Engagement Party

I have a few questions about the engagement party. My fiance and I are young (20 & 21) and we are thinking of throwing our own engagement party... Is there anything wrong with that? Also, is two months too little notice for a small engagement party?

My FI and I threw our own engagement party. It was great because we had total control over the whole thing and gave us some ideas that carried over  into the wedding. The only thing I would say is that our families gave us a lot of gifts from our registry (which I found weird) so we a)had to find new things to add to the registry for future events and b)spent quite a bit of money on the party that probably could have been put towards the wedding since we didn't even get half of what we spent back in monetary gifts. So my word of advice would be don't take much away from your wedding budget if you're also paying for your own wedding. In terms of the notice, two months is more than enough notice for an engagement party! Good luck! :)

Traditionally, parents or other family members are supposed to throw the party in your honor, but it's totally okay to go the non-traditional route. Engagement parties are really two things: a way to celebrate your upcoming nuptuals, and a way for the two sides of the family to mingle and get to know each other before all the other wedding parties/showers/dinners etc.
We just had ours this past weekend, my parents threw it for us. It was great to see our families enjoy one another's company. So, I would say go ahead if you have it in your budget!
