Help!! I am so lost on what to do!!

Hi,
I got engaged in January of 2012 and so lost on what to do to start planing our wedding. It doesn't look like I am getting my dream outdoor wedding. I live in a small town called Florence wisconsin and have no idea were to have my ceremony and 't Reception. I really wanted a outdoor wedding. But I don't think that is going to happen. The ideas of places we looked at are a ski lodge but we have to provide everything and decorate which I think would be fun. But my grandma likes the idea of a ballroom which does all the planing and decorating. What to do!!! I wish I could just have a destination but my financies grandma wouldn't make it then and her bieng there is very important to him. I know it will all work out. It is just hard to know were to start and my mom lives five hours away and I don't see her often which makes it hard to envolve her when I want her involved. Hope the advice I am looking for makes sense. Thank you for your time and help.

  • I think looking in Eagle River will be a great place to start. I googled "Wedding Venues near Florence, WI" and thats what came up closest. Eagle Waters Resort was the first option for outdoor weddings. Don't give up on your outdoor wedding yet.. maybe consider having a "mini-destination" wedding, meaning do it in WI (maybe Green Bay or the Dells) where your family/grandma might still be able to get? That might open from doors for you. Either way, good luck!

  • My mom was nearly 5 hours away, too.  We did a lot of phone calls with both of us in front of the computer looking at the same webpages.  When we went to the florist, we called her and put her on speakerphone and the consultant directed her to pages on their website.  She was able to visit a couple times while we were planning - she went dress shopping with me on one, was able to check out the venue, we ate at the restaurant that catered for us, etc.  We needed to think a little differently on how she could stay involved and had to plan our visits, but everything worked out fine.

  • I mapped your city and it appears Iron Mountain, MI is close.  Looking off the map, there is Pine Grove Country Club, Timberstone Golf Course, Spread Eagle Barrens State Natural Area, Pine Mountain Resort, and here's a park pavillion there for rental: http://www.cityofironmountain.com/index.aspx?nid=456

In Iron River, MI - there appears to be Iron River Country Club & Bewabic State park.

Just slow down & do some research. It will all come together.  I know how overwhelming it is at first when you have ALL options open to consider.  Try to stick with your vision and you will likely be able to pull off some version of it!

  • Thank you so much everyone for all your help. I will look those places up and keep your ideas in mind. Thanks agian I appreciate it a lot.

  • I have actually been to Eagle Waters Resort, not for a wedding but for brunch. That place is gorgeous!!! I would just be cautious of the summer months in Eagle River, it is a zoo! We are usually there before Memorial Day and after Labor Day, then it isn't nearly as bad.

  • Eagle  waters Resort does look like a beautiful place but it is to far away from were we live to have our wedding. I wish it was closer.
