Wedding Woes

Monday!

How was the weekend?

Saturday they finished the landscaping and it's lovely.  6let had baseball.  Holy cow there are some whiny brats on his team.  One kid struck out twice and both teams went and cried at his mom's feet.  It's coach pitch and he gets 6 pitches.  MAYBE one pitch was bad the kid just can't swing!

Sunday we got up early and went to Crew Stadium for a little pickup soccer game.  Matthew was STOKED.  M2 was the littlest and the only girl.  She had fun, but her little legs were tired!

Sunday afternoon we got word that 6let made a club soccer team.  He wasn't even a B-list kid.  They said offers would go out at 2 and he had one at 2:03.  The whole thing is crazy, but it's kind of cool he made it.  I just paid a shitton of fees and turned in a crazy amount of paperwork.  Next week we have to go to the stadium and get FITTED for a uniform.  YIKES!!!  It's so wrong, but I hope Zane didn't make the team.  I sat next to his mom at tryouts and she was sooooooo annoying.

Re: Monday!

  • Yay for 6let!  That's awesome.

We spent the entire morning at Wooz's meet Saturday, because we let the kids stay and play in the indoor pool afterward for a while.  I felt so bad because then we got home and there was so much to do--every time Wooz asked me to play Uno or DS wanted to read a book I was like "Hang on," "Five minutes," etc.  Eventually I blew off the rest of my chores to hang out with the kids.

For those not on FB, Wooz won her heats in freestyle and backstroke.  We took her out to dinner to celebrate.  Waiting for the event results to see how she placed overall.

My new boss starts today.  DS stamped my arm with his Dory rubber stamp a bunch of times during Wooz's meet, and the stamps have faded but not disappeared.  I'm sure New Guy was like WTF?  Oh well.

Congrats to 6let @6fsn; do you have to travel far for games?

Weekend was good. A lot of work on the house but it's starting to come together. Finally joined a gym so I'm starting to get back into a routine.

H's parents came by to help with the house. I'm probably super ungrateful for saying this, but they called Saturday night at like 9:00 and said they were coming out Sunday morning. A little notice would have been great. I really do love them, but I've never spent a lot of one on one time with his mom so we don't know each other all at well. And it just feels weird asking her to help me clean and do projects on the house. Turned out fine we got a lot done, stuff I wasn't planning to do now but she could help me with. We had a really nice dinner after. Am I a terrible daughter in law for wishing they wouldn't spring that on us?
  • Morning.

I'm so ready for vacation. We leave Thursday night.  I have a half day on Thursday.  I need to clean out my car and start packing.

Weekend was good for the most part.  Saturday, DH and DefConn went to DH's cousin's graduation.  I had a hair appt and got running around done for the week and for vacation.  We just hung out Saturday night.  I went to bed rather early.

Yesterday, we had a 40th bday party for a family friend at a winery.  My parents drove me and DefConn down, so yay wine.  :D  The location is beautiful.  I had fun walking around and taking pics with DefConn.  The party was nice.

@charlotte989875 - there's nothing wrong with setting boundaries. it was nice of them to help, but yeah, 12 hours notice isn't enough IMHO.

    our weekend was somewhat productive.

Friday we got new AC units installed. it took all day, but the guys did a nice job. i LOVE the programmable WiFi thermostats. I set up a regular program for each day and have been enjoying updating them remotely. DK didn't put the app on his phone, so i've been having fun annoying him with changing the temp remotely.

Wolverine had her kindergarten graduation ceremony this weekend, so that was part of Saturday afternoon. Saturday night was Pens vs. Sharks, game 3 - another OT game. These playoffs have been stressful. Game 4 is tonight.

Sunday we got some chores done around the house - DK mowed the lawn between rain storms, and I worked on a cleaning/organizing project to get rid of stuff we don't need/use/etc. I don't know if we're turning into hoarders or if it's just very apparent because the house has so little storage space. Either way, i made a nice dent in one of our spare bedrooms, so yay for progress.

  • H and I went to his cousin's wedding on Saturday and actually had a really great time. The aunts and uncles I met of his were really great and we had a good time with MIL and SFIL. We sat up drinking with everyone until like 3 am. It was nice. I think I'm starting to get over my dislike and distrust for MIL. We'll see; I'm still cautious.

We left my car at my dad's neighbor to look at. We got there Sunday and he'd replaced all four brakes and rotors. It was cheap, but we think it needs a control arm (guy looked and said it looked fine) and H had wanted to do my brakes. Oh well, that's what we get for not talking to the guy ourselves. $400 later and at least I have new brakes and rotors. Hopefully this will be it for my car until we can get rid of it in 1.5 - 2 years.

Yay for kids and sports and actual factual weights on driver's licenses!! :)

  • All I did this weekend was work on Pride stuff.  12 days to go.  I might be having a slight freakout:

Most things are done, though maybe not how I would've liked them.  Everything will come together, just not as I would've done them.  But hey, when someone drops the ball in September, doesn't bother to tell anyone until December, and doesn't resign until February?  We pulled this all together in basically 4 months.

I might have an ulcer though.
  • I had a very productive weekend.  I started our table numbers (spray painted wine bottles with the numbers in glitter) and added some glitter to our cake stands as well.  I'm not crafty but everything turned out nicely.  10 more wine bottles to go; time to hit up Trader Joes!

@kimmiinthemitten - i know it's not as much fun as drinking the wine, but if you want empty bottles, you can hit up a homebrew store and get them for around $12/case (about $1/ea)

Thanks for the tip!  Removing the labels has actually been the worst part so I may have to do this to save my sanity (and I'll still drink the wine, you know, back ups).

@Heffalump, I forgot to mention last week... I was a swimmer as a kid, and I can safely say that as an 8yo, my 25m backstroke wasn't even close to being under 30s, so I think it's okay to brag about Wooz's times.  They're swift!!

@kimmiinthemitten we also did lots of glitterfying shit for our wedding, and DH hated how much everything shed.  I sprayed everything with clear Rust-oleum, and there was surprisingly next to no shedding.  I would tape the area around the numbers, though, because it did leave a slight film on clear glass.  Didn't try it on paint, though.

  • @AtomicBlonde I used mailbox numbers and stuck those to the bottles before painting.  After an hour, I removed them, applied glue and then poured on the glitter.  I let them sit overnight and then sprayed Mod Podge over the glitter.  It was too windy to get through more than 2 but I'll have to check how it worked when I get home.  If they're still shedding, I'll try the Rustoleum.  Thanks!

  • @kimmiinthemitten - yeah, taking the labels off sucks. I haven't bothered making labels for my wine, so i can just keep reusing the bottles with only the effort of cleaning/sanitizing them.
  • @kimmiinthemitten try equal parts boiling/hot water and white vinegar to remove the labels. That's what I used to remove wallpaper and it worked like a charm so it might help.
  • Congrats @ChelleJayne!  I had to clear my cache this morning because I couldn't post all weekend.  So frustrating.

Oh an phooey on the heat.  I live in Michigan for a reason hahaha.

If you have an Auto Zone or O'Reilly's near you they have a 3M product that removes adhesive/labels that is flat out AWESOME!!!!  Takes labels off incredibly quickly and easily - works better than GooGone or orange cleaner or soaking it off...  OR - if you have a Heat gun (they're about $20) those work fantastic too for many types of adhesives...

Hi all!! I didn't fall down the rabbit hole. TK hasn't been letting me post for like the last week. I've been lurking though.

It is getting HOTTTTTT here... Saturday it was 124 :( It will be in the low 100's this week and most of next, then back up to the one-teens.

We had to do a turn and burn to Cali and pick up some furniture for FI and my new house. OH yeah, haven't told you guys yet but, WE GOT THE HOUSE!!! Escrow will close on July 15. YAY!!!! Most of the furniture that we picked up was my mom's from the 70's. All good quality wood, just need some TLC. So I'm going to be busy for the next month or so.

Holy crap, @ChelleJayne, where are you? FW complains about being hot if it's above 75 (and she grew up in the South, go figure).

    Yay to getting the house!
