Wedding Woes

Tuesday?

Day 2 of summer break.  He's already bored.  This will be the worst week since we both have to work all week and don't have any plans.

Starting next week, DefConn will go to a summer reading program in the mornings to help him maintain grade level in reading (he's dyslexic). It's more like a summer camp than school and it's only 2.5 weeks.  The only thing that sucks is that we couldn't send him to boy scout camp.  Depending on how next school year goes, we may opt out and send him to camp with his pack.

And then the rest of the summer, one of us will be off one or more days a week to do stuff with him.  Plus we're going to try and get him together with friends and whatnot.

DH passed his second audit in a month with flying colors.  :D  So proud of him.

Other than that, SSDD

Re: Tuesday?

  • Oh man did I love camp growing up!  I had both summer and winter camp, coming from Canada.

I’m sooooo tired!  And I’m pretty sure I got my standard 7 hrs, so I don’t know why I am? I didn’t make my pad se ew last night. Walmart pick up was out of broccoli slaw (don’t like regular broccoli) so I have to pick some up and make it tonight. I had a doctors appt though and she told me, what happened to me a few weeks ago was probably a condition called Vasovagal syncope, so i have to let her know if it happens again.  You guys were right in that it was associated with low blood pressure.

  • My eye is bugging me so I'm headed to the eye doc this afternoon.   It's not hurting but I hate ignoring that area so off I go.

On morbid topics I'm still following the story of the missing mom in our state.   She's estranged from her H for two years, he's admitted to an affair in 2017, was abusive and they had MANY filings in their divorce proceedings.   She went missing before Memorial Day and hasn't been seen since.

Now police have advised that her blood was found in her home, her car was found not in her home and there's footage of her husband up in Hartford at night disposing of about 30 trash bags.

Not to disparage Hartford but if you're attempting to live the millionaire lifestyle, you have no business being in Hartford disposing of garbage in the dark.    I feel so bad for their 5 kids.

And last night DH and I watched part 2 of the HBO miniseries on Chernobyl.   I watch this sitting next to my engineer spouse and make him remind me that this is unlikely to happen to us.   It's not a documentary but it's horrifying to see what happened, how arrogant people were and how I hope it never happens again.

I think the next thing I watch with DH is going to need to be something far more amusing.

So sad banana.  I haven’t heard of the story but maybe our news covered this because the headline of a mom with 5 kids missing sounds familiar.

you’re going to get caught dude (without even knowing anything but your synopsis I point my finger at the H)

They're now searching the trash facilities and hopefully they didn't burn the garbage.

I'm removed from the story but some moms from my local board knew her and their kids played together.   How you can do this to your kids is horrifying.  Her mom filed for custody of the 5 kids today.

This story is so heartbreaking. I feel horrible for her children.
  • That’s horrible Banana. I can’t even imagine what those kids are going through.

And like it or not, if he's guilty then they lost their mom AND they won't have interaction with their father.     I mean, what's this guy's goal then??

I'd heard that story too @banana468 ...completely heartbreaking.
Good luck to DefConn this week ;)

Eid Mubarak to anyone who celebrates!
I've decided I don't like the dress i picked out for my sister's wedding at the end of the month.  So back to the drawing board.  SSDD otherwise.
  • Banana- that is so heartbreaking. I hope they find her so the family can have some closure.
On a happier note, you (and everyone) should watch Oh, Bruno! on Netflix next. It is so cute, about a dog, and DH loved it. They are mini episodes, like 15minutes each.

We got back from vacation today. We seriously did not leave the hotel, lol. We took the baby swimming everyday (he loved it) and took a lot of naps. I wish I could have spent more time laid out by the pool but it's a little hard with an infant in tow. Not every year will be a good tan year.

Day 2 with no summer plans and we’re holding on.  I wish it was warm enough for the pool. This week and next are the only full weeks all the kids are all home.  Then it’s camps and tryouts and grandparents here and there.

I've been following this story too. It's so awful. Those poor children.

SSDD over here. We did just find out that a family friend has cancer, and it's spread so it's not looking good. H is taking it very hard.
  • Still anxiously waiting to hear back from my lender about the appraisals and what date we can set closing for.  I was expecting to have this info back yesterday.  But no (sigh).

I got paid from my p/t job today and have been paying 'cc bills. I'm carrying balances again on some of them :(.  But that's because I'm conserving my cash for closing and then renos.  In fact, I need to talk to my H.  He's pretty frugal with money also.  But we both need to tighten it up, until after the reno is over and the units are re-rented out.

Another overwhelming day at work.  But I have a mystery shop dinner with my H tonight.  I'm looking forward to that, though it will make for a long and tiring day.

  • Yesterday I had the worst headache I've had in a long time :( I just couldn't function by the end of the day. Eventually it wore off, but it took a lot - tylenol and coffee when I got home, and BioFreeze on my neck/shoulders before bed.

Of course the one night I wanna crash early, BabyKitten {should it be ToddlerKitten now? Lol} woke up after sleeping for an hour. I dreaded going in -legit feeling like shit and did she just think that was a nap? - but after seeing she refused to sit on her bum, I realized there was something up.
Of course she reeks. *face palm*
So I take her down - bum change and bottle. A bit of bum cream and some motrin because she seemed to be really uncomfortable when I was wiping her.

Back to bed after an ounce - not surprising, she just had an entire bottle an hour before but figured I'd offer since she just pooped.

    Yay sleep!

Apparently she had a great sleep, because this morning she was all over with SOMUCHENERGY
Like who gave my child coffee? Lol

Currently looking at swim diaps. May end up ordering disposables on amazon, but we need some sooner than later since on Fathers Day I'm likely taking her to a splash pad :)
  • Expletive filled rant:

F**k!!!!!  Now I just got an e-mail from the broker that the lender wants the HUD closing documents from each property I own.  Why?

This is the third thing they've asked for in the 11th hour, after I have already sent them a s**t-ton of paperwork.

This is what they do for a living, ffs.  Why is it hard for them to just tell me everything they want the FIRST time?  Instead of repeatedly harassing me for endless crap.  Much of which, like my HUD closing statements, seems pointless and unnecessary anyway.  I'm BUSY.  I'm tired.  I'm stressed.  I'm so sick of this.

I think (and pray) that I have all that previous closing paperwork in my home safe.  But, if I don't have all of them and can't find it, it will be even more hassle.

Thanks for letting me vent, you all.

  • @mrsconn23 Kids .... always bored ;)

@CharmedPam I was like that recently. I'd sleep all night, wake up, send Kitten to daycare, go home and take a nap. Part way thru the day I debated on taking another nap .... so exhausted.
Try a few low key days. Should help.

@banana468 O.M.G. That shit sounds like a made-for-netflix movie :open_mouth: I've heard a lot about the Chernobyl show .... glad you're able to clarify how things are different now, I've always wondered.
Note: I think the one who filed for custody does not trust the father .... besides his past history, he sounds sketch ...

    @VarunaTT Have fun! :)

    @climbingwife Sorry to hear :(

@short+sassy  Urg budget tightening sucks :( but as I often try to view it - "short term pain, long term gain"

    Horrible and tragic. 😢
  • @short+sassy  Is it same lender doing this every time? If so, I would complain
  • @short+sassy, sorry to hear that. I hope things move forward soon!

My parents are going on their cruise soon, so starting tomorrow I have two weeks without them around. I'm tempted to throw a 16 Candles style party in their house while they're away. No, seriously, it just feels weird.

Yesterday ended on a set of sucky notes, but today seems somewhat better.

  • @MissKittyDanger

Regarding Chernobyl, DH and I have been researching from phones.   The information we're finding is that particular power plant was not made the same way as other nuclear power plants.    There was additional arrogance and denial on the part of Soviet governments and now the area is a ghost town.   This miniseries is destined for the Emmy awards.

Regarding the case, the parents of the missing woman have bailed out the estranged husband financially multiple times to the tune of over millions of dollars.

I feel like they may have touched on that in the Chernobyl horror movies, but not a whole lot. And a series like that, I'd be surprised if it didn't win an award.

The whole family deal just sounds sad :(
  • @short+sassy  Is it same lender doing this every time? If so, I would complain
No, I haven't used this lender before.  Sadly, I don't think it's even that unusual for the industry.  I've had similar things happen before, though usually not to this extent.

Previous tenants I had were closing on their own house and they had to keep sending their packet of mucho paperwork to their lender.  Who would say they'd received it.  But then contact them a few days or a week later that they didn't have it.  I think that happened to them 3x.  Also a different lender.  Their citizenship was French and I know that added extra red tape.

A neat story why they were here.  Not so much NOLA and the suburbs, but smaller towns throughout South-East Louisiana used to be primarily French speaking.  But a couple generations ago, that started changing.  Including only English being spoken in schools.  People felt Cajun culture was starting to be lost (because it was) and about 10ish years ago an emphasis was placed on bringing some French back to the classrooms.  Lots of schools in those areas hired native speakers to spend a portion of the day teaching children French.

And cue...my former tenant was hired for one of those positions and she and her H moved to Louisiana.  They actually lived on the other side of my personal duplex, so I got to know them better than I usually do.  Really nice people and we had fun discussions in the backyard about French/American cultural differences and similarities.  Bittersweet.  I was glad for them they bought their own home.  Totally bummed to lose them as tenants, lol.

I'm glad they're ensuring they don't lose their history!

Interesting thing. M has family still in Nova Scotia - but his family history dates back to the Acadians, some of which headed south to Louisiana and are Cajun :)
  • @MissKittyDanger, neat!  I believe all/most Cajuns specifically came from Nova Scotia to escape religious persecution by the British.  I've never heard of them also coming from a different part of present-day Canada, though I suppose that's possible.

At least to my untrained ear, Cajun French sounds really different from European French.  The words have harsher edges to them...I'm sure there is a better way to explain that, but I can't think of one, lol.  And it has an unusual, but cool sounding, almost sing-song cadence.
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • @short+sassy  From the brief info I've heard, they fled from the Euro French and some basically stayed in Nova Scotia hiding - many just headed south to Louisiana. It's M's mum's side of the family, so her bucket list is to do New Orleans and Louisiana :) It's ironic, because also that side of the family is also big on spicy foods very similar to Cajun cooking
