live :)

My H is on a job interview today too! He got shafted at work and has been stuck on graveyard, on weekends, for two months. His interview today would be for a very similar job, but normal M-F schedule. It's been a couple of years since we worked the same schedule, and I am really hoping he gets it!

Smart move! When H got his current job, he went back to his then-employer to give his notice. They matched his salary, but H still ended up leaving because the benefits at the new place were better and there was more room for advancement.

It is funny, though, how sometimes it seems like people leave jobs in waves. My job has pretty high turnover, but every once in a while it seems like a dozen people quit in a one-week period. Part of me secretly likes when that happens, because I am not a fan of my work, so somehow it seems like people are sticking it to them :)

It's a smallish place (20-30 full time and another 150 seasonal.  Most of the middle-management and above and the people who have left have been here for years.  Some from the start which is 16 years!

The club members treat us like family. Ask about our families, dogs, etc.  Take us out to dinner, invite us to their house even on their private planes.    So when they lose someone who has worked for so long they are not happy.  When 6 of the 8 directors have left in less than a year.... well that is a problem.

Well we were close when we lived in Indianapolis.  We lived off Virginia Ave. near Fountain Square.
That area has really exploded recently with restaurants. Tons of apartments have gone up too. All this is thanks to the cultural trail that was built several years ago - don't know when you lived here. Welcome back though, been wondering where you had gotten off to. Good luck to your H with the interview and to both of you on decision making.
  • Welcome back. Transitions are always hard. I hope that it will be clear what is the best choice for the both of you.

We lived there 2 years ago.  I loved the cultural trail.  Was on it everyday.   We lived in one of the new apartments.

Have you been to Bluebeard restaurant?  We liked it there and it was just a few doors down.

Yes, I've been there for lunch several times. Dinner wait is to long for H! There is a new breakfast/lunch place across and down the street that has been getting rave reviews - Milktooth. I have been there once so far. It was written up in the NYT, I think and was on the Food Network. What restaurant did your H work in when you were here?

  • Welcome back! I wondered where you had been. I hope the job thing works out however you guys will be happiest. You have written many times about this GM at the club. Why do the powers that be not get rid of him? If he is causing so much turnover with long time employees it is surprising they haven't done something about that. I know that is easy to say from my little chair here but I hate management that comes in and cleans house like that.
  • Oh yeah, how are the dogs?

There's an HGTV show with a mother/daughter team renovating houses in Fountain Square. You might enjoy checking it out since you lived there

How did you like Milktooth? I've thought about going with friends because we occasionally meet for brunch on the weekend but it seems to fancy for me for breakfast. I'm more simple brunch foods than anything too creative

It was very good. My friend had the  lemon waffles and loved them. The menu isn't huge but offered a nice variety. We went during the week so avoided the crazy weekend crowds (again H doesn't like to wait forever at restaurants). I have heard that weekends are crazy!
