Wedding Woes

Tuesday

Is everyone back today?  10.5 hours yesterday was painful with no action here and the internet being pretty much dead.

Both my kids didn't sleep well last night at all.  They were both puttering around at all hours.  DefConn got in bed with me super early (like before midnight and he typically shows up at 3am).   But they both got on the bus and went to school today!!  YAY!  It's so quiet.

DH and I talked over the weekend and I think we're not going to do a big summer vacation this year.  We're planning a fall break trip.  But we think we're going to do some long weekends.  We may see about a rental up on Lake Michigan this summer.  DH and the kiddo are planning a cross-country road trip to CA too.  I'm hoping I can get some traction on a girl's weekend with some friends.

Re: Tuesday

  • We're back to normal today, too.  The kids were ready to get back to school and see their friends.  Now I'm surveying every room, trying to decide where to start.  I think I'm just going to start with all the xmas décor.  But first, breakfast and a little DVR catch-up.

  • I'm back to the daily grind.  Boo.

I got some gardening in yesterday before the monsoon arrived (rain gauge said half an inch between last night and this morning), and something nasty managed to bite my hand through my glove and three of my fingers swelled up like tiny sausages.  My hand is still pretty tender today, still a little swollen and red, and itchy as hell.  But half of my bulbs are planted.  Hopefully they don't get washed away.  Positivity!

This morning, Hiccup found a mud puddle, decided it would be lovely to roll in it, and then shook herself dry in the kitchen before I could catch her.  I decided that was my cue to leave for work.

Oh, well.... I need to clean the house, anyway.

  • Well my lingering cough is bronchitis. I finally went to the clinic because my doctor was booked for days, and its bronchitis. Super fun.

Other than that I'm working from home on a paper that I'm way behind on and ignoring the fact that we start classes again in one week.

Kids don't go back until tomorrow.  Well, 6let goes tomorrow.  It's M2's Wednesday off so she goes back Thursday and Max doesn't start until then too.  I don't have Bible study this week so I'm spending that 2 hours reading and getting a haircut.

Going through resumes is both funny and sad.
  • Yep, back at work today.  My first thought as I walked through the door, "God, I hate this place."  I really don't, I just miss the freedom.

Just for the cherry on top.  Usually my office is very comfortable, temp-wise, but it is cold today.  Apparently a bad day to wear open-toed shoes.  My poor little feet are freezing.

  • I'm back today too. On the bright side, baby is due in about 45 days so I'm only that far away from 6-8 weeks away from here.

Mouse has caught another cold. Which means that I have caught another cold. I was just getting over the last one! Grr.

I went to my mom's Sunday and made lunch for her, her husband, my brother and his wife. While I was cooking, mom came in and told me how much she appreciated it because her husband hasn't been feeding her well. She had cooked some pork chops and stuffing before she went to have her surgery on December 7th; they had leftovers, he tried to feed them to her last week. The arthritis in his back has flared up so any time she asks for help, he whines about his back hurting. He's been trying to get her to do things she's been instructed not to do. It's gotten so bad that she's considered checking into a long term care facility.
  • I'm back too. Didn't want to be, but I am.

DH's cousin and his wife were no-shows this weekend, which kind of confirms some of my suspicions about the whole situation. DH called the wife on Friday and told her that she would not be able to see his dad's medication list and medical history unless he was there with her. Since he wouldn't be available Saturday morning to go, he told her they needed to reschedule for Monday. She acted all cool about it, but when DH called her Sunday night to confirm details they suddenly couldn't make it anymore. I don't know what her plan was, but the whole thing makes me think she had something up her sleeve and when she found out that her visit would be supervised by DH she lost interest. The whole thing was just suspicious to me anyways. At least I didn't have to entertain them :D

When I posted yesterday I forgot to mention that I lost 2 lbs doing that 3 day detox last week! I'm so proud of myself. Post-detox I'm doing a pretty decent job at making healthier eating choices so far. After seeing results and feeling so much better I'm definitely motivated to keep it up!

  • I'm back today, but I only have a 2 day week. Which is good, because things in this office are BAD.

My new partner is terrible. He's mean, he's gossipy, the patients hate him. And he's super paranoid. Always wanting to know what everyone else is doing. He called me Friday to ask me why I had a "secret" meeting on Thursday. Um...none of your business, that's why.

  • @heffalump  Did you ever update how things went with room dad?  If so I missed it
  • DSC - Sorry to hear about your mom and her unhelpful H.  He sounds like a bit of a jerk.  Hope Mouse feels better soon and you can stay away from this round!

I am back to work today too.  I need to get the remaining time into our system before noon and as usual, I am slacking!  I have about a week of billing to go.  But instead of finishing it up quick, I am on TK!

We booked our Babymoon this weekend!  We are going to Charleston for 4 nights later in the month.  We are able to utilize hotel points, so we will only pay for 1 night.  We won't need a car while there either.  We also got a cheap-y flight, but its out of Newark instead of Philly, so we will have to do a bit of driving just to get to the airport first.

We got the last coat of paint on the bathroom walls and H was able to measure out how we will lay the concrete board for the tile.  We are so getting to the home stretch of this bathroom!  The tiling will be a challenge since neither of us have ever done it though.  H's co-worker had a wet saw for us to borrow though.

I was also able to stay up for the ball drop on NYs, so I call that a win!

  • I am back today.  I really enjoyed my time off, much more than usual.  I went to the studio literally every day and worked out or took a yoga class.  It was fantastic.  We also got a new foster dog who was living in an abandoned car on a hoarder's property with 6 other pups.  I got to spend a ton of time with him getting him used to humans so that was awesome.  I wish I could not work for a living.  I would do all kinds of cool stuff like that all the time!

School was out for winter break at 2:00 on 12/20, and he showed up at 2:15 and gave her something.  Other than that, I don't know.
  • I slept in until 8:30am.  It felt so great.  I've only been up for an hour, but I have all this energy right now.  I already went to the grocery store (just picked up a few things) and now I'm about to start de-christmasing the house.

DH is also off.  He is still in bed.  We plan on having a date night tonight.   I love that I do not "have" to be any where tonight.   Even if we cancel going out on date night I will be just fine.    Problem is neither one of us wants to cook.   Not surprising since we both work in restaurants and got our asses kicked the last few weeks.

"Plotting your overthrow, why do you ask?"

I'm back.  It was a good break, so I'm trying to focus on that, and not the bummedness of being back at work.

Christmas stuff is all put away, house is tidy.

So y'all know I was browsing dresses last week.  I texted my brother to see if there was a dress code:  I know the bride's family is Pakistani Muslim, but I really don't know how observant, if my shoulders need to be covered, etc.  So he suggested I try a Pakistani-style dress, and said "all of her friends [the Pakistani-British and Anglo friends alike] are wearing 'Stani dresses."  And he had her text me some inspiration pics.

I'm on the fence.  On the one hand, I'm like "Why not?  When am I going to get this chance again?"  On the other, I am having a heck of a time finding someplace locally, and I even started searching Atlanta.  There are tons of places online, but I'm not 100% comfortable going that route.  Even assuming they get good reviews and are not scammy, I need to see how it fits.  And I also want to say "Its a daytime wedding, I'm the sister of the groom, show me which dresses are appropriate."  Because I seriously don't know, and I don't want to show up in something too formal or casual and look ridiculous.

And on the vain side, I'm losing weight for this wedding, so loose and shapeless was my not my original plan.  I wasn't going to slut it up, but I'm hourglass shaped, so I like things that are fitted through the waist.  Which these dresses are not.  But they're pretty, so there's that.  And if I went with a Pakistani dress, I'd get Wooz one too, which makes online ordering even trickier.  But look at how pretty this is:

Seriously. Next time I'm going with "I had a meeting about the terrible new partner they stuck me with and the quickest way to get rid of him".

    That dress is adorable.

  • I honestly have no idea what his problem is (and he has them), but to totally forget the actual circumstance around the argument and its aftermath?  Just plain weird.

    He's like Eddie from Friends.

  • H has a job interview Friday!

He phoned interviewed with a company for two positions almost a month ago, one a step up from the other. He found out he didn't get the lower one because he was overqualified, but never heard definitively on the other. He keep saying it was over and he wasn't  getting anything (he's super pessimistic with work). They called yesterday and asked if he still wanted to be considered for the better job. There was some internal problem that made moving on that one in the timeline they gave him in the phone interview impossible. Well they just called and schedule an interview for Friday!

All the good thoughts and vibes to us please!
Congrats!!! Good vibes and best wishes!!!
  • I hope it goes well @charlotte989875! Let us know!

@OliveOilsMom what an odd situation. That coworker sounds like he might have a screw or two loose. Lol

  • Good luck Mr. Charlotte!

Today is my first day back.  I miss tequila.  I only have 72 emails to respond to from when I was gone, so naturally my computer stopped working this morning.  4 hours later I have it back, made my To-Do list, and decided to Knot.  Priorities.

I promised H we would start going back to the gym and doing our e-meals tonight, but I still have zero interest in working out, or cooking, or cleaning.  I was in the office all day, that's a lot of work for me lately!

Enjoy your well deserved evening off with the hubs @lyndausvi.  Have you seen/heard the stories about the $300 voucher for traveling for the USVI?  Thoughts or recommendations if I decide to take them up on it?

I am back too.  2017 went off with a terrible start

    1) woke up with an ear infection
    2) noticed southwest had a flight that would work out better for us, so I changed it, free of charge.  Found out I got the last seat at the deal so we had to pay the extra fee once we logged into DH's account to book his.  That annoyed me.
    3) went to my favorite place to eat lunch, never had a bad meal there before. Only to have......you guessed it.  A bad meal.

I was planning the cheapest way to get to my friends wedding - and it enabled me to actually leave at 5 to catch a 7:15 flight as to not spend more money on a car rental or hotel room than I needed to (her wedding starts at noon - supposedly) which I thought I could do..but then she calls me up and asks to be a bridesmaid!!! I'm honored! I also can't leave early, can I?

edit - no, her invites did not go out yet, and she's still in the early stages of planning.  She's just keeping me up to date on her thoughts and plans...that's why I said "supposedly"  as she can always change the time.  I'm a 'plan ahead' kinda person and was looking at flights/hotels/cars when she literally just asked me.

  • Good luck Mr. Charlotte!

Which island are you looking at?   Budget?   I'm bias of St John or the East end of St Thomas.      I'm just not sure what exactly the cultural tours are that you can use the $300.

That said, I love it down there.   I like snorkeling, hiking (easy hikes, not like the ones out here), boating over to the BVIs, sunset sails, day drinking and just laying on the beach doing not a damn thing.

Don't get me wrong.  I like activity driven vacations too, but sometimes it's just nice to have little plans and just relax.

  • @lyndausvi sorry didn't mean to ask a question and then bounce!

It doesn't really say what the historic or cultural activities are, just that there's a voucher and they list the participating hotels.

I have the travel bug and came across a Conde Nest article about the promotion the day after we got back from our Honeymoon and thought, well that settles that!
