Italy/Switzerland

It's becoming funny how indecisive I am about my honeymoon. Is anyone doing Italy and/or Switzerland? What does your itinerary look like? Budget?

Re: Italy/Switzerland

  • We're doing this exact trip for our honeymoon, 2 weeks in Italy and Switzerland.  We are flying into Rome (2 days), moving up to Florence & Tuscany(4 days), then to Cinque Terre(2 days), then to Murren(4 days), and flying back home out of Zurich.  The only part of the trip I'm unsure about is the 4 days in Florence/Tuscany.  I don't know if we should just stay in Florence and take day trips to various hilltowns, or if we should spend a couple nights in Florence and a couple nights somewhere more secluded.  Any tips? Can't wait!
  • BBride... 2 days in Rome is tight. There is simply too much to see to cover it in only two days. If you can squeeze one more day in there I would. If not, be sure to see the Forum and Colliseum and if you are going during busy season, consider a Roma Pass to help you skip lines to get in! 4 days in the Tuscany region is great b/c you'll want 2 day in florence and then the other two days you could do a day trip to wine country/ tuscun countryside...

I recomment staying in tuscany in one of the beautiful vinyards, castles, agitourismos, etc in the hills. You will already have a taste of city life by visiting rome. When I went I stayed in Greve in Chianti near a magical castle town of Montefiorralle. It was not a far drive from Florence for a visit.  You will have a car right?  You can do Florence in a day.  Maybe you can even stay in Sienna.  I haven't been but it looks amazing.

Its possible to organize a driver to do a tour for you.  I did this a couple of years ago and it very reasonably prices.  They picked us up at our hotel and we went to a castle in chianti and got a winery tour with one of the best lunches we ever had, we also visited a couple other castle/wineries. Feel free to message me if you want more information. I've been to italy quite a few times.

For the OP I also recommend venice and the amalfi coast.
