Wedding gift for parents

I have a questions! Do you give a gift the day of or before the wedding to the parents OR wait till after?  I have no idea what the protocol is. Both set of parents helped a lot.

Re: Wedding gift for parents

  • In private on the morning of the wedding or night before. Just my 2 cents xxx
  • Are your parents getting married?

I don't know if there's a specific protocol, but we did ours privately after the rehearsal dinner (so the night before the wedding, in our case).

    Edited to fix words.
    Anniversary

  • We gave our parents photo albums, so we had to wait until after wedding.

Each album was customized for the respective parent (e.g., group shots of my family for my parents album, group shots of DH's mother's family for her album, photos of DH's father's family for his album, etc.).

  • Depends on the gift. We got our family frames that were personalized, so we waited until after and we got the photos back. {side note; if you opt for frames, please be sure it's something they would enjoy! Not all parents want a frame, but we know our parents and this was best for them :) }

If it's something else and you're seeing them before the ceremony, do it then.
  • We plan on giving all of our gifts to each person privately at the rehearsal dinner - bridal party, parents, ect.

  • We gave my parents and his mom a picture frame with pictures from our wedding, so we saved the gift for the holidays (got married end of October).
  • It is not necessary to give the parents of the couple any gift.  My best gift from my daughter was when she threw her arms around me, gave me a hug, and said "Thank you, Mom!   It was perfect!"  She also wrote me a lovely thank you note and gave us some photos later.

  • I just gave mine to my mom sometime the week before, she was staying at my house.

We also did the picture frame stuff, at the holidays.

  • I didn't. I made them (and my grandparents and aunt) a book of photos later, which I'm fairly sure my dad has never seen.
My cousin got married last weekend and his new wife gave my aunt this (tear!).

  • We gave our parents nice picture frames the night before the wedding, although obviously we didn't have wedding pictures yet.  So I drew a sticker figure with sharpie and put it in there.  My MIL loved it and was a little disappointed to replace it lol.

I don't think there's any rule at all on this.
