Yikes! Any brides in Ellicott City, MD?

Daughter and family were chasing Pokemons there a few hours prior to the flood!  Hope no one had a wedding planned there!

Re: Yikes! Any brides in Ellicott City, MD?

  • I used to live there, have friends that still live there, and was married there the first time around (also had my RD there as well). Everyone I know is safe, but I hadn't heard anything about the church and restaurant.

  • I know that two people have lost their life, and many have lost their livelihood, and homes, so I feel horribly selfish but I am stressed about this. My wedding is just over 90 days away, and the dress is with the seamstress. She works out of the basement of her home in Ellicott City (about 3 miles south of Main St.). I know that water coming into the house is a nightmare to deal with, as we have had this issue many times in the past few years in the last house we were renting.

I need advise on what/when to ask about any possible damage, if at all. I don’t want to leave this unanswered for another month and a half, when I have the next fitting as that would make getting a replacement much more difficult. I would hope if things were damaged she would let people know, but she appeared to only have paper records, which could have been destroyed if the water was high enough.

If this was a separate standing business I am not sure I would feel so uncomfortable asking, but this is her home. It feels intrusive to ask someone if their home flooded.

Call her and ask "Are you all right?  Did the floods damage your house?"

I would just check in with her to make sure she's ok. Her answer will probably tell you what you need to know about your dress. Or she'll read between the lines and reassure you that your dress is fine.
