August 2012 Weddings

Uh oh RSVP

I was all excited today when we got our first RSVP to our wedding. We opened it to find that the guest not only didn't put a return address on the invite but they didn't fill in their name/s either! No idea who the guest is. I think I will lose it if all of the invites come back this way.

Re: Uh oh RSVP

  • Oh man I never thought of this!!
  • Thankfully I thought of this right before I sealed our invites, so I went back and put a small number in the bottom corner of each RSVP card. They are black cards and I used a black ball point pen so you can't see the number unless you turn the card just right. Then I put corresponding numbers next to each person on my guest list so I will know who the card is from if they don't put a name!
  • I wrote small numbers on the back of the RSVP cards just in case this happened! Some people just don't know unfortunately. Hopefully you don't get to many of these!

I read a while back about this happening to someone too (Must be very common) so she suggested buying black light pens and putting numbers on all the RSVPs, which is what I did. You cannot see the number unless you use a black light. I thought it was a really clever idea. Hopefully other people are not in as much of a rush and actually fill the cards out for you!

  • That stinks!  Thanks for the warning... ours will go out next week and I didn't even think of that!

  • I didn't even realize this! Mine were about to go out next week too....I will definitely be doing this, this weekend!
  • Glad I could provide assistance to others. Numbering the cards would definitely prevented this. I am sure I will figure it out eventually. Luckily I think this one can only belong to a handful of people based on the postmark so it should be easy enough to track down.

This is what our invitation lady did. She has a list that matches up with the corresponding number.
In your case its too late to go back - but you can certainly try to narrow it down once you get more of your RSVPS back.
I think it might be rare that this happens.

  • Thanks for the advice, Dawn. I just placed numbers next to each guest on our spreadsheet. :)
  • Thanks for the heads up and advice ladies, I'm thinking of writing numbers on the back of mine too now.

  • I had heard of the numbering idea, but wasn't really thinking about using that tip till now.  I'm glad the postmark is unique enough!
  • Yeah i bought the blacklight pens online for wicked cheap they just took forever to some in. I'll probably be using them in a week or so.

  • Why is everyone sending out their invites so early?

We are numbering our RSVP cards to avoid this, although I think its ridiculous that people would send them back without their names!

We will be sending ours out 8 weeks before our wedding because I don't want people to forget that they RSVPed if they get our invite 3 months before lol.

We mailed ours out at the 12 week mark.  Yes it is a little bit on the early side but 85% of our guests are OOT and by OOT I mean they live across the country or in another country.   With plane tickets on the rise for summer travel we felt it wise to mail earlier rather than later.   So far none of our guests have commented that we mailed them too soon.  Most seem thankful that we sent them when we did.

  • OMG! Thanks for this post! I hadn't even thought of this happening either and will be sure to do the numbering system, great idea!

  • We're having email RSVP. The mail in South Africa is shocking and I have friends and family all over the world. Our invites are going out this week! Each invite has a unique URL for RSVPing. Kinda like our numbers LOL.
