Wedding Woes

I think it's Thursday

But I'm not really sure since I worked from home part of this week. H went to look at houses last night and one is a possibility. He likes it without saying that he likes it. He keeps saying "it's intriguing". It's a bigger house (than what we had previously) in a great neighborhood. It definitely needs some work, and there are some odd layout choices, but it has a huge yard (almost 2 acres), it's in a great school district, the entire second floor is a master bedroom suite with a fireplace, and has a fireplace. We're going to see it a second time this weekend.

Re: I think it's Thursday

  • DH is home today...supposedly dying from the cold I had last week (which I survived and kept a full schedule too).  He's supposedly going to work from home, but so far I've seen a lot of laying on the couch and watching Netflix.  *sigh*  I love him, so much (I keep telling myself). :D

It's going to be 60 today, but rainy.  I'd rather it be 25 and sunny with snow on the ground so we could bundle up and be outside.

We have zero weekend plans.  This pleases me.  ;)

    Prudie coming up soon.  :)

@charlotte989875, ooooh an entire floor for the master bedroom! That does sound intriguing! Just remember with 2 acres....who's going to do the lawnwork?
@mrsconn23, the way your H "works from home" is exactly how I "work from home". lol

Last night I went to pick out the paint colors and ordered sheets/comforter set from amazon (because who has time for brick & mortar?). I so can't wait till it's all put together.  I was channeling my inner Christina El Moussa (flip or flop) with grays, whites and light blues.

  • It's almost 70 here and it's glorious.  It's supposed to snow on Saturday.  I'll never understand weather.

K was surprised by flowers, the good conversation hearts, and the nice bottle of wine.   I'm getting better about this stuff.  I keep reminding myself that I was with exH for 16 years, it's going to take time for habits to change and walls to come down.  This Sunday is 2 years of the divorce to be final.  I honestly can't believe how much my life has changed and how impossibly better it is.  Not just romantically, but personally overall.  It was the right decision and I haven't regretted it, had second thoughts, or missed anything about exH, in any moment since leaving.  Which is both satisfying and sad, really.

Other than that, SSDD.  This semester with K's school is really hard, but they're doing awesome at school.

HA.  He worked from home on Friday and actually worked.  So he can do it.  I know he feels crappy (I'm still not completely over the cold), but it's not stopping my eyes from rolling out of my head.  ;)
  • @charlotte989875 He's probably saying 'intriguing' so not to get hopes up. Hopefully it ends up being as great as it sounds :)

    @mrsconn23 man cold ;)

I went home expecting nothing. We're doing dinner Sunday - which I had M make reservations for because I kept dropping the ball on that :| the hours are weird - and it'll be a nice one too :) We have gift cards, so it probably won't be much out-of-pocket.

    Anyways, M ended up making dinner with my indigestion in mind. He made a somewhat stir-fry of basmati rice, extra lean ground beef, veggies mixed with orange-ginger sauce. {he said he opted to not make it since when he makes it, it often tastes 'too gingery' for my liking}
I swear, it's one of the few meals that I haven't whined about indigestion afterwards! He got 2 bottles of the sauce, so we'll be doing more stirfries with it ;)
He used instant pot for rice. This was the first time, so he got a little frustrated with it but it worked out!
I have left overs for lunch. We have a bunch at home also. Mmmm

Doing groceries tonight, and finding out if we're picking up paint AND the crib, or just the paint tomorrow.
I think I may try to get M to clean up the basement as well ... we need to bring stuff down when we paint, so worth a shot.

Long weekend for us also :) Family Day on Monday. Retail is closed, so I'll probably practice driving.

Keep in mind, as long as a wall isn't load bearing, they're easy and fairly cheap to take down.  The potentially harder part is what to do with floors/wall that now may not match.  I've never taken down a wall in one of my renovations...but I've always wanted to (gleefully rubbing hands together), lol.  It's something I keep in mind whenever I'm looking at a house with a weird layout.  That was a plan for the personal home I was originally under contract for (but didn't purchase).  The upstairs had three normal sized bedrooms, but no master.  We were going to blow out the wall between two of the bedrooms to make a larger bedroom for ourselves.

An entire floor that is a master suite AND has a fireplace sounds outstanding!

My H and I did nothing at all for V-day yesterday.  Other than making a plan to pretend it is on Friday or Saturday, lol.  I was irritated that he didn't appear to have done much on our tenant side yesterday.  I, on the other hand, spent over an hour when I got home from work hauling stuff out to the curb and throwing things away.  He did a little of that with me and started the repair on the larger hole in the wall.  I told him he needs to step it up...BIG TIME...today.  I cleared everything out, except the kitchen and bits and pieces of furniture.  The kitchen I will tackle tonight.

This morning, most of the stuff on the curb was gone.  Yay!  I also didn't notice until yesterday, but they left both of their bikes also.  They're not valuable bikes, but we might be able to score $20-$30 each for them.

have fun picking everything out!  wait, retail shops are closed?  In the U.S. most stores are having President's Day sales! I guess that's the difference between family day and president's day.  Family means to spend time with family and the founding forefathers would have wanted us to stimulate the economy!

  • @CharmedPam Family day is pretty new, like maybe 5yrs ago it started?
It started partly because our city is very government heavy, so a lot of them are off during xmas where as retail is open.
So to give them a day with family to do things, they close malls.
It works best for our city because Winterlude is on during this time, so you can go wander the canal and check out ice sculptures.
  • @charlotte989875 that house sounds like a good find! Keep us posted!

@VarunaTT I'm curious to know what "the good conversation hearts" are?

@MissKittyDanger I love that Canada has a Family Day! Good luck with your driving practice! Automatic or manual?

Yesterday H surprised me with a lovely bottle of Chardonnay, a huge bouquet of tulips, and some chocolate-dipped strawberries from Whole Foods. Yum. I had ordered him a really nifty Phish hoodie, but it hit a shipping snafu, so he will get it next week. I can't wait to see his reaction!

Today I am expecting edits to a draft I sent out yesterday and will be sending out a final draft this afternoon. And the prototype of my super creative project came in! Aside from some QA/QC issues with the binding, it looks great! I am super pleased.

Other than that, SSDD. I'm already hungry. What's for lunch?

I just learned today that Family Day is on Monday. I live near a mountain that is a popular ski destination for Canadians and we have Canadian flags lining the main street in our town. Someone on FB asked what they were for and said it was for Family Day in Canada and that apparently a lot of Canadians will be in town skiing for the long weekend.

@charlotte989875 I have a friend whose home is three stories and the entire third story is their master suite, complete with a two-sided fireplace that separates the bedroom from the bathroom. That is my dream bedroom.
  • @sparklepants41 Automatic! Lol M can't drive manual {he wants to though} and I'm still basically doing my learners {G1 for us - ie; can't drive without fully licensed driver} My plan is to take driving school and get my G2 {can drive alone, with certain restrictions} soon

  • Anyways, M ended up making dinner with my indigestion in mind. He made a somewhat stir-fry of basmati rice, extra lean ground beef, veggies mixed with orange-ginger sauce. {he said he opted to not make it since when he makes it, it often tastes 'too gingery' for my liking}

Over the weekend, I came across a stir-fry recipe that used a pack of ramen noodles.  I was intrigued because to me, ramen noodles=easy.

It was easy, fairly quick, and surprisingly yummy.  We had some leftover pork in the fridge that I cut into strips.  Some leftover large pieces of cut-up onions and a bell pepper.  I cooked the pork first until it lost most of the pink.  Threw in two cups of water and 3 packs of ramen noodles and their seasoning packs with a splash of soy sauce.  Got the water to boiling.  Threw in the veggies.  Occasionally stirred while I waited for the water to boil off.

The only negative was it came out too salty, but was still good.  When I make it again, I'm only going to use 1-2 seasoning packs and then add in some of my own.  Like 5-spice.

H, and he will love it ;) He worked for a landscaper in college so he's got some talent at building gardens and patios. Someone will have learn how to tend to the garden.

    This is my favorite part.

On the layout thing; the good part is that it looks like some walls were actually added after the home was built so it's (likely) possible we could take them down. The garage and one room was an addition, too so we have some options.

    Sounds good actually.
If you find it too salty, you could do what I often do - if you use 2 packs of noodles, only use 1 seasoning. And wait for soy sauce until after you taste {that shit is great but packs the salt omg} We're not big on salt, so we've moderated a lot of meals that include salty things :)

It's really becoming a lost art in North America!  My car is a manual because she's a little sporty girl and manuals are better for that.

However, I often use valets for mystery shops and when I go to Harrahs casino.  I've often encountered delays because they have to wait for the "only person on shift who can drive a manual", smh.  That's VALETS!!!  People who drive cars for a living.  And many of them apparently can't drive a manual.  Which I'll assume is because it doesn't come up that often.

As an aside, ie brag lol, I caught an article titled "The 10 fastest cars with a base price under $25K".  The "fast" was referring to the length of time it takes to go from 0-60.  My MINI Cooper baby was #2 ;).

  • Ugh, man cold. SO had it two weeks ago and omg so dramatic. His sneezes were beyond ridiculous.

Valentine’s Day was okay. I made a nice dinner and SO gave me some chocolate and a little book. He hurt his back so we couldn’t really do anything other than sit and watch tv. I was exhausted though so it worked.

PT today, then studying and cleaning the house. SO is WFH today so we’ll see if anything gets done.

Family Day started because the Government realized that there wasn't a significant stat holiday for time off between New Year's Day and Good Friday (which can fall in April) so they made a Stat in February. It's nice. I can get some stuff done.

We're going to see Black Panther this weekend and have an actual date night (Boy is going to Grandma's). I'm excited for margaritas and movie.
  • @VarunaTT I'm curious to know what "the good conversation hearts" are?
I had to go to an actual candy store to get them and they're sold in bulk, but they're made by NECCO, rather than Brach's.  They have actual flavor than sweet chalk tasting.
  • The kids don't have school tomorrow so my parents are picking up the kids tonight and keeping them until Saturday.

I was going to do some errands tomorrow, but am rethinking it.  There were two officers murdered in the line of duty Saturday. The funeral is tomorrow.  Based on which church I have feeling they be using the cemetery ~1 mile from my house.  Last time they had an officer burial there we couldn't really get out of the neighborhood and I have a feeling this will be even bigger.

Friday night we have reservations and McCormick and Schmick's.  Saturday am a reservation to sleep in!!  Then basketball, church, basketball, and a dinner for FIL.

Then it's Monday again and there's no school. M2 has a soccer tournament, but I don't know about the rest of the kids....

My coworker and her husband {both early 40s} both grew up learning on manual, and when he got a new vehicle he ensured it was a manual.

There's very few driving classes that teach on manual here also, so in the end it may just be a dying breed :\

LOL. I once was asked by a valet if I could park my own car because he couldn't drive stick. I gave him a "Really?!" McKayla Moroney-type look, parked my own car, and then upon giving him the keys told him I hoped I would not be charged for valet that evening.

I'm in my early mid 40s, (sigh) typed "early" and then realized that 44 makes me mid, lol.  So anyway, I've been buying used cars at various times over the last 25 years.  In my time, automatic has always been the vast majority of cars.  But on the earlier end of that spectrum, it also wasn't unusual to see manual transmission cars.  Roughly 20-30%.  Now, it seems fairly rare to see them for sale.

I could be wrong, but I think a lot of makes and models stopped being produced with a manual transmission choice (in N. America) a long time ago.

When I was 19, I bought my first used car.  After a lot of research, I decided I wanted a Geo Metro.  A manual transmission was a dealbreaker because I didn't know how to drive one.  And then I found one that had a price to good to be true.  But it was a manual.  My b/f at the time did the test drive, since I couldn't, lol.  I bought it and then I learned.

When researching MINIs, also was looking for used, I read in a few places that the manual transmission was the better choice for this car than the automatic.  The manual wasn't a dealbreaker, but it was an extra bonus that the one I found was both the exact color* I wanted and also a manual.

*OMG, I was astounded at how many colors the MINIs can come in.  I think there were something like 24 color choices.

Valentine's day was low key but DH bought me a dozen roses which was a really sweet surprise.   I got him nothing but a foot rub.

same here. His fun car is a manual and his daily driver was too until he got his new one last year. My first car was a stick so I can drive one, however I'm not comfortable doing it since I don't drive one ever. I was glad his new car was an automatic since i've had to drive it a couple times.
