Wedding Woes

Anyone bought sheets lately?

Since the tournament is cancelled, dh and I might go buy a mattress. We’re going up to a king so will need new sheets. I don’t think I’ve ever really bought sheets.

Amazon has had some at a good price 1800 thread count, but I don’t know if they’re any good. Bed bath and beyond is a shit ton more $$. Any place to look?

Re: Anyone bought sheets lately?

  • Hah, I've bought 5 sets of sheets in the last week. I cannot find the perfect shade of blue! I found a set at Target that has an awesome feel to it. I wish I liked the color (the set was $90 though). I think the brand was Fieldcrest.

I wouldn't get those microfiber ones. MIL has bought us two sets and both have pilled quickly and one is starting to shred.

  • I bought these sheets from Amazon last year and they are amazing.
  • My last set of sheets was from Costco a couple of years ago.  They are soft and have held up well.

My husband and I have never had a headboard, our comforter was my parents, and our furniture was my grandparent’s. My grandparents slept in twin beds hence no headboard. I really don’t care one little bit about color.

I looked at the costco ones too. They got kicked reviews, but it’s costco so returns are awesome.
  • We have these from Kohl's, and they're usually always on sale:

Another vote for no microfiber; they pill like crazy and also if you sleep in anything cotton, you'll get stuck in your sheets.
  • Thus far I've been pretty happy with sheets DH picked up at Target.   I'm a fan of cotton and anything over 300 thread count.
  • We have some great sheets from Costco...I ran upstairs to get the brand for you.  ;)  It's Charisma and they're microfiber.  They feel nice and stay cool.  They were pretty inexpensive and came with 4 pillowcases.

I've been wanting a set of bamboo sheets.  But I'll have to get rid of a set if I buy more sheets.
  • Also, if you're upgrading from queen to king...get ready.  It's life-changing.  ;)  Are you getting a regular mattress or looking for a memory foam/gel/combo mattress?

It also feels like a workout to change a king bed by yourself.  It's not terrible but feels like a lot more work than a queen size.

  • I like LLBean sheets. Super good quality, although not cheap, and they will never ever ever pop off the corner of the bed! (My pet peeve is cheap sheets with chintzy elastic.)

I think we’re pulling the trigger on a sleep number. I’m fighting the urge to do a whole bedroom makeover- paint, furniture, bedding.
  • Of all the sheets I've bought and returned this week, these are the ones we're keeping. Soft enough without being too pricey, they sell separate pillowcases and I liked the color.

And yay for sleep number! We LOVE ours!!

  • So funny you asked this!  I bought some sheets from Amazon over the weekend.  I think they arrive today.  They had 4.5 stars with 19K reviews.  Though I don't remember the exact name.  I think it had the word "hotel" in it.  I'll post the name and what I think of them, when I get the package.

I "splurged" on Egyptian cotton sheets about 6 months ago.  What a total waste of my money.  I think I was scammed.  There are no tags on the sheets to say what they are made of and the packaging was void of that info also.  They aren't very soft at all and are already falling apart.  Most expensive sheets I ever bought for the worst quality.  Meh!

  • These are my fave:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QFKQYJA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

they are soft but not silky and slippery.  I actually bought 2 sets because one can be in the laundry longer than just a change out.  I have them in black.  I also like the breathability (?) - they keep my warm throughout the year but not too too warm.  It's like the perfect material.

  • I'm a fan of cotton and most of our are from Kohl's.  One is Lauren Conrad and the rest are Sonoma I think.

Also, if anyone is still following - do you have recommendations for sheets that are extra tall?  None of our sheets fit all the way down the sides of our new mattress.  The sheets I like that I listed above don't have the option for tall/deep/whatever it's called.

  • I've been buying GlucksteinHome 600 thread count for the last 5 years and they are really nice. They are quite deep fitting and very luxurious feeling. We buy the king fitted and then 2 queen top sheets. Our marriage will last as we have two sheets and two duvets. No one hogs the covers.

LOL we have a similar reason why we'll never get a king sized bed.

We are both cover-hogs (and H doesn't want separate blankets) so we have a king blanket on a queen bed.

You could get a king mattress with a CA King blanket/comforter ;).

My H and I have a CA King mattress and, similar to @ernursej, we employ the "two blanket" method.

I thought Cal King was slightly narrower and longer?

Either way though, we definitely need a big blanket.

  • I have bought my favorite sheets (not flimsy, deep so they don't slide off) when they are on sale at Macy's.  I recommend them for sure.

I'm pretty sure that is true for a King vs. CA King.  But it is MUCH wider (and longer) than a Queen.

At the time we bought our new mattress, we were planning to buy a King.  But then we found out that Kings are wider than Queens, but not longer.  If you want longer also, you need to go up to a CA King.

They even make some weirdo, "special snowflake" mattresses that was more what I wanted.  The width of a Queen, but the length of a CA King.  But that size was just way too much "off the beaten track" for me to feel comfortable buying it.  Even though it would have been a perfect size for us.

  • Time and time again I go back to Pottery Barn sheets in the better thread counts.

Also, Target's Fieldcrest line is also soft at a much better price.  They are double-pocketed, too, so they fit extra deep mattresses, allow for toppers or fit a standard thickness mattress.

Now's the time to DO IT!!!  And - you'll enjoy everything that much more because it's "you"...

For sheets I always have had good luck with JC Penny of all places and ultra-deep pocket sheets.  I just hate when sheets pull up at the corners!  (doesn't matter the brand cheap and expensive this happens).  Also price =/= quality..  I've had just as much luck with the $20 Black Friday sheets at Walmart as the $$$ set from BBB..

I've heard good reviews on Bamboo sheets though

@MesmrEwe I’d love to but it’s not in the schedule or the budget. I’ll be lucky to get rearranged buy delivery.

Paint is cheap and an easy face lift...  I get you - for my office my taste is $$$$ and my budget $...  Thankfully I've got skills enough to DIY, but still it'd be so nice to hire people to do the work more efficiently!
  • This is really random but is anyone else having "your response will be posted after approval" pop ups?
  • I have these and I absolutely love them. The only downside is their longevity is not super great. But they are so freaking comfortable.
