back to the drawing board

Yesterday, I got a phone call from my venue stating that effective the end of this year, they will be closing their doors. Unfortunately, that means that they can no longer host my spring 2017 wedding (ceremony and reception) which I've had booked since January. I'm a little shocked, but FI and I decided to remain positive. We still have months to find a new venue, and we're getting our deposit back! Yay! Venue aside, my wedding package was all-inclusive:  DJ, florist, cake and photographer, so I plan on calling the vendors and getting their pricing. I'm hoping their prices are reasonable, but if not, there are other vendors out there.

In regards to the venue, we'd prefer the ceremony and reception to be held at the same place. I was able to cross one venue off my list when I learned they only offer outdoor ceremonies, and no back up if it rains. When I told that venue's wedding coordinator that wouldn't work for us, she tried explaining that so far this year, there was only one wedding in which it rained, and the pictures turned out gorgeous. Gag! I just said "thanks, but no thanks, I will not be allowing my guests to get wet for pretty pictures."

Anyway, back to the drawing board!

That sucks about the venue, but you've still got a fair bit of time.

    Good luck on the search!
  • You have a great attitude about this!  Good luck with the search!

  • dang that stinks, especially since it was all-inclusive so you already had so many decisions made. Any similar venues nearby?

We're going to look at a venue this Saturday. It has the same look and feel as our original venue, but does not offer all-inclusive packages.

That's what stuck out to me the most, seriously OP has an amazing attitude and is taking this with stride.

I hope you find something just as amazing or even better :)

Thank you. I think it'll work out for the best. :)
  • Something similar happened to me. Our booked venue became ensnared in a weird bankruptcy thing, and we just did not feel comfortable counting on them staying in business, so we ended up having to find a new venue a little over 5 months out. We ended up finding one we loved even more; don't know how we missed it in our initial search! Good luck!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • No matter what happens you and your beloved will have a fantastic wedding because you know what's truly important, getting married to your partner. Good luck and keep us posted.

  • Thanks everyone! We found a venue. It doesn't have all inclusive packages, but it does include a lot, and it's absolutely gorgeous. I think we'll even end up saving some money in the end!
