Do I need a hotel block?

My Fiancé and I are trying to decide if we even need a hotel block. Our wedding is not in a large metropolitan area so there will not be a shortage of rooms.  We also cannot even think of 10 guests who might need one, everyone is local.

I think max 5 people will need a hotel; is it okay to just put information of local hotels on our site?  If so, how do you word it so that people know we didn't block a room and are just providing info?

Re: Do I need a hotel block?

  • Like that:

    Recommended hotels in area:

    - Hotel A - $120 / night
    Location

    - Hotel B - $140 / night
    Location

You get the picture. People will understand there's no block (and you definitley don't need one)

Yup, perfectly fine not to have a hotel block. You could just write "The following hotels are located near to the reception site and information can be accessed via (hotel link, phone number, addressed, etc.)."  No need for anything else as hotels blocks will given information on how to access the deal.
  • You definitely don't need a block, but I wanted to share our experience.  We really thought very few people would need a hotel, so we didn't do a block, and just put "recommended hotels, similar to what others suggested.  MIL thought we should do a block, so she set one up.  About 4-5 times as many guests stayed in the hotels as we anticipated!  If it won't cost you anything, I might do one, just to be safe.  If it might cost you, then I'd think more carefully.
  • Truthfully, even if you don't think you need one it might be nice to set one up. It will take you about a 5 minute phone call and won't cost you anything. Typically if the rooms are not reserved by a certain date then the hotel releases them to the public. It can also sometimes help your guests get a reduced rate.
