Re: State Stats

  • We’re (NY) 21; not the best and not the worst.

But from that I’m taking we should all move to Hawaii.
  • Yeah IL was in the middle too.

  • I'm surprised at MO being 25.  Especially with AR, up at 3.  We share a border, it's not like you cross the state line and OMG all that stuff is gone!!!  I am in the southern part of the state though, and MO really does suffer from rural/urban divides in a big way with StL and KC being able to dominate state voting if the residents vote together.  Also, I might feel this way b/c I'm a progressive liberal living in the a state with one of the worst fucking Republican legislatures in goddamn existence ever.
  • Mine is pretty good!

I'm moving to New Hampshire :)

There was definitely no love for the South on that list.  Sadly, that's fair and understandable.

That's also a good point.  Especially geographically larger states can have areas that are very different from each other.  So northern AR might be more comparable with the mid-range MO.  But on the southern end, they share a border with #1 Louisiana (sigh).

AL often ranks toward the bottom end on educational levels of the population.  But, if you're talking specifically about Huntsville, wow!  It's college degrees minimum and advanced degrees galore because that town mainly exists for NASA/space projects and research.

Really highlights how stressful poverty is. In general, the states at the top of the list are so much poorer than the north east.
  • We're 17th (IN). I'm a little surprised we weren't ranked a bit better but eeehh.

I think it's hard to normalize subjective measures across populations. I'm more of a hard numbers person. So I think a couple of the measures under family are difficult to measure.
  • The methodology of the research was really interesting if you looked at it.  I'm surprised they didn't have a "political" type stressor in there.  I'd like to see it expanded TBH, I think it's a really good base start.

Very true.   CT clearly has issues between poverty-stricken cities and affluent suburbs.   Our new governor is also attempting revenue-boosting measures that hit all citizens (like taxes on soda, tolls, changes to how cars are taxed) but it's also an eye opener at how good we've got it.
  • Ohio is #19. I’m not terribly surprised.
  • Just chill-axing down here at #50.

  • Wow- NJ is #34?  Have they heard about our property taxes?  And our population (densest state checking in, hi) and traffic??  Lol.
