I Need Advice! Floral Wreath for My Hair?

Hi ladies! I need your help desperately!

I have been looking at hairstyles for my upcoming wedding and I am repeatedly drawn to pictures where the hair is down in loose curls with a small floral wreath. Are these as out of style as they seem to be? I can barely find pictures of brides with them instead of flower girls, which makes me feel like I should find another style. Maybe like a laurel-wreath-inspired headband or something?

My wedding will be outside in the fall in a garden-ish setting, fairly formal - since my man has decided he wants to wear tails  :)  Would the floral wreath match in formality?

Also, I have already purchased a fingertip veil. Can I wear a floral wreath with a fingertip veil? Is that too much accessorizing??

Someone help!! Aaaaahhh!

  • A floral wreath feels very casual for a wedding where the groom is in tails

What about finding a metal headband that has a floral motif?  Like, an open wirework one that is viney and flowery?  That would be beautiful witih a veil, IMHO.  (You can probably find beautiful examples on etsy and pinterest)
  • I am having a Hawaiian lei on my head for my Hawaiian wedding so there are many brides with these on Hawaiian websites. There is a pic of one in my bio!

  • It could look more formal if you wear it with a veil. I'm wearing my mother's veil, and it's a floral band across the top, with pearls and a veil across the back - very different from anything else I've seen, even other brides from the time she got married. I thought it would look too dated, but once I put it on with a modern dress it looked fine. You should be good so long as you don't wear an older-style dress, too.

I think just the flowers might be too casual, but if you paired it with a veil you should be good to go.

  • I say this with love and kindness, but I haven't seen a bride wear a floral wreath in her hair since the 80s, which could be why you're having trouble finding modern photographs.
  • I've seen some pictures of brides with floral wreath headpieces, and they look very earthy and ethereal. I think it would go great in a garden setting, but it depends on the style of your dress IMO. I will say that I somewhat agree with jennylove810, because my mom wore a small floral wreath with a veil in '83. With that said, I have seen some pictures recently of brides with them and they (can) look beautiful.

  • Thanks to everyone for your thoughts!

After more research and consideration, I think I will go with another hairstyle. I do feel, as jennylove810 said, that they are a bit outdated for a typical wedding. I think it would be really difficult for it to be done properly so that it looks modern, formal and not hippie-ish.

However, for ladies out there doing a more casual garden wedding with maybe a boho feel, I think it would work well. Or, as jtoly said, it would fit a tropical theme too!
  • Garden wedding and flowy floral wreath sounds perfect. Do you know if you're looking for a white wreath? or something with natural looking flowers? Do you still want a veil?
  • You may have just been searching for the wrong terms.  "Bride with flower crown" brought TONS of hits.
