Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Ceremony advice

I have 3 nephews and a niece. My niece is my maid of honor and I am looking for a role for my 3 nephews since the groomsmen and Ushers are already filled. We were trying to keep the wedding party small since we are inviting under 100 people. My nephews are 22, 17 and 14.

I have a rather long walk from inside the house to the actual ceremony location in a garden. I was thinking that each nephew could assist me getting to where my Father is standing. For example one nephew could walk me from the bridal suite, down the steps to the next nephew, who then escorts me outside to the last nephew who is then responsible for taking me to my Father.

This probably sounds a bit complicated but I was thinking it was a way for them to each feel a part of things on that day.

Any thoughts on this?

Being invited to the wedding is an honor in and of itself.  Roles that would honor someone beyond that would be a reader, Bridesmaid/man or Groomsmaid/man.  Since adding three people in as readers may be overkill (unless they all do a short one!) perhaps you can make them feel special by taking some photos with them, having a dance for "nieces and nephews" if they like dancing, or just mentioning them in a line in the program (if you're having one).  Your plans don't really sound like an honor so much as an afterthought or chore and they seem a bit unnecessarily complicated, in my opinion.

  • I think it's too many handoffs.

I would ask them to be bridesmen or do short readings.
  • I doubt they care. Have them be guests.
  • I also doubt they care and won't mind not participating in a bridal relay.
  • Hi All, thank you very much for all of your help on this.
  • Get them easy a flower so they stand out as VIP guests
