Wedding Woes

Monday, Monday

How was everyone's holiday weekend?  We got to spend some time with my family which was nice.  SSDD otherwise at work and home.  Glad the weather is finally staying nice though.

Re: Monday, Monday

  • My trip to Panama City was good, but not as great as it should have been.  Just some bad luck, weatherwise.  We only went to the beach on Thurs.  Fri. and Sat., it was sunny, but not that warm.  Plus, they had double red flags both of those days, which meant you couldn't go in the water.  However, we were on the 22nd floor with full ocean front views, so it was still awesome and relaxing to sit on the balcony and drink it all in.

I also got a phone call from the owner of the company I interviewed with a couple weeks ago.  They went with another candidate :(.  It was nice (and unexpected) that he'd called, even if it was bad news.  He told me they had really liked me and didn't have any qualms that I could do the job.  But another candidate had also meshed with them well and had more quantitative experience then I did, so they went with that person.  Oh well.  It's obviously disappointing, but I still feel good that, despite not having sent out a resume or gone on an interview in 6 years, I still landed the interview and presented myself well on it.

And now I'm back to the daily grind, lol.  With tons of work to do after having a few days off, lol.  At least I can catch up on Prudie.

  • Aw man, I'm sorry about the job @short+sassy.  I think I says a lot about the company that they called to let you know, but still disappointing - I know you really wanted it!
  • Weekend sucked because I was really stupid. I have the marathon coming up on Sunday and I thought it would be fine to play tough football on Saturday. Nope. My knee is super swollen, and I get sharp, stabbing pains when I put my full weight on it to walk. I’m mad at myself for risking an injury this close to the race. Really, really hoping it’s nothing major. I’m such an idiot.
  • S+S - Sorry that you didn't get the job, but this could be a jumping off point to find your way into a job in the industry!  They liked you, there just happened to be someone with more experience.  You can't do much about that!

Our weekend was good.  Friday, we toddler proofed DD's bedroom and switched her crib to a toddler bed.  She was not a fan, but eventually she settled down and slept all night.  She was up earlier than usual Saturday, so that will be a little bit of an adjustment for either us or her!  LOL!

Saturday we got out and ran our errands in late morning, which helped because we beat the rush of people trying to finish their shopping for the Holiday.  We did a few other things around the house and after we put DD to bed, I realized we forgot to dye eggs!  Oh well, I saved the dye kit for next year!

Sunday we got up early for 8 AM mass.  We were able to get seats inside the Church.  DD did pretty well overall, but she was tired and wouldn't sit still for us.  When we got home we found the Easter baskets and DD loved the things she got.  Score one for mom!  Next I had to start breakfast for ILs.  We ended up adding in BIL/SIL and SIL's mom to MIL and her BF.  But breakfast all came together at the right time.  After breakfast, I quickly put together the crock pot mac n cheese for dinner at my Aunt's house.  Then BIL/SIL and SIL's mom left.  We basically kicked MIL out when DD went down for her nap!  It was family nap time!  And what a wonderful nap it was too!  Then we got up and headed over to my Aunt's house.  While it was ungodly hot in her house, we had a nice time!

Oh and we got our first quote back for siding our house.  It doesn't even include anything on our wish list, just the must have list and it was 20K!  So siding may not be happening this year after all!

Boo to crappy vacation weather.  :(

I'm current watching the massive raccoon that lives in our tree, and should be asleep, traverse the tree for a new bed...maybe?  He's a huge sucker.

Our weekend was pretty good.  Friday, we went to Costco and made a stop at Trader Joe's.  We came home and watched the final episode of this season's Grand Tour (it's hosted by the o.g. Top Gear guys)  They faked DH out by playing a montage like it was the last one, but they're just changing some format stuff for next season.  I thought DH was going to cry, LOL.

Saturday, we woke up and were lazy until early afternoon.  I went to Meijer for fill in items. DH took DefConn to the exotic car dealership that's about 20 min from our house (DefConn's been begging).  I got home and did some food prep for the week and Easter dinner.  After that, we cleaned house a bit.  We then watched Spiderman Into the Spider-verse (LOVED and the sound track is awesome) and then the Favourite (I liked it OK.  It was an odd movie, but enjoyable). I also discovered Lizzo's new album and I. Love. Her.

Sunday, we woke up and did breakfast.  After that, we cleaned our room and DefConn's room.  I finally got out all of DefConn's warm weather clothes.  I purged his old stuff and packed up a box of books that are too young for him.  We went to my parent's for Easter dinner.  The weather was perfect and the boys were outside the whole time except to eat dinner.  We came home and played outside some more.  Then it was bath time for DefConn and then we watched Game of Thrones.
  • Sounds like good weekends despite some injuries and no swimming @charlotte989875 and @short+sassy.  Glad you still got to escape from reality for a bit though.  Sorry about the job.

i hung out with the family and it was really nice.  We met in Fargo since it was a short drive for my sister and the kids and a decent flight for me and my parents.  I may have encountered the smallest unbusiest airport in America.  Note: Fargo, N.D. May not be on a lot of people’s bucket list.

Are you familiar with the “OK to Wake” clock?  I think DD got hers at Target.  Both her kids are early risers.  They set a clock to a pre-determined wake up time.  It turns green when it hits the designated time.  If the kid wake up prior to “green”, they know they either need to go back to sleep or, at the very least, stay in their room.  It’s awesome!  Even the almost 3 year old respects/responds to it well!

My husband admonishes me every Easter.  We get there early, typically prior to the current Mass ending.  One year we missed getting seats because I was so busy talking to friends leaving the preceding Mass, that we stayed in the vestibule too long.  Now I get the “find seats first” and then go back out and talk lecture LOL.

Considering we had a virtual blizzard on Palm Sunday, it was amazing to enjoy Easter on the patio this year.  Gotta love Chicago!  In one given Spring week, my laundry can consist of my warmest hoodie and a pair of shorts!
  • MobKaz - Yes, I'm aware of the Ok to Wake clock.  I will probably get one at some point this year.  I blame the early wake up on the "new" bed.  She also doesn't realize she can get out of bed on her own yet.  This morning H did find her playing in bed with her Minnie Mouse, so I think she will go back to play on her own once the newness of everything wares off.  We also left all of her books in her reach, so once she realizes she can read her books, that will keep her occupied!  She loves books!

Our 14th anniversary is tomorrow. Dh’s Birthday is next week. I have zero ideas for gifts.
  • @MobKaz and @OliveOilsMom, not having kids, I've never heard of an "Ok to Wake" clock.

Now I want one to put outside my office at work, lol.  "Note to Coworkers: don't wake me from my nap until the light is green".

  • We need an OK to wake clock!   Chiquito will start K in the fall so he's OK w/ #s but he's an early riser.

We actually called do-over on Easter morning.    6:45 the little man was out of bed searching for baskets and by 7:00 he and big sis were up screaming at each other.   We forced everyone back to bed until 8.

Dude was so wired and so excited for the bunny so I felt bad for him but we need to get the screaming to stop.   We realized how amped up he was when my never a nap in the car guy was PTFO for the hour ride down to DH's aunt and uncle's house in the early afternoon.
  • This weekend was really good.  The float trip was so fun and relaxing.  The river was 2.5 feet over normal; they stop floating at 3 feet over.  So, we had some rapids to contend with, but we were all in kayaks, so it's a lot easier than a canoe.  I went through some of them backwards and was just like, welp...hope nothing is in my way!  The river was pretty clear of any brush or trees, so that helped.  :D  The outfitter had really nice kayaks too, much nicer than what I usually rent.  So, we'll definitely be going back to that outfitter.  We all had a great time and enjoyed being out and away from life for a bit.  I have a helluva sunburn on my left shoulder only.  My hat was blown away and sank at almost the very beginning and that was the shoulder that was exposed to the sun probably the entire time, but it's already fading.  K had some weird sun burns on their legs, but they're fading too.  WE saw a bald eagle and dozens of turtles.  Some of those turtles had to have shells a foot across or more.

Sunday we were supposed to go to K's family.  However, K hadn't slept well Friday night, then we went floating, then K worked overnight, so they were out on Sunday, then worked Sunday night.  I think their parents might be a bit miffed at us.  Oh well.  So Sunday we just stayed in, slept, watched a little TV and that was it.  Overall, just nice to be for a bit.
  • I started to get sick on Friday night. Saturday I struggled out to FI’s good friend’s bday party and then yesterday I crashed. I took NyQuil last night and I still feel like a train ran over me. That NyQuil hangover does not mess around. I feel a little better today. I’m hoping I’m better for tomorrow because we’re supposed to go out for FSIL’s birthday.

@charlotte989875 I hope your knee feels better soon!

@short+sassy that’s unfortunate about the job but it shows you are a great candidate if you want to put yourself out there again.

  • I worked Friday and Saturday, but got lots done Saturday morning.  I'm in the choir at church so I had to be there at 7, and then also had to sing for the 11AM service AND do Sunday school, so half the day was spent at church.  Then my husband locked us out of the house ... that was exciting.  We're getting our windows replaced today, so it would have been sort of cool to smash a window to get back in, just because we knew it was getting torn out anyways, but we went the boring route and found the spare key which my parents had.

@mrsconn23 I wanted to see the Favourite.  I hear there are bunnies in it - if I'm watching it for rabbits, am I going to be disappointed?  I'll going to watch it regardless, but will watch it sooner if there are fluffy rabbits.

  • We had a great weekend. All the family arrived Friday night. Saturday the weather was awful so we had to do our family pictures at the photographer's studio. I think it went pretty well. The grand babies are going through the phase of not liking unfamiliar situations so we had to work through that, but overall I think we will have some good shots. Saturday night H grilled one of our kids' favorite meats. Yesterday we all made it to church - even the babies- which was during nap time. They normally go to Saturday evening service but our church doesn't have one of those. We came home and had a quick Easter dinner then everyone left so they wouldn't get home to late. The house was sooooo quiet after they all left. I then did clean up (I used our wedding china and crystal) and started washing linens and towels.

Today I'm still handling laundry but also had a stretch therapy session. I always feel so good after one of those. My back and hips were so tight. I'm having lunch with friends tomorrow to celebrate my and one of their birthday. We share the same birthday so today I went out looking for a gift and ending up buying stuff for me too! I really need to stop doing that. I also got an anniversary card for SIL's grandparents. I think they've been married 65 or 66 years. Tonight I have got to do my Italian homework because I'm pretty busy tomorrow and usually submit it on Tuesday night.

@OliveOilsMom good luck with the sleeping transition! She'll adjust as will you guys. That clock does sound like a great idea @MobKaz . I'll have to suggest it to DD when the boys are in beds not cribs. Sorry about the job @short+sassy . Healing thoughts for you @charlotte989875, that sounds so painful.

You don’t have to stop when it’s your own birthday you’re shopping for!

  • Thanks everyone for the good vibes!! Feeling a bit better today!
