Apple Airpods -   Really?   Now I'm a Samsung girl (just got the new Active 7) so I wouldn't buy them anyway.  But $159 for wireless ear pods?

One that are separate?  Hello. I would totally lose one of those.   A tether would be needed.    I currently have Skullcandy bluetooth ones that I love.  It wraps around my neck so I do not lose them.

I have small ear canals.  The regular apple ear buds hurt my ears and would pop out.  Heck, when I buy 3rd party ear buds I first have to switch out the standard plastic piece with the smaller ones.    No way I would be able to use those.

No controls?  Yeah, another deal-breaker for me.  I like adjusting the volume and/or answer calls via the button on the wire.

So what is your thought on them or any other random thought you  might want to discuss?

Re: Random talk

  • I think Apple is trying to find ways to make their phones stand out.   The courage line was a load of BS.   It's not courageous to make things more difficult AND more expensive for your customers.

That iPhones still don't operate on a universal standard annoys me and it's part of why I'm happier with my Samsung.    Right now, I can charge my phone using our Qi wireless chargers around the house, I can beam files to DH's phone and my phone is considered a portable drive when charging using my computer USB port.   NONE of those are available in the iPhone.       One of the better decisions we made was to get out of that ecosystem.

FW has $50 Beats earbuds that she loses at least once a month and needs my help to find. If she spent $159 on earbuds, I would side-eye that big time.
  • I had someone tell me that it's weird that I have a picture of my dog, one of Mike Ditka and two pictures of Kyle Long at my desk, but none of my H.

By a person with pictures of Snoooy and her kids but none of her H.

    The fuck?

I just got the Qi wireless charger.   Loving it.

We are a split family as DH is an iPhone guy.  So no beaming files to DH.  It doesn't sound like he can use the Q1 wireless charger either.  His loss.

    WTF?

DH has a picture of him and Ben Stiller from our HM.  None of me.    I did side-eye him when we got from our HM and he only put up the Ben Stiller photo from the wedding/HM and none of us from the wedding.  Ha.  I got over it though.

  • I will definitely be getting the iPhone 7 but I’ll probably just stick to using the adapter for traditional wire headphones. I don’t really understand all the fuss- the adapter comes with the phone and if you just keep it attached to your headphones all the time it’s not like it’s another thing to lose. So functionally it’s no difference to me.  I’m just excited the phone is going to be louder and more water resistant!

Some people listen to  music and charge at the same time.  You will not be able to do that now.    Might not be a big deal for most, but if you travel a lot, it's a nice feature to be able to listen and charge at the same time.

I've had water resistant/dust proof phone for 2 years now.  My newest one is water resistant up to 5 feet for 30 minutes.    Way to finally catch up iphone.

I told her it was weird that she didn't have a picture of Ditka at her desk.

The only pictures I have at my desk are one of my niece (and it's an old picture), and, like, 4 magazine cutouts of Grumpy Cat. I've been considering getting a picture of my dog to add to the collection, but there are none of my husband.

  • Ha @ShesSoCold I'm not a Bears fan, I've never been to Chicage, but for some reason I just love Coach Ditka!

I have an Iphone and I'm happy with it.  I don't keep up with the accessories and I've never gotten one right when it comes out (I just upgraded to the 6 from the 4 in May).  I like it though.

Since yesterday I've been sinking into my 9/11 sadness so I just baked brownies.  I was going to make a tray of baked ziti too but it's super hot in my area today and I'm sick of having the oven on.

I only have my niece.  The only reason for that is I work from home.  I opened the mail one day at my desk and she had sent me her graduation picture.  I just put it on my bulletin board.  Normally it would be upstairs  on our fridge.

Ah yeah I can see how the charging could be an issue, but my iPhone battery lasts all day even when I'm using it a ton so I've never needed to charge it except at night. That's just me though.

I've had my iPhone 5c for 3.5 years now, and only recently has the battery started to drain faster. Even so, it lasts into the evening before I need to charge it. I used to just charge it overnight every night, and it was good to go all day.

The main reason I'm excited for the iPhone 7 to come out is because usually, when a new model comes out, the old one gets cheaper. So the iPhone 7 means I'll probably upgrade to an iPhone 6 soon :)

  • we're still paying off my 6S (monthly installments).  I have no desire to upgrade, and maybe not even when the iphone 8 comes out.  These features mean nothing to me.

I keep the iphone because it doesn't bother me.  it's a phone.  But mostly I have it for facetime.  My sister will never leave facetime/ipad, and it's the only way I get to see my nieces who live so far away.  She never calls to tell me she wants to facetime, just does...so having the phone on me at all times is very very useful for that.

  • I'm grouchy at apple.  But not about the headphones/"airpods" thing.  I almost never use headphones anyway, so I don't care one iota either way.

I'm not someone who always has to have the latest and greatest in tech, but I really value the water resistant feature of the new 7.  And my 5s is on its last legs.  The screen is actually detached at the top, and it's just all kinds of wonky. I would have replaced it sooner, but I heard rumors about the water resistance thing and I decided to wait for that.  So this time around I found myself being one of those people who logs on at 2 AM our time to buy the stupid thing so I can get my hands on it before my current one straight up dies.

And then I couldn't even do it because my whole family does the family plan thing and you need the account holder's social security number in order to complete the transaction.  I mean, that would make perfect sense if I was doing an upgrade thing where it affected the monthly bill.  But I wasn't.  I just wanted to give them my $750 and get a new phone.  It's a simple, straight up retail transaction.  So now not only am I out an hour of sleep with nothing to show for it, I am probably going to have to stand in a stupid line at a stupid apple store next Friday to buy one, since I absolutely have to have a new phone prior to a big trip we have coming up in a couple of weeks.

    Consider me officially riled.   :#
  • Jesus shit they're $7 freaking 50?!?!

They have a $650 model, but for $100 more you get four times the amount of storage.  I take a ton of photos, so I figured I would go with the middle amount of storage.

    32 gigs=$650
    128 gigs=$750
    256 gigs=$850
  • I just read an article and this woman said she wasn't buying the wireless headphones for the most SIMPLEST reason. And I agree completely

Those white headphone wires are a huge signal to people you're in no mood to talk. Without them showing, people will think you're available for chatter. Let me tell you the crazy difference between having a bright wire vs a black wire .... people seem to be more apt to ignore the darker wire and talk to you.

I can't sit on the bus relying on my RBF .... I need that wire.
  • More and more phones are going to start costing that much.   If I didn't get my phone with the contract subsidy it would have been $650.   The $750 is not a huge surprise.

What surprises me is the way Apple tries to tell me that they're doing me a favor that's making life easier when they're doing the exact opposite.
  • Apparently answering "Google works wonders for this" was not the appropriate answer to "Are there any bridal shops in Norman?"

I think subsidies are going away for most major cell phone carriers in the U.S. We have an AT&T family plan, and as of last year you can no longer sign a 2-year contract and get an iPhone (or any phone) for cheap or free. Now, the data and voice/text plan itself costs slightly less, but you pay about $20/month in installments for the phone over a couple of years. So you actually DO pay the full price. You own it after 30 months, and you can upgrade after 24 months, or something like that. Altogether, pretty sure it came out to about $10 more a month when H got his new phone (I still have my 5s, but when I get a new one, we'll have to pay full price for that - in monthly installments or up-front - too).
