Wedding Woes

Friday

I still feel like death, so yay for that.  Our friends were supposed to come over for movie night and canceled.  I can't even muster one shred of disappointment because I probably would have canceled on them.

I hope I can start feeling better soon.  Until then, I guess chugging daquil/nyquil is the plan.

What's up for your weekend?

Re: Friday

  • Poor mrsconn!  Feel better soon.  Hopefully the Nyquil does its thing and you're all better for the weekend.

    DH had to leave early this a.m., so I got both kids up and off to school.  I'm hoping Mr. Heff will be able to knock off early as a result, fingers crossed.

    Yesterday kind of sucked here.  I was tied up in that long ass surprise webinar all morning, worked through lunch trying to get caught up, and then got stuck in a long ass afternoon meeting, too.  I have a project I've been trying to wrap up all week, so hopefully today's the day.

    DH took "my car" and my keys along with it.  I took his keys, but he has my key fob to get me into my building.  I had to slip in behind someone, like a ninja.

    Oh, and poor Wooz's five year old goldfish died.  R.I.P., Splasher.  He didn't seem sick when we left yesterday, and the water quality checked out, so I'm guessing old age?  Five seems to be on the low end of average, according to The Google.  Many tears were shed, until she saw her friends playing outside and ran to join them.  Thank goodness it's trash day, because he was easily 6", and I was afraid to flush him.
  • I think 5 years for a goldfish is a pretty good life @Heffalump. We had carnival fish that didn't even make it through the night.

    Driving to Buffalo today and interview tomorrow! All the good vibes for me please. I'm pretty nervous and hoping that somewhere along the highways between Ohio and Nee York I'll find some confidence.
  • mrsconn- I hope you feel better soon.

    Heffa- that is a damn good life for a goldfish

    CHarlotte- ALL THE LUCK!  That highway is a good stretch to think on.

    My brother was in Nicaragua last week teaching trauma protocol.  6let was asking about him today so I was telling him about what he was doing last week.  This lead to a pretty big discussion on natural resources, classes, wants/needs, roadways and infrastructures, and I don't even know what else.  I'm glad I had that second cup of coffee.

    This weekend I think we're doing a farmer's market and letting the kids spend some Christmas money, church and baseball evaluations.

    @mrsconn23 I hope you feel better!!

    @Heffalump that is an epic lifespan for a goldfish - and 6" long is enormous!

    @charlotte989875 good luck!!!

    @6fsn the farmers market sounds fun - and your brother's job sounds fascinating!

    I'm exhausted today. Rallied yesterday evening and went out to dinner with my friends. The food was decent, but I guess for a Mario Batali restaurant I was expecting better. The service however was horrendous. Thursday night in Boston is huge - and this place was packed - yet they only had one waitress for the section we were seated in that had 9 or 10 tables. Because our waitress had way too many tables, there were large gaps of time where we couldn't order the next course because she was taking other orders, delivering food to other tables, refilling water, etc. We were seated at 6, ordered apps at 6:30, the apps came out 45 minutes later, we ordered dinner at about 8:20, and didn't get out of there until about 10. I was beyond exhausted when I got home.

    I have a few things to crank on at work today, then I have my monthly half day Friday so I'm taking my car for an oil change/10K mile check-up. Looking forward to sweatpants and a nap when I get home!

    ETA: @VarunaTT congrats on your performance last night!!
  • @sparklepants41- brother is an ED doc.  He volunteers a week every year in Nicaragua.  He alternates years training and treating patients/building up an orphanage.
  • Loss of a pet is always hard, but I agree that 5 years seems like a good amount of time.

    VarunaTT, that sounds like a fantastic time!

    DH got his voting pass in the mail today (fingers crossed I'm eligible to vote in the next national election), and on my way to work I noticed a massive board went up that listed the candidates.  The man who is leading in opinion polls is Trump's fanboy, so there's that to look forward to.  He could actually give Trump a run for his money when is comes to spewing anti-Muslim/anti-immigrant/pro-Black Face bullshit (a weird thing to care passionately about, but he's really, REALLY for Black Face).  He also looks like a Malfoy, maybe not Lucius or Draco Malfoy, but definitely a relative of theirs.

    My supervisor sent me a long list of articles she wants me to read, and then postponed our phone conversation until after I've read them.  So naturally I've been on Facebook waayy too much today.

    Saturday friends are coming over, Sunday we laser-tag.
  • Y'all are kind, but 5 years isn't that much for a goldfish.  had planned on her having him for a lot longer.  He seemed like he was doing well, swimming along, doing his thing.  So I don't think he had a disease, unless it came on really fast.  The remaining Glofish seem to be fine.  Maybe it was fishy heart failure or something.
  • Sorry about Wooz's fish, Heffa. DH has a saltwater tank and his cleaner shrimp died earlier this week. RIP Oscar III.

    @charlotte989875 I can't wait to hear how the interview goes!!! You're gonna do great!

    Morning all. I'm not in the mood to be at work today. I came in this morning to a huge pile of work for the first time in months, and was told I have to get it all done today. Ummm, no. Sorry. First of all it's not humanly possible. Second of all, I really have no motivation to help anybody here out at this point. This place does nothing but cause stress for me, and I'm really not up for bending over backwards for a place that treats its employees so poorly.

    Not much going on tonight. Tomorrow I'm going to work out and make dinner for the friend that just had twins. Sunday will be church, working out, and relaxation. The weekends never last long enough. *sigh*

    @mrsconn23, hope you feel better soon.  I initially misread your post and thought you were fighting your illness with daiquiris instead of Dayquil, lol.

    @Heffalump, sorry about Splasher (love the name), poor Wooz.

    @charlotte989875, you got this!  Good luck tomorrow.

    @VarunaTT, fun!  Sounds like you rocked it!

    @Joney, your Malfoy description of that politician especially tickled my funny bone.  Hopefully a scandal will befall him and those opinion polls will turn in the opposite direction.

    As for me, after 11AM today, it will be the start of my 4-day weekend.  I've been "happy dancing" about that all day, lol.  I have a few errands to run on the way home.  And I still need to do my p/t job on Sat. and Mon. morning, but that's only about 90 minutes each day.  Other than that, I am being as hermit-like as possible and will really soak it in.

  • Sorry about Wooz's fish.  My granddaughters have a goldfish that they won at a carnival last summer.  I never thought it would live through the night after sitting in the plastic bag all day in 100 degree weather, it is now about 9 months old and at least 8 inch long, its huge! I think you just never know with fish. Seems like her friends were a good distraction anyway.

    My son and his wife and 3 kids have been living with us since June and that makes for a lot of stuff in our house.  I've decided to start organizing somehow, I can't take it anymore, toys are everywhere.  I love having them here, and its actually went well, just so much stuff. I'm using my weekend to get started. But, with other granddaughters basketball tourny and other grandson's bday party tomorrow, church sunday, I just don't know if I will get much done.  But, it MUST get done for my sanity.

    The weather is crazy here, its going to be 80 here today and in the 40's tomorrow, that's insane.  No wonder we are all sick.
  • You've got this, @charlotte989875!

    So sorry about Splasher, @Heffalump.

    Hope you feel better, @mrsconn23!

    Today is my bonus Saturday -- woo-hoo! I had breakfast with a friend and am now knotting while I wait for my 11:00 tour of an apartment complex for FMIL. After that, lunch with another friend, then going to get my license plates renewed. Tonight is thrifting and Chinese food with FW, then our Friday night meeting.

    Tomorrow I'm volunteering with the kids book bank, going to book club, meeting my sponsor, and then going to hear another friend speak at a meeting.

    Sunday's my birthday. FW and I are having brunch with my parents and visiting my Oma (her birthday is two days after mine).
  • Note: it has taken me 2 hrs to finally finish this lmao!

    @mrsconn23  feel better :( get some rest this weekend!

    @Heffalump  RIP Splasher - 5 sounds old to me for a fish though. Must've had a good life :)

    @charlotte989875  Idk why but my immediate thought was "shuffle off to Buffalo" - you'll do great, but vibes!

    @6fsn  Amazing what your brother does and wow to 6let asking all those questions :')

    @VarunaTT  Can't wait to see photos! I've only seen one 'Drag King" show. It was good - boyband style but to "Sail" by Awolnation.

    @sparklepants41  sounds like they were understaffed :( Yay for sweatpants and naps!

    @Joney booo Malfoy!

    I'm beyond tired and I have a headache AND IT'S BUSY IN THE OFFICE TODAY!!

    So basically majority of M's coworkers are job hunting. M took today off to do resume and go to resource center to help him with interviews, etc. He hasn't had an interview in 5 1/2 years, so he's a tad rusty lol

    Anyways .... we're not heavily concerned about him finding a job. We live near a huge tech park area, and with his job they tend to hire often. It's just a matter of finding somewhere that doesn't require a Masters or Bachelor degree. {he has the experience, but not the schooling}

    This weekend is kinda low key.
    Tonight I'm watching Riverdale and we're probably going to move stuff around. Either boxes to the basement, or a shelf to the basement.

    Saturday - I do wanna walk up to dollarama, and likely doing rest of cleaning. Going to see Nikki Payne {comedian - she's hilarious and slightly raunchy, so if you're into that go look her up!} with M and my mum. I'm so beyond excited lmao!

    Sunday - probably cleaning and lounging. We're going to M's mum and stepdad's place to drop chairs we borrowed and discuss the trip to the states in September. M and I basically agreed we're leaving our phones at home. M's mum is just deleting her social media for the boarder, but M doesn't want to chance it and I have a lot of social media {fb, instagram, twitter, snapchat .... lmao!}
  • I'm really annoyed right now. DS2 graduated from college last May and took a job in October about 2 hours away from us. Since Christmas we have been trying to figure out a weekend to go see him. He was very busy with his GF who is still in school about 30 mins from where he lives. We finally decided on the weekend after his birthday. We were going to come over, go out dinner for his birthday and go shopping for a present together. Well, I got a text from her this morning. She has bought him some tickets to a sporting event in our town for that weekend. She said she knew we were planning on coming over but now they were coming here. This is a surprise for DS2 so I can't say anything to him. He was really looking forward to us coming over and seeing his apartment (since he has things settled). I think she should have at least contacted us before purchasing the tickets - she is planning on them staying with us. I'm also really bummed that we aren't going to be able to celebrate his birthday because they will just be here for the game. Ugh!! Just had to vent because I can't let her know how upset I am with her right now.
  • @ILoveBeachMusic  Urg I totally get why you'd be irritated. Any time I wanna do something around M's bday, I've always asked his parents to make sure. Typically they just work around our plans, but it's a courtesy thing.
  • Oh that's so frustrating @ILoveBeachMusic. I would be super annoyed over that too. To me, it's just kind of common courtesy for her to check with y'all, especially since you already had plans.

  • that stinks @ILoveBeachMusic  I hope she just wasn't thinking, or was thinking oh we will travel to them that is even better but she definitely should have asked first since you guys had plans
  • Thanks y'all. I just needed to vent and be told I wasn't being nuts thinking she should've checked with us first. I always try and get along with my kids' SOs. Luckily, so far, there haven't been any huge red flags with any of them. I wouldn't ever want my kids to think they have to choose between parents and SOs.  Feeling much better now!
