Houston Heights Firestation..thought I should share

I recently had my wedding here (February 4th). Here is a review I posted on Yelp, I figured this may be helpful for other brides in at least knowing what they're about to deal with if they use this as their venue.

This place as a venue was terrific, however, the woman that ran it was RUDE. She was rude the entire time I dealt with her, and on the day of my wedding I was late (it started raining and the traffic got bad-her daughter in law had passed away and I understood she was in a hurry, but I was not intentionally late). She reprimanded me on being late, which is fine. I apologized to her and her response was, "Well, it's not like my daughter in law PLANNED on dying this week" or something like that. Just extremely rude. I couldn't help that I was late, I'm normally early for everything but this woman was just nasty to me. I'm sorry for her loss, but please don't take it out on me.
I got $250 out of $500 of my deposit back (which I was expecting from other reviews), but this was her reasoning..
She claimed one of her trashcans was missing (Why would we steal a giant trash can??)
We didn't mop the stairs (I admit we didn't, but they were back, but it's understandable that we did get charged for them)
She said we didn't take any of the trash out (which we did, I stayed to clean and lock up)
She also claimed we moved chairs from downstairs to upstairs which makes no sense-I did a count when set up and cleaned up and it was the same number.

I"m not going to dispute this, it's a huge hassle, I just wish she would have been honest in the checklist, and I don't understand how mopping stairs would cost $250 (I know this includes the other things she claimed we did or didn't do, but even with all of that, seriously??)

  • sorry to hear you had that experience! That would also make me mad to have to deal with her being like that especially for my wedding
  • I had my reception there in 2009. They told me that the chair were dirty. How could they get dirty when I had chair covers on ALL of the chairs. Anyways. I think they just make crap up. But you get a pretty great deal for renting the venue for the day. Just go in expecting you won't get your whole deposit back.

  • Hmm...my wedding is here on April 28th!  She's been a little weird, but not outright rude yet.  Thanks for the heads up though, I'll let my fiance know to not expect the whole deposit back.

Any other advide, OP?  Did the reception turn out well?
