My family reunion is Sunday at a park. I need a side dish that can travel 20 minutes and stand being outside after. Someone brought tator tots to the neighborhood picnic. I thought it was genius, but they won't last the drive.

That Mexican salad looks awesome. Bonus we have carrots, fennel, and jalapeno in the garden.

@mnnebride- we do something similar but just call them sausage bean crap.

I was actually only half-joking, because popcorn is usually hassle free... but perhaps consider purchasing from an Etsy seller.

Popcorn is a great idea, unless it's humid outside. It will get chewy fast if the dew point is high.

I make a carrot slaw that was been very effective for this purpose. Shredded carrot, diced apples, toasted coconut flakes with a tiny cardamom, and parsley. Then when you get there just pour on the dressing (olive oil and lemon juice) so it doesn't get soggy on the drive. Bonus points, even vegans can eat this.

This is the one I use. We have a deep fryer we use for it. I only do the freezing part for 30 minutes or an hour. I also find that they are ready after about 3 minutes. Five minutes and they were pretty dark for me. Also, I just use Velveeta instead of those cheeses. I tried them the first time, and it was all stringy and hard to work with. I also usually add bacon. Sometimes we make the Mac n cheese specifically for these, and sometimes we make them a couple days after we've had it and use the leftovers.

We've made meatballs in a crockpot and carried it in various containers to see which would keep hot longest.
Surprisingly, it was still warm in all of them.
