Wedding Woes

Week...just...politics

So we fired missiles on Syria.

Bannon has been removed from the NSC.

Gorsuch is most likely going to get confirmed.

The picture of a boy in the mountains was replaced with a coal seam on the Bureau of Land Management.

I feel like we're on a psychotic merry-go-round.

  • Also Kushner didn't disclose meetings with Russians.

Nunes is rescuing himself from the investigations.
  • And **Big Shocker** Trump thinks O'Reilly did nothing wrong.

  • Unfortunately I don't have faith that whoever takes nunes's spot will be any better.

  • I'm actually glad they bombed the Syrian airbase. Seriously fuck the Asaad government for targeting their own innocent civilians and children (not rebels) with chemical weapons.

I'm pretty terrified that Republicans changed the Senate rules to just need a simple majority to push a Supreme Court justice through. That is messed up. It's the highest court in the land! And what's to stop them from changing the rules to do this with laws as well. IMO this significantly deepens the "us vs. them" divide and basically eliminates the need for parties to work together.
I have conflicted feelings about the bombing. I'm mostly terrified because we have someone so incredibly incompetent in charge.

The surpreme court thing both terrifies and angers me. And how the fuck are they still pushing through a Supreme Court justice nomination when the current administration is embroiled in a investigation?! This is a permanent life position, with extreme consequences. It speaks volumes that a) they changed the rules because they knew a vote wouldn't do it for them, b) that they are seemingly ignoring the huge issue of the investigation. The Republican Party clearly doesn't care about anything other than their own self intersts and what they can force through.

And I love how mega donors aren't even being quiet now about how they expect their money to influence congress/the White House. We're fucking imploding. Good job, America. You fucked it up in less than 250 years. That's a blip on the civilization scale.

  • My issue with the bombing is that there is always civilian "collateral".  and it's pretty fucking ironic that we're bombing a country, which will create more innocent refugees, and refusing entry to said same refugees.  This administration has no goddamn idea how military actions actually work beyond the military plans.  And even if we did have people in the government/military who knew it, they've probably been fired, the position is empty, or it's filled with an absolute incompetent person who doesn't know how to do their job.  This was literally the easiest decision America could've made.  We're damn good with our guns...not so much on anything else in foreign policy.

Yes. All of this. Because you can bet that Trump isn't going to be like "all of this is awful, we'll take Syrian refugees now!" He's probably going to go the opposite direction and say that now there will be "terrorists" who "really really want to hurt us--you know, bad people, really bad people, who don't like that we've MAGA and showed them our power."

And I just read that Russia is pissed. Duh. Which I wouldn't care about except for the potential for WWIII. Although part of me wonders if it is just posturing, and if Russia's ultimate goal is to take over Syria once the Assad regime has ended.

  • On the bombing; what comes next? (Also all my comments will be in Hamilton quotes). But really how does this play out? We're not going to push to remove Assad, Russia is backing him so there is or going to be strong action to push for any changes. Also we've been backing the rebels for years. We already have troops on the ground there and there is no clear goal for our engagement.

The pictures of the children are horrific, but this has been happening since 2011.

Yes. I am astounded by all of the people who are just now like "well this is terrible." Really? It wasn't terrible before when hundreds of children were being slaughtered? When the last real hospital fell? When innocent civilians have been caught in the crossfire for years? When a dead toddler washed up on the beach? Gtfo.

  • I support the idea of bombing Syria...back in 2013 and today. I'm mad at congresspeople who celebrate the decision today but voted against it; but I'm not mad at Trump for his flip flop. It's easy to promise to be anti global affairs when your desk isn't in the Oval Office and you're not privy to intelligence. I'm majorly concerned that it seems to have done absolutely nothing as the airbase is back and running. I've also heard rumors we collaborated with Russia to ensure it was ineffective but good for TV and that worries me.

I'm also not that pissed about Gorsuch. Yes the GOP outmanurvered the Dems and it worked. Get over it, the general public doesn't care as much as the base does so it's a gainless fight. He's not my ideal Justice, but he could be worse. And the fact that the sitting SCOTUS overturned one of his rulings during his hearings with only 2 dissenters is a positive.

  • Ooh and there are rumors of Priebus being ousted!  Which I celebrate because he makes my skin crawl but sad because it should be Bannon.
