Sunday Part 2

And it’s sunny and pretty out!  I’m off today, and hoping Monday off becomes the new norm in our busy season. I actually had a woman request a discount because her late June party “was early in the season.”  Lady, we had 7 events last weekend and another 6 this weekend. Our season starts in April and we have at least one event in the books for every weekend through November except Labor Day.

Weekend was good. Worked Saturday, door knocked with the hubs yesterday. First door was an adamant anti-vaxxer  who only votes for vaccine freedom candidates and still kept me for 10 minutes to talk about other issues.  Tonight, I’m going to two events with him. I may go to the mall before hand in search of a pair of high waisted, wide leg black pants.

Re: Sunday Part 2

  • LOL how is June early in the season?

My vacation was wonderful.  Victoria and Vancouver were absolutely GORGEOUS and I can see why people want to live there (while San Diego had the shittiest weather I ever have seen!)

anyway,  poll:  You find out that someone you work with is going to Vegas, you give them $20 to put on a roulette number.  They come back, being as honest as they are, and give you the $700 return on it.  What do you do (for them as a thank you)?
also, you probably don't know this about them, but this person who did that for you doesn't really like you all that much. :)

I'd buy them lunch or something. Nothing big, but that was really nice of them to be honest!

I had a good weekend. Got a lot done while being able to relax and recharge too. I went to my first weight watchers meeting, which has been giving me a ton of anxiety. But I did it!

BIL, GF & nephew came over on Friday which was really nice. I'm glad H's siblings seem to want a better relationship with him/us too.

We grilled last night, we're grilling tonight and probably grilling tomorrow. Yay clean-ish kitchen!

how much of the share?  and yeah, you like this person.  Or at least act  it.

  • @CharmedPam I think lunch would be a nice gesture. Glad to hear you enjoyed your vacation!

Monday again with lots to do in the office before leaving for vacation on Friday. We have a finalist presentation on Wednesday afternoon that I need to prep for and finalize materials. Thursday we're volunteering at the YMCA as an office so I'll be out all day. This means that I need to get all of my work done between now and Wednesday morning. Plus I still have to pack for vacation and prep around the house for the dog sitter. This will be the first vacation I'm truly looking forward to since getting our dog, because we have someone coming to stay at our house for the week, rather than boarding him. Every time we board him, he gets massively sick from anxiety and it ultimately results in a trip to the vet once we get home. This time he gets to stay in his own home with no other dogs barking all day, which I'm hoping helps.
  • My weekend was amazing! It was great being back in the city and seeing all of my friends. The weather was perfect and I walked everywhere. I did a long run in Central Park Friday and it was fantastic (although the park is a lot hillier than I remember).

Saturday was margaritas and friends and it was perfect. So much fun!

Now I'm back at work and things are busy! But I really could get used to three day weekends.

@charmedpam wow what an honest person! I think I'm pretty honest but I might have a hard time giving up the $700 especially if my own gambling hadn't gone well.

@6fsn you've been running, right? Show off those legs! I had someone compliment my calves and achilles before - LOL. He was like that's the most defined achilles I've ever seen and I'm all uhhhh thanks?

For me, I'm trying to figure out how to price stuff for a garage sale in a couple of weeks. I want to price it low enough so it sells but don't want to leave a bunch of money on the table. What you would price clothes for brands like Express and Limited dressy and casual pants and tops. It's all in really good condition but I'm not sure if that makes it $2 or $5 or what. Also have some of my H's polos and stuff - I've sold some of his on Marketplace for $5-6 each for name brands.

My husband must be bored. He just sent me a spreadsheet to cover activities this week.

@kvruns last time I did a garage sale I simultaneously posted to Facebook pages. I made more from Facebook. You might consider doing one piece for $3 and 2 for $5

Yea I've been trying to list my stuff now on FB before the sale bc I feel like I can charge more on FB. I just listed some stuff last night that I'd totally forgotten about so hoping some will sell.

I've sold most of my baby stuff on FB, I have some winter stuff but I think I'm just going to wait to sell on FB this fall
  • Like @6fsn I was thinking $50, plus you don't have to fake your way through lunch!

I need advice on a client-the client is an elderly lady who works for the same municipality that owns the venue I manage.  I chalked up the first two mistakes to age, but after this last one my boss wants me to mention it to someone.

    1.  She called the day after we spoke on the phone to schedule an in person meeting and complained to my boss that she couldn't reach me for weeks.

    2.  We met a few weeks after that initial in-person meeting, and she forgot we had met in person to discuss the details.

    3.  We spoke today.  Her event is Friday the 11th, her contract in her handwriting says the 11th.  Everything says the 11th.  She says it's Thursday and it's always on Thursday (we've never worked this event before to have historical knowledge).  I am trying to scramble now to restaff my event and move up our rental for Thursday and my boss is trying to reschedule the event I was supposed to work on Thursday.  I need to let the municipality know since this is their staffer, but do I mention our concerns about her memory?

  • Charmed - I would tip $100 to the honest person.  That was all found money in my mind!

Weekend was ok overall.  On Friday night/Saturday morning, I rolled over in bed and smelled something funny.  We had the windows open.  Eventually a breeze blew in and I could make out it was smoke.  In my daze, I wondered why someone would have a fire pit going so late.  H woke up and asked if that was smoke.  As soon as he said that flashing lights came through the windows.  A neighbor's house across the street and a few down was on fire!  Their garage was fully engulfed and the fire also was surrounding the front entryway.  They needed to be rescued from what I saw of reports on the news.  The fire spread to their basement and smoke damage throughout.  A total loss.  I feel so bad for them.  At least they all got out ok.  The women's club is taking a gift card collection this week, so I will drop off one for the family.

Saturday was spent with family.  Sunday was church, family naptime, and then we cleaned the garage and dryer vent out.  The garage looks much better and we will be able to get around better the cars better to get DD in her new car seats.  I also am giving away some of my softball gear.  I'm just too old for it now! LOL!  We also have some ideas to make the dryer vent easier to do in the future.

I made brisket for H on Sunday.  It was so good!  Last time I put too much liquid smoke and this time I could have added another squirt or two!  Things to remember for next time.  I made some banging mac n cheese for a side.  DD loved it all too!

  • I would give them $100.
  • Kimmi - I think I would not mention the memory stuff and focus more on the contract stating the 11th in the woman's handwriting.  If they counter back about your lack of contacting this woman, then I would mention that during your second in person meeting, the woman had not remembered anything about the first meeting.

I'm sure the municipality is aware of her forgetfulness.  It can be hard to hide, day in and day out.

@kimmiinthemitten give the facts to the municipality and what you are doing to try to move to Thursday. Don’t try to armchair diagnose.

Rather than mention the memory issues I'd state the facts.

-Contract is on the 11th as signed by lady.  Lady then claimed event is the 10th.   Could they please confirm in writing via email that the event is to be this Thursday the 10th?

-Can you also schedule a phone call post-mortem with them regarding the event where facts can be presented?   If it's in 3 days they may not want to nor may they have the time to deal with this but a bit of a statement acknowledging that communication was clear on your end and yet misunderstood on their end.

Hopefully someone there will then read between the lines that someone either has memory issues or is just doing a shitty job and hoping to make other people responsible for poor job performance.
  • I’d give $100 bc hot damn that is a lot of money and super nice of them to even have done it and given you all that $ back.

SSDD. N slept like shit and even though dh was on for all wake ups last night, his howling cries woke me up at least 3x. Not sure how many times he actually got up. Working a 12 today and just watching the battery on my phone drain away. At least it’s ::knock on wood:: relatively quiet here right now.

Im so bitter I have to work 12h on Mother’s Day. My first official one and I won’t even get to spend more than an hour with my baby before he goes to bed. I’m already cranky about it. Just adding to the guilt I’ve been feeling lately about being a working full time mom. I hate this feeling. I didn’t even have it when I went back to work in January so idk why it’s hitting me now so hard. Probably bc he self-weaned off BFing about 2w ago and I’m really sad about that too. Blerg. Sorry I’m a Debbie downer right now.

@banana468 makes a good point, can you confirm with someone else besides this lady that the event is truly Thursday? Or have you already done that? I don't think I'd trust her word on anything.

@redwoodoriginal don't beat yourself up about it, it is a hard juggle with baby and work and also just working through all of the emotional issues. There are days when I see baby B for about 30 min in the morning and 1 hour in the evening, and he's usually cranky in the evening and I'm counting down the minutes until bedtime even though I've barely seen him. Then other days, like yesterday, I can't get enough of him and just want to play all day.
  • @kvruns He is one seriously cute kid!

@CharmedPam, I'm so glad you had fun on your vacation!  Sorry the weather was bad in SD; however, I can assure you, it is usually fantastic year-round.  For the roulette win, I would either offer to take that coworker out to lunch.  Or, since you know they are not fond of you for whatever reason...btw, you're fabulous and I think they're nuts...then I'd give them a $50 gift card to one of their favorite restaurants.  FTR, because I'm an untrusting person, I did quick math on a $20 one number roulette bet, lol.  $700 checks out ;).

LOL no, it's me not liking her.  She's one of my annoying coworkers.  She found out I was going, and asked me to do that for her.  No one thought she'd win, or if she did, that much.  But fair is fair and I knew karma would have hit me straight in the face had I kept it. my mom and I were talking and if that happened to me, I probably would have done a 50/50.  Or at the very least, if breaking a $100 was hard a $320/400 split.  Because I didn't have to give it to her, she didn't have to know it had won.   And yes, I lost big money on the whole trip! I had no luck gambling myself.  Our company buys lunches at least once a week for us, and we've never "gone out" out to eat nor would I want to.
Two of my friends said they would have kept it, and two said a 50/50 (she ended up giving me a $100 tip)

I'm so glad you had a great time in FL.  You are way to nice on this person and I think you should go through the pay or quit!  Is it worth the headaches EVERY month?  Doesn't look like things are getting better with her.  argh!  we finally got our own tenants paying before the end of the month and hopefully it stays that way.

I did totally misunderstand!  Then if I were in your shoes, I would definitely have given that person the money also.  I look at it black and white that it was their bet, that would not have even happened, had they not given you the $20 to bet on X number to begin with.  Glad to hear she gave you $100 out of the winnings!  I personally think that's very fair.

Exactly!  It isn't worth the headaches and time dealing with it every month.  When her portion of the rent drastically changed in Oct. '17, ie going from $0 to $800/mo., I tried to be more understanding and let her ease into that a bit.  A mistake and I should have known.  I should have been more assertive with her about the rent being paid timely from day one.  During calm times, when I happen to be talking to her anyway, I've had discussions with her about improving this problem.  She always seems receptive, but then it's back to the usual "I'll pay it when I get around to it" attitude.

So, I've given her opportunities to change her ways and, instead, she's getting worse with the attitude.  I'm not having it.  She's actually lived in that house for 8+ years (I've owned it the last 3 years and "inherited" her).  I would bet dollars to doughnuts that it has never even occurred to her that the consequence of being a sucky tenant is you get kicked out.

And as much as I would like to tell her why I'm giving a 30-day notice.  I won't.  I'm sure she will already be super p***ed off and I am not going to fuel that.  I'll just tell her and S8 that I've decided to sell the house, but want to replace all the flooring first.  Which is 100% what I am going to do.  However, the real truth, that was my original plan for whenever she decided to move out.  But I would have been happy to let her live there indefinitely, if I didn't have to chase and nag her about the rent every month.

  • @kvruns omg he is too cute!! Thanks. It is hard. Definitely have days that you just don’t want to stop being with them and days when I’m like begging to get out of bedtime, haha.

I'm here. I've been here.  Just working and preoccupied with life.

Weekend was OK.  Friday night was rough because I was just really tired and emotional.

Saturday, we cleaned house a bit and then my family came over.  My mom is so worn out.  :(  She's having her surgery next week, so I hope it will provide her  relief.  We had a nice time.  FIL even showed up.

Sunday, we woke up early and then the whole day was weirdly in slow motion.  I kept thinking it was later than it actually was.  We got some stuff done in the yard and a good amount of relaxing in as well.

  • Man, today sucks.  I built my performer schedule this year and to get my mix of known, unknown, required performers, I had to tell one of my favorites no.  The favorite is breaking my heart, b/c they really want to play and they're trying to negotiate in and I have to keep saying no.  The only way in, is if someone else has to bail on me, but I don't think anyone will.

2nd sucky decision for pride this year.
