Dear Prudence?

so I have a question about these "dear prudence" posts, I'm relatively new to this forum (was a creepy lurker for a while and just started joining in recently)...are these a way to "ask for a friend" of someone you know or are these copy and pasted from actual dear prudence letters in a newspaper?   

Just curious.

    Sadly (but fun for us) these are the real Dear Prudie columns. Although a "asking for a friend.." Day would be pretty fun around here too.

    If it was all 'asking for a friend' I'd be thinking Mrs Conn probably needs to get a new social circle.
    Lol or become a therapist and bank off all her seriously troubled acquaintances
