Good morning!

I've been in IT hell since 7am.  I'm all fixed up, but damn I wish I could have slept in.  Those extra 2+ hours would have been nice.

I 'tricked' DH and the kiddo into making dinner last night.  I was tired and my stomach wasn't feeling so hot.  DH was asking about dinner (tacos).  I told the kiddo it's time to learn and DH needed to supervise/chop veggies.  It went...OK.  I got asked 5(?) times to come help.  My response was, "There's two of you in there.  I routinely prepare an entire dinner by myself.  Figure it out."  I watched the news and did some practice with DefConn for school.   I will be employing this tactic more often.  ;)

DefConn and the kiddo were messing around last night and DefConn basically clapped the kiddo in the balls.  The kiddo was all, "Why did you do that?!"  DefConn said he was trying to give him a high five.  *sigh*

Re: Thursday!

  • @mrsconn23 that's awesome!  FI had a mom who never let him lift a finger, so he never learned how to do much.  To this day, she yells at him if he puts a dish directly in the dishwasher instead of the sink.  Now that he's an adult and has his own home he wished he fought back more an learned how to cook, etc.  He paid someone his first week to teach him how to do laundry.

Yesterday was our company golf outing.  It was oppressively hot, we got poured on, I still suck at golf, and it was a blast!  Then, I went with my BFF to check out a new bridal show to see if it was worth her renting a space the following year.  We were there for 25 minutes, so the answer is no.

Tomorrow is one week until surgery, so today's my last day with booze and caffeine.  Man, now what am I going to do?

  • H acts like the kitchen is a foreign land too. He tries, bless his heart, but he needs a lot of help.

Last night H was talking about how he's sad that we won't have the bigger TV and the basement set up for football season. It was hard not to tell him that I already bought the TV. I'm terrible with those kids of things.

Today sucks. My mom died two years ago today. I still need her every day.

  • ((@ShesSoCold))

    Sad anniversaries suck.
  • Love it, conn.  Son has shown interest in learning how to cook, so I've had him do some easy stuff.  DH and I are both huge supporters of kids doing things for themselves.  Son has been doing his own laundry since he was 10 or 11, I can't remember which.

The thing with the cooking is that when we cook together, we are cooking for 5 (which is probably more like cooking for 7 or 8 in this house), so I keep reminding him how much he would actually need to feed just himself.  I've still got a few years to work with him.

Today I'm donating of a ton of stuff from the girls' rooms.  Lots of clothes, shoes and toys are getting out of here.  This afternoon I'm volunteering in DD1's classroom.

  • I'm terrible at keeping those secrets too, @ShesSoCold, what TV did you get? I'm thinking of getting a new one for H's birthday in a few weeks, but I don't know where to start. We actually like ours, but its too small for our living room.

Today is dreary, but I don't care because football!
  • Lots of (((hugs))), @ShesSoCold

I am still sorta in IT hell. New laptop is on the way.

I shouldn't say this, but this week is going really well. Bus situation appears to be sorted out. (Knock on wood.) Activities are going fine. Evenings are going fine. DH's schedule has been a lot better.

Wooz started her new swim program yesterday, and it was intense. She is usually shaky with new things or big changes, but she handled it like a pro. Meanwhile, I told DH I was like the country bumpkin transplanted to the big city, gaping and bumbling around.
  • Thanks, ladies! :)

Charlotte, we got a 65 inch Sony. Model number has a 900 in it. From what we looked at, Sony TVs at this size, the model numbers go up as the quality does. We compared the 750, 810, 850 and 900 and standing next to each other, H said he disliked the 750 (I'd bet a lot of money that he wouldn't notice if the TVs weren't all there in a row) so I figured we'd get the 810 or 850, but the 900 was on sale and only like $100 more than the lesser model. I couldn't tell you what the actual difference is between the different models but the picture is better. I paid $1,400.

H is kind of a snob and he really likes Sony TVs. We bought our first flat screen five years ago now probably and H still loves it (50 inch Sony). So that'll go in the basement and the new TV will hopefully look less comical in our giant living room.

In DefConn's defense, he is a lot shorter than his brother. :-P
  • I paid off 5 of 6 credit cards today and will be able to pay off some medical bills and still have some money for things we thought we were going to have to cut from the reception and pay down on the last card. My credit score has jumped 13 points this month and I can't wait to see what it does next month.

@ShesSoCold hugs to you. These days are hard.
  • FWP of the day: I ate all of my lunch and snacks already and I'm starving. There is the student union, full of food, 10 yards from my building, but it's raining so I'm just going to sit here and complain.

Congrats!  A substantial improvement in a person's "credit card utilization" aspect of their credit score is the fastest way to jump it up.  Unfortunately, it jumps down just as fast when it worsens.

If I am not mistaken, I'm pretty sure "credit card utilization" is considered a medium factor for determining a person's score.

My credit utilization is the one bad quality on my score. According to the credit simulator, if I can pay this card down $1,000 my score should bump up to excellent. Once I get my old wedding set sold, I'll be able to pay off half of it.
  • This has been slow work day anyway and the last hour has been torture.  14 more minutes to go, lol.

I'm just excited that, for once, I can actually go straight home except for one quick 5-minute purchase at a Rite Aid I literally drive past.

  • Thanks @ShesSoCold, I had no idea where to start. We have a Vizio we really like, but it's just too small for the living room. I hate to replace a perfectly fine TV (we don't keep one in the bedroom or kitchen), but I know he's prefer a bigger one.  I love the suggestion of putting it in the basement.
