Wedding Woes

TGIF

For real.

Pregnancy hormones are kicking in bigtime the last few days.  I'm super crabby today, and I cried twice last night - including once because my dad sent a pic of his favorite dessert that my mom made him and I cried because I couldn't have any and didn't have the ingredients to make it.

I've been having crazy connectivity/update/network problems with my work computer and have gotten almost no work done the last couple days.

Good news is that we have summer hours and I get to leave at 12:30!  WOO.  Going to do a quick (LOL) stop at the dmv since I've lived here almost 2 years and still don't have an IL license, and then transplant some herbs and veggies while it's supposed to be nice this afternoon.

What is everyone up to today/this weekend?

Re: TGIF

  • Nice!  Happy early out, @Casadena!  Nothing going on here.  Tonight I’m going to go home to take a nap and then visit a friend of mine who had some out patient surgery.  I want to bring her something to eat and nachos are her fave - but she only has one arm (it’s shoulder surgery) so maybe I should think of something easier to eat?

That sounds amazing @VarunaTT.  I’m excited for you!

i just remembered this is H’s first father’s day without his dad.  I bought him a baskin robbins ice cream cake but left it blank so i could write on it because he has kids - but estranged from them.  Long story.  But I didn’t want to write “happy fathers day”.  I can draw on the handle bar mustache he’s sporting in honor of his dad - but what should I write on it?

  • How is it the middle of June already?! I just feel like it was May, yesterday.

Our whole group at work today leaves at 2 for “team bonding”. Normally I side eye this kind of thing but today we’re doing a hike in a park I haven’t been to and playing kick ball. Then happy hour.

Also I forgot my lunch but I’m having a delicious dumpling soup so not too bad!
  • OOh purple vibes @VarunaTT

I feel like ass today.  I overdid it yesterday between being tired, not eating enough, and then yardwork and taping the bathroom to paint it.  I took the day off because I could not function this morning.  For some reason, my stomach was super off and I had a massive headache.

It's gorgeous outside, so I'm about to take DefConn and bake off the dregs of this funkiness.
  • @Casadena, hang in there with the crazy hormones!  It's funny how hormones can turn the most normal, ordinary things into crying events, lol.  Either from sadness, joy, or both at the same time.  One of my friends was laughing about it when she was pregnant.  She got a thank-you card from a friend for a wedding gift she'd give her and started bursting into joyful tears because "she's such a good friend and it's so nice she sent me a ty card."  While, logically she's thinking, "OMG, why am I crying and so emotional over a ty card, lol?!?!"

@CharmedPam, I know there are nacho casseroles out there.  Typically the same ingredients as nachos, but in a baked casserole form.  Slightly crumbled tortilla chips are sprinkled on top toward the end or after cooking, so that it can be eaten with a fork.  Not quite the same satisfaction as dipping a chip in, but the same delicious flavors.

Sadly, I am not closing today :(.  It needs to be pushed out to probably Tues.  Of all things, my liability coverage turned into a s**t show because my agent misunderstood what's happening and bound coverage for the completely wrong type of policy.  What they sent me was more designed for a fixer/flipper who will never have tenants living there for the whole time they own it.  I had clearly explained there are tenants living there now and will be for 30 days after closing.  And, as I fix up each unit, I'll be placing tenants in them because I'm keeping these properties.  So, whatever.  Not sure how they got the wrong impression about all of that.

I don't know why insurance is stupid like this, but you often don't get the meat and potatoes of an insurance policy until AFTER you've bound it.  Which is done completely at the end, the only last step is payment.  So I get e-mailed the policy contract and...I know, it's crazy...actually read through the 30 pages of fine print exclusions.  Oh, okay.  So you basically don't cover anybody who is going to actually be at the property.  Soooo, why would I be paying you over $1400 for nothing?  Little confused on that.

I've already spoken to my insurance agent this morning and, at least the good news is, I was correct to raise flags and have major concerns.  And there do exist other types of liability policies that are more suited to my situation and thankfully are in about the same price range.  He sent me one that was better cover and $400 cheaper.  But it excluded tenants who are on subsidized housing.  And medical expenses were limited to $5K per person/event.  WTF?  Maybe that buys someone an ambulance ride and quick visit to an ER.  FFS!!!!  What is so hard about this?!?!

Thanks for bearing with me on my vent about liability insurance.  Not the most interesting subject, lol.  But a good example that the old adage "read the fine print" IS wise advice ;).

I'm still sick.  Still stuck at work.  It's my half-day but, despite it all, will still have to work a couple hours over.  Because I've had to waste 90 minutes of my time dealing with personal stuff for this insurance issue.

However, after that, I'm FREE from it all!  A couple errands to run.  But then I'm spending the rest of the day and all weekend holed up at home.  To rest, relax, drink hot tea, and swig cough medicine.  With any luck, I'll at least be feeling physically better by Monday.

K went to work last night..and came home.  Apparently, her client is out of town for surgery.  K knew the surgery was coming up, but didn't know the actual dates and somehow client didn't tell her.  So, unexpected whole weekend, whoot!  They're going in to claim vacation time for it, so they still get a check though.  I think we're going to see Late Night tonight.

I have a friend who is sending me a job application.  It is 100% outside of my wheelhouse, but he is a very intelligent person, who I don't think would blow smoke up my butt about doing something, and thinks I can do it and is referring me.  It would be a significant pay increase, with opportunities for advancement, bonuses, and more pay increases, and working from home, which also means the job can come with me if we do move for K's career.  And the job increases to the pay rate of that city, so that's a helluva nice thing.  So, I'm sucking it up and trying. If I get it, I'll cross that bridge decision.

Wow!  That job sounds amazing!  Good luck with it.  I hope it winds up being offered to you and is everything it's cracked up to be.

  • Happy Friday everyone!

I just got back from a business trip to SLC. Working from home today. We stayed in a great hotel, and I did get to spend a few hours by the pool.

Lots of running around this weekend.
  • Sending good vibes @VarunaTT

That sounds like one of the best possible “team bonding” situations @charlotte989875

Feel better @short+sassy! That all sounds like a bunch of shenanigans from the insurance company.

Yesterday FSIL and I went on a hike. Then we decided to go out with her FI for happy hour. We got some great deals. Today I have a whole list of things to do. I’m dragging my feet a bit but it will get done. I work all weekend so I have to meal prep for that too.

Took the kids hiking today. Girls night tonight!  Baseball Saturday and Sunday night date night to pentatonix and Rachel patton.
  • Ah-ha.  I found out the deal on the $5K limit for medical expenses.  Apparently all liability policies are typically like that.  For investors, home owners.  Everyone.

Insurance companies expect people to have their medical bills covered by their own medical insurance.  $5K is for small stuff or to cover someone's insurance deductible.  Though, really, you probably want to pay that out of pocket or have sky-high premiums for 6 years.

However, if a person/company gets sued by a person injured on their property.  And especially if that injured person doesn't have medical insurance.  That's where the general liability part of the policy kicks in and will cover a lawsuit, if damages are awarded.

He also pointed out that, really, unless there is some kind of defect to the property that caused injury, the property owner shouldn't be responsible for any injuries that happen on a property.  But some people are jerks and we live in a litigious society, so the property owner and their insurance often get swept along for the ride.

I know way too much about insurance right now, lol.

  • @Casadena ahhh crying over stuff .... been there ;) yay short day :)

@CharmedPam I mean ... technically you could eat nachoes with one arm?
I would just leave the moustache personally.

@VarunaTT Clearly this person thinks you could do it, and maybe you're just unintentionally selling yourself short?

@short+sassy  urg headache worth of stuff :(

@6fsn Ooh I've heard Pentatonix is great live :)

Almost end of day and I have only just gotten on.
I managed to snag a couple mins on Ikea website to customize a Pax wardrobe for BabyKitten since we're trying to price that out without sale. I'm gonna do it on the next Pax sale though. $355 is approx what we're looking at. Simple idea tbh.

Roughly - shelving along the right side {which is by a wall}, 2 bars for her clothes and a shelf with space at the bottom for bins.
Top bar for future things we have {ie; snowsuit, fall jackets, etc} and nice things. Bottom bar for hanging clothes we use often
Shelving will have small bins for her clothes - onesies, shorts, pants, etc.
Bottom space will have at least 1 bin - right now maybe toys or misc stuff but later maybe laundry, or shoes, etc. She may decide something else.

I want this to grow with her.

We're gonna redo a trunk for her so blankets, etc can go in there.

Weekend plans - tomorrow BabyKitten is sleeping over at grandma's, as friends of ours are having a surprise bday party at a comedy show. Since it'll be late, we figured instead of having my mum stay late that it'd be better for her to go to my mum's. If we had a spare room my mum could crash in, it may be different.

I think I'm gonna give M his Father's Day gift on Saturday, since he's gonna go fishing Sunday. I'll go pick up BabyKitten on Sunday, and we may hit up a splash pad near my mum's also - depending on the weather. If weather sucks, I may stick around at my mum's place a bit.
  • Happy Friday!

I vented to my mom about Father's Day plans.   I think she got it:

-Back on Mother's Day, the event was at my parents' w/ ILs invited.   Then my dad got a stomach bug so we cancelled and mom said they'd host Father's Day.

-Well now Father's Day is approaching and we have the situation with my BIL and SIL hanging over us.   DH and I will not get in the car immediately upon hearing that SIL is in labor but MIL and FIL will.  To complicate this, MIL and FIL live 5 minutes from us but we are all an hour from my parents.

-I asked my mom if we could have Father's Day at our house.   She said that she and my dad aren't leaving the house but it's no hard feelings if we wanted to reschedule.

-After talking to her today I diplomatically told her that while I understand that she thought her plans were being nice by being low pressure, they actually put DH and me in a shitty position.   FIL and MIL thus far are still in town.    If a call comes in on Sunday they want to move quickly to get to see BIL and SIL.   Being at my parents means that they'd have to head back to their house and then head to BIL and SIL's.   That's just not a smart drive when they know the ride they're facing is a good 10+hours.

-So essentially I get to pick between either not celebrating Father's Day at all, or not celebrating with my dad who I haven't seen in two months OR now DH isn't celebrating Father's Day with HIS father who on that day may know that his youngest grandchild is passing.    And I get that this is all under the premise of "This is a Hallmark holiday so please don't feel like you have to feel compelled or pressured" but ALLLLLL of this could have been resolved if she said, "You know what Banana?  Moving the party to your house or your marina (with a covered tent and picnic tables and gas grills for free) sounds like a GREAT idea."

DH and I talked it over and we're going on Sunday.   But we emphasized that in the future we would like them to consider that maybe next time to listen to a fellow grown up.

The hormones are no joke @Casadena , job sounds awesome @VarunaTT , vibes to your H @CharmedPam and if there has to be team bonding, yours sounded awesome @charlotte989875
Feast last night was very enjoyable.  A baby boy is joining the family in October, only the second one, it's all girls except for my son :) I have a bridal shower tomorrow for a cousin's FI...child-free wedding so I can go solo, my daughters will stay home with my H and son.  And it's at a bar/restaurant that was one of my faves in my 20s, they do a great brunch, so extra looking forward to it.
Celebrating my dad Sat night and H on Sunday (one fully deserves it and one partially :D) but the kids love any and every holiday so celebrate we will.
