I know knotties always preach about just wearing a dress and showing up not drunk. However, If I want to go above and beyond what would I be doing?

For some background I am MOH for my 52 year old mother. This will be her 4th marriage. She is recently divorced.

I did some googling and I am stuck. Not sure if it's appropriate for me to throw a bridal shower. I really like her fiance and I am happy for them. They are great for each other.

Talk to your mom directly and find out what her plans are and where she could use help.

I don't think a shower would be appropriate, but you could offer to host a non-gift giving party like a ladies' luncheon or tea.

I would ask her to let you know if she wants help with anything. I've been MOH twice and did the following:

-Co-hosted shower (provided some of the food and games and prizes)
-Hosted bachelorette (decorated, provided food, provided games and prizes) (first wedding only)
-Helped decorate venue
-Helped take down and cleanup after venue
-Helped with cooking, setup and cleanup for rehearsal dinner (second wedding only)
-Altered my dress (second wedding only)

What does your Mom want? Some ladies want a full blowout wedding. Others want simple and private. You need to ask her what she wants. My own mother wanted a huge wedding with all the trimmings including displaying my singing and performing. (One of the BAD memories of my life!) My grandmother was shocked and disgusted because back in HER day, 2nd weddings were supposed to be quiet and private. (Mom was really pushing the envelope in 1970.) There are many different ideas. Find out what your mother wants. I'm sure you can think of lots of ways to help.

A shower or a bachelorette party would not be appropriate. I hope your Mom has a wonderful wedding day.
