My parents 50th is in August. My siblings and I have said we need to do something, but that's as far as we've gotten. Today my dad told me that they booked a cruise from Zurich to Paris and my mom was trying to book a room for a party.

I'm trying to think of ideas or something we could give as a gift. My mom always hated the pictures from her wedding. I'd love to somehow plan a photographer for Paris, but no clue how.

My mom is planning the party, but I'd like to also add something touching- a photo family tree? something else sentimental? They used to ride in a yellow convertible with another couple to go "elephant hunting" on date nights. I thought about maybe a yellow convertible to bring them to the party?

Anyone have any thoughts? I tried to pinterest and got a checklist for funeral planning or things that were for OLD PEOPLE. (Yes they're in they're 70s, but they're aren't really old).

I love the idea to get a photographer. I also love the yellow convertible taking them to the party. Those are both so thoughtful and I think they'd really be touched by them.

I love your idea to get them a photographer in Paris! Perhaps the hotel your parents are staying at could provide recommendations for a classic car chauffeur service from whom you could hire a yellow convertible & driver...

I'm liking the Paris photos better and better....especially after seeing the links from Nola. This will be the one and only time they're in Paris so I'd need to make sure they want to spend time doing that.

The other option might be a photog for the party and the yellow convertible. I'm not sure if my mom is thinking friends and family for the party, but if friends we might have to have the other couple drive. They're all still friends!

A fb friend and his wife had some amazing Paris photographs taken. I will get that photog's info and post it here later tonight (I can't fb at work).

I do know that my friend and his wife got up super early to do the photos so they would be pretty much the only people on the streets of Paris during the photos. So if that would be a problem, its something to think about. But if they have a few days at the end of their cruise, I think a few hours in the morning getting photographs taken would be a wonderful gift for them!

We had huge parties for my great grandparents and grandparents for their fiftieth anniversaries. My aunts and uncles put together photo albums of old family pictures.

I love the photographer in Paris idea. It would probably make them very happy.

I am 66, and the gifts I most appreciate are family photos.
What is your budget?
I have a collection of Hermes scarves (made in Lyons, France for Hernes of Paris) which I have gleaned off Ebay. You can easily get an authentic one in wonderful condition for under $150, and you Mom could proudly wear it on her trip. I was on a French river cruise last summer.
If you like this idea, PM me with interesting Ebay listings, and I will confirm if they are authentic or fakes. I know the difference. 99% of the listings are genuine.
