Advice for: Wedding Dress Shopping

Hey lovely ladies!
I am going wedding dress shopping for my first time, this Sunday, yay!  :)
I am seeking advice on what to do/what not to do before and during the dress shopping experience!

Thank you in advance!  <3

Re: Advice for: Wedding Dress Shopping

  • - Don't bring too many people with you...I'd bring 3 max
    - when you find your dress, order it in your current size, not the size you hope to be on your wedding day
    - another for when you find your dress: if there's some detail that requires alterations (you want straps added, or an embellished belt moved to a different part on the bodice, etc.), don't take the salesperson's word for it...ask to speak with the store's head tailor or seamstress to ensure the change can be made without compromising the dress you love (and possibly only bought bc you were promised said change was possible)

  • -Minimal number of people 2 is the number to aim for..
-Wear a strapless or long-line bra.
-When it comes to budget, it's easier to go up than it is to go down.  If you tell them you don't want to spend more than $1000, they're going to bring $1000 dresses out to you.  If you tell them you want to spend between 5-600, then you've got some wiggle room for alterations, shoes, crinoline, strapless, etc.  Usually we tell brides to half their budget because it's easier to go up than it is to try on a dress slightly over your budget, fall in love with it, and nothing you try on will ever match up to it and it's something you'll never be able to afford.
-Remember this is a BUSINESS transaction, not an emotional one!  You don't need to order your dress that day to get the "deal" or "have it for your wedding in 10mo" or whatever pressure sales tactic used.  Unless your dress is next week Saturday, you've got time to really choose the dress YOU want that fits your budget.
-Veils are available from many sources, you do not need to order it from the bridal salon to have a beautiful one.  It's one of the few things that DIY or purchasing online is the way to go because of the markup.
