Getting in Shape

frustrated!

I've been going to the gym for a little over a month and weighed myself this morning to see I gained 2lbs. The past few days I've been feeling like the gym isn't helping and I'm getting frustrated. I know you can't see much results in a month but my motivation is slowly dying after going on the scale this morning :-(

Re: frustrated!

  • you should try measuring yourself a long w weighing yourself. Sometimes the scale wont budge at first but u still loose some weight(happens w me). Also if youve gained some muscle that could be a factor as well.

[QUOTE]Read the FAQ sticky at the top of the page for more info on kick-starting weight loss. Are you currently tracking your calories? That was my big problem. I thought I was eating healthy and was frustrated that I wasn't losing weight, but when I actually started using My Fitness Pal to track, I realized I was way over-eating. So my first recommendation would be to jump on My Fitness Pal or Spark People and start tracking. You can also try measuring yourself, rather than just weighing yourself. You might be gaining muscle but losing inches, which could explain the lack of weight loss.

That right there. I was killing myself at the gym and couldn't understand why I just wasn't seeing results. Then I started tracking my calories and even though I was working out I was wayyyyy over eating. Once I started doing this I waited about 4 weeks to actually weigh myself again, then I started seeing the results and they kept on coming. My body seems to take a while to adjust to changes which is why I initially waited 4 weeks to get on the scale, even now I only weigh in every 2 weeks. I didn't want to discourge myself if I wasn't seeing the results because my body takes so long to catch up with what I'm doing that at first I started only weighing myself every month.

So anyways, get something like myfitnesspal or spark people (both free) and start tracking!

  • When I joined my gym they measured me so I have my follow-up with them this week. I'll be able to see if any inches have been lost in all the areas they measured. Sometimes I wish I could be like a guy and lose weight almost immediately lol
Thank you all for your suggestions :-)
  • Start measuring yourself and measure every couple of months, or every month. No more than that, you won't see huge amounts gone that quickly. If you're building muscle you're getting leaner but muscle weighs more, hence maybe a 2 lb weight gain.

Also write down what you're eating, maybe you already cut back on certain foods/portion sizes, etc, and drink water like crazy

  • Stress has a lot to do with all of this, i also have the problem with trying to loose weight and i love to see quick results. I stopped weighing myself and i think its a great thing to do.

Its what you want to look like right? in the end most of us feel good when we look good. try not getting to to concerne about weight, muscle weighs more remember. So like many people have mention measurement are much more accurate to track then weight if you are wanting some written proof of your sucess!

    Keep working hard! :)
  • The best way to lose weight is keep your gym routine, track your calories and cut back on your carbohydrates/sugar. Not saying get rid of carbs all together, but cut where you can. Carbolydrates become sugar once they enter your body and will be stored away, it's easy to over eat your daily dose. Try having a what you would normally put on a sandwich on a bed of lettuce or don't eat the bread/bun, instead of cereal have granola and yogurt, swap dessert for some fruit, etc. It might be hard at first but it takes a good 2 weeks for cravings to go away. At the end of the day the gym helps to burn calories and tone but you need to balance it with a smart diet. Good luck!

  • Don't stay frustrated! You can totally do this.

Working out will help you tremendously, but you have to figure out if the food you're eating is hindering you.

You could be overeating or undereating.

If you need help, you can post a days worth of food and I will help you.

Make sure you're eating whole foods. Ditch the "Diet" food- and increase your water intake if you can.

    You're doing great :)
  • I LOVE working out and have had luck with beachbody.com. In addition to working out, you must start a healthy eating plan as well! It is the only way. I experienced gaining weight first hand when I trained for a 1/2 marathon but didn't monitor my food intake :( Then I started eating right and working out and I have been averaging 1 1/2 pds weight loss per week, which is better than nothing!
