Bridesmaid delaying buying her dress

I tried to be as easy going as possible with the bridesmaid dresses. I have 5 BM's, with different body types, so I decided to go with 5 different colors in a palette (plum & mauve, and related). Each of them got assigned a specific David's Bridal color, and they can choose any dress they want in that color that's long and is one of 3 similar fabric types. That still leaves loads of options.

My wedding is mid-September, and one of my BM's still hasn't chosen/ordered a dress. She suggested she didn't have the money, so I offered to pay for it for her, and she could pay me back later when possible. Then she said she hadn't seen a dress she liked. Then she said she's between sizes and wants to see if she can lose weight on some new eating plan. And then that she might get a raise soon, and if not, she'll go to her parents. :s

Anyway, she brought it up recently to let me know what's going on with the dress. I'm trying not to worry about it. It's just really kind of irking me and I felt like I just needed to vent about it. >:) Thanks for listening, girls.  <3

Agree with the above- she still has lots of time.

You gave her reasonable parameters (pick a long dress in X cololur from DB), so leave it to her to be an adult and get the dress.

My MOH bought her dress from DB at the end of October for my Jan 4th wedding. When I bought my wedding dress from DB, they told me 12 weeks, but it came in 4 weeks. They can also put a rush on it, if needed (but I wouldn't worry about this- let her).
  • Try not to stress about this. DB tells people they need months for their dress to come in, and it's just not the case. I ordered a dress August 2 for a September 6 wedding last year and it was in two weeks later and that was without paying the rush fee.

OP, since you are not specifying a particular dress in a particular color, the worst that happens is that your BM chooses her dress based on what is in stock/what can ship the fastest. Everything will be okay.
    @madamerwin Seconded.

    k thnx bye

  • Thanks for the feedback, guys! That's good to hear that it usually takes less time than they say.
  • Did you ever ask what her budget is? I know you're giving her lots of freedom, but apparently DB isn't stocking something she can afford...

Ditto PPs. The last time I ordered a DB dress it came in under 10 days. There is plenty of time for her to buy the dress.

    Edit for: spelling

My daughter ordered her dress from DB. They were able to see on the computer which warehouses had the dress in stock. Her dress was due in within three months, but came in two weeks.

Do you know you can look up sale dresses by color and size on DB? Your bm might be able to get a sale dress, especially if you give her a few color options. Here are two examples:

Double check the return policy on dresses that are ordered on line. Some are returnable.

My mother bought a dress off the rack from DB and walked out of the store with it.

  • Why did you assign them each a particular color? Did they get to pick their favorite? Maybe she's holding out hope that she can get one in one of the colors you assigned to someone else.

Either way, I would not worry about this at all.
  • I totally understand where you are coming from. David's Bridal said my dresses needed to be ordered by mid July for my October wedding and then the demand shot up for my style and the changed my cut off date to early June. I had some very unhappy bridesmaids who felt like they didn't have enough time to get money together, loss weight etc. I know David's Bridal has some styles/colors that are "quick ship" So browsed through the styles to see which ones were quick ship in case one of my girls didn't end up ordering on time and wrote down the style numbers for reference. Just an idea. Good luck!

Right now David's has their clearance sale going on... They've got some dresses for $29 online that are fantastic.  Order for the size she is now, and heck at $29 she could order both sizes and still have money leftover...  It's easy to alter a dress down it's impossible to go up...  I just bought a dress to wear on stage with a long-line for less than $120 after tax, I usually end up spending more than that just in alterations but it ended up fitting properly!

The only reason I can think that she would assign colors is if she's going for a type of ombre effect with the bridesmaids when they're standing at the alter. My best friend did that for her wedding - she presented us all with the shades of blue and the girls discussed who would feel best in each shade and who really didn't care. If that's not what the OP is going for though, then I have no idea why one would need to assign colors, unless she doesn't want all but one picking the same color, and then one random person in a different color (which wouldn't matter but it's the only other scenario that comes to mind).
