Wedding Woes

Feelin' like a Monday on Tuesday

Post weekend blues are in full effect.  I also have the pleasure of coming off a horrendous day-long allergy attack yesterday.   So my nose hurts from being rubbed raw and I just feel...ugh.  I went to bed at 9:30 last night.

But the weekend was awesome.  One of our best ones yet.  The kids had an excellent time.

How was your weekend?

Re: Feelin' like a Monday on Tuesday

  • We watched a lot of football and a handful of old horror movies (I remember The Shining being a whole lot scarier than that?) and got some yard work/cleaning done.  Once again, I did more sleeping than anything else. I don't really think I'm getting so little sleep during the week that 12+ hours at night in addition to 2+ hour naps are warranted every weekend.  I hate feeling like such a waste.

I'm flying out this afternoon for a few days of "training," so my week is pretty much a joke.  I'm a little high-strung this morning, though, because I hate flying so much.  I may try to see my bestie on Thursday after work, but that would require me renting a car and driving 40 miles to her house, and, much as I love her, that just seems like a lot of work.  Maybe I should just arrange a weekend trip home instead.

  • Good morning!
Whole lotta relaxing this weekend. It was nice.

Snarky snark. On Friday, we went to a local pub for dinner around 5pm. As we're sitting there belly-up, a trolly full of dressed-up 20-somethings pulls up and the people pile into the bar. Start ordering drinks, crank up the jukebox, etc.
Well, it's too early for college formals and we're too far from downtown for the corporate stuff, so we ask a girl what the occasion is. She said, with a detectable eye roll, "We're with a wedding. The bride and groom are off taking more pictures and they told us to just go to a bar."

Ooo! Ooo! So not only was it a Friday wedding (by itself certainly not a bad thing), it was an early Friday ceremony with a gap before the reception, in an expensive city for Labor Day Weekend. At least they had a trolly.

  • H and I went to his mom's in Northern WI and came home yesterday, along with every single other person. It took us nearly nine hours when it normally takes 6 because of traffic.

But the weekend was nice. No drama, no bullshit. Nice. As much as I love to hold a grudge, I'm happy to be moving on with them.

But being on the lake, driving through forests and doing a little hiking made me very sad that we stayed in IL and bought a house instead of moving to the mountains. I just feel so much better with real air and real outdoorsy shit to do.

  • Weekend was good went too fast. Watched my first Ohio State game (poor BGSU). Then Saturday and Sunday we did house projects and I finally finished painting the hallways!

It was really nice not traveling on a holiday for once. We got a lot done but also spent a lot of time drinking coffee and reading on the porch. Nice together time.
  • We went to the zoo with the baby. It was great! Lots of the animals were out. Our zoo just barely missed being in the Top 10. We were both really excited that one of the grizzlies was playing in the water and when it got out it came right up to me and tried to sniff me (I'm very thankful for that inch thick glass). The gorillas were all active, too and we sat and watched one of the babies playing with its' mom. Harrison is aware enough now that if he sees one move, he watches it. Only complaint is that people allow their children to bang on the glass.
  • @thisismynickname that's a very snark-worthy event!

We had a great weekend too!  Did the art/food/music fair with the bestie the first two days.  On Saturday we never did make it bridesmaid dress shopping, but we did watch Sex And The City from the institution guy straight through to Paris, so I consider that a wash.

Sunday, we went to FFIL's for dinner and had a blast!  Yesterday we ran into the local state park and then hiked back for a total of 5 miles.  Then FI went into day before school mode and we adulted pretty hard.  I tried taking a first day of school photo for Facebook but he wouldn't let me; party pooper.

OOh!  @charlotte989875 I'm late to the game on this one, but we watched Miss Representation on Netflix last night, and I really enjoyed it.  FI is going to use clips of it in his AP Gov class this year too!  If you haven't seen it yet, I think you'll like it.  It's about how the media skews our perception of women and how that bias affects our voting and civic engagement.

  • we mostly did the kiddo's birthday stuff--this was her weekend for that.

We had a few challenges, but overall good.

But the dog started having issues this weekend.
In a few, I'm taking the elderly dog to the vet--remember she has blown out both rear ACLs?  well, now she won't put weight on her right front.  And she's not acting herself.  I"m hoping they say something like "oh, here are pain pills, give them to her on bad days", but I'm not sure it'll be that fun.
  • Friday night I made "old school" popcorn- not microwaved and not an air popper, but not on the stove.  We watched movies and gorged.  The kids were totally impressed

Saturday we went to the farmer's market then went to BIL's to give his granddaughter a gift.  Sunday we had friends over and had a blast.
Monday I took 6let and M2 to the pool for the last time and DH took Max fishing.

My dad had a partial knee replacement this morning.  He's out and doing great.

DH is going out of town Wednesday and Thursday next week.  Wednesday there are 2 soccer practices and Thursday soccer and gymnastics.  I wish there was a service that could drive them and stay. As it stands they'll each have to miss something.  We don't have carpool people and they are too far apart to really drop someone off.

We drank a lot of wine last night.   I'm tired and dragging this morning.

Today is our anniversary.    We both have to work tonight.  At least it's at the same place.   If DH is able to take tomorrow off we will go to the outlets stores.  I've lost so much weight my pants do not stay on anymore.  :)
Congrats on the anniversary and the weight loss!!

  • A woman that was one of my bridesmaids got married Saturday night.  I'm a little sad that our friendship is over and I missed this time in her life.
  • Morning! This is such a Monday in disguise ...

So Friday my mum signed the gift letter and I have to follow up today because mortgage center was likely closed early. Just a nightmare.

Saturday H went fishing in the morning, broke his rod, came back and we {H, myself and a friend} went to get him a new one plus went for lunch. They went fishing again, then we met other friends at a local bar/grill for a bit.

Sunday had to get a card and heavier sinus meds because allergy ones just ARE NOT CUTTING IT! This is awful, you'd swear I had a cold. Anyways, glad I got them because the wedding for my coworker on Sunday was half inside, half outside. Lovely place and perfect for her wedding, which was small and intimate. Once I get a copy of some of the photos taken I'll post, we got some funny ones

Monday was slow until afternoon. My mum was hosting a dinner for my bday {which is Wednesday} My nana, granny, H, MIL and stepFIL were there.
I got some nice stuff. I'd asked for money {i need fall/winter stuff} so I did get that, plus a leopard print travel mug, shawl/scarf and a few other things. We brought up funny stories about each other. Nothing bad, definitely things that embarrassed people in a good way.

    One story I brought up:
This was before H and I were engaged, we were at MIL and stepFIL place for a dinner. MIL's parents were there, and after dinner H was sitting in the living room, meanwhile MIL and her mum and I were at the dining table. H said something and MIL {who had some wine at this point} looks over and says "No *SON* I'm busy talking to my future daughter in-law!"
I knew she liked me, but at that point I said to H on our way home "I think your mum likes me" lmao!!

It was a later night than I usually do work nights, but worth it ;)
  • Thanks, @kimmiinthemitten I don't know how I haven't seen that!
  • Still in computer hell after Friday's catastrophe, so please excuse any wonkiness, as I am on mobile.

Weekend got off to a weird start when Wooz's school was on lockdown Friday afternoon. I didn't get to pick her up until 5:30, and she ended up missing her riding lesson. Two guys broke into a house near school which turned out to belong to a sheriff's deputy, and they may or may not have stolen a gun or two before taking off on foot. So that was some drama. I was really glad to get her home again.

The rest of the weekend was pretty awesome. We had our traditional neighborhood end of the season pool party. Played with the kids, filled up DS's water table, made cookies, that kind of stuff. DH started making noises about a mountain trip this fall. He is usually the strict one re: the budget, and with the beach and my grandma's 100th, I figured that would pretty much be our travel budget. But a mountain trip sounds like heaven right now...
  • I took Friday off to make it a 4-dayer.  Unfortunately, Friday turned out to be a nightmare.  I was so upset, I even had a short cry.  It's too long and would be boring to others to explain.  Just one of those days where problems and stresses where all piled on at once and I was both angry and overwhelmed by it.

Not a good way to start the long weekend I had REALLY been looking forward to.  It at least improved after that.  The rest of the weekend was a lot of relaxing and laying around, though I did get some house organizing done.  I polished off a bottle of champagne...by myself...on Sunday.  But it took me all morning and into the afternoon.  I'm not a complete drunkard, lol.

Also caught up on a LOT of my DVR.  Back up to 50% of the memory being available, lol.

But, the problem after a long weekend?  Today has SSUUUCCKKEEEDDD.  I had to force myself to come to work today by reminding myself it would be a short week and I would somehow get through it.

Two of the three cats have been "helping" with the thank-you notes by sitting on the table, trying to steal the stamps, and standing in front of the laptop screen so that I can't see addresses. Cute but annoying. At least they're taking a break from bugging the dog.

ETA: A couple minutes ago, the "baby" (2 years old and the only girl) took off with the stamps in her mouth. I wish I'd taken a picture before I took them from her.
