Candy Coma FRIDAY

How was Trick or Treating, handing out candy, or hiding from kids?

Re: Candy Coma FRIDAY

  • ToT was short and wet.  We did go to a neighborhood that had houses close together and seemed to be pretty active.  I drove the car while DH and DefConn ran from house to house before they got in to warm up.  He got a good haul since people were shoveling candy at the kids that did show up.  ;)

Tonight we're prepping for our freezing ass camping trip tomorrow day/night.  Also, BIL and nephews are coming to stay at our house Saturday night (BIL has been traveling for work the last 2 weeks and he's taking the boys over here to give SIL a break from mommy-ing).  So we need to pick up a bit from our normal daily lack of fucks about the condition of the house.  :D

Sunday, we're skedaddling home ASAP to watch sportsball with BIL/nephews/FIL/the kiddo (before he goes to work).  :)

  • We only had ten kids stop by! So I guess all of the candy will be going with me to work tomorrow. Recovery today, gym, and prepping for work this weekend. Of course even though I could sleep in today I woke up at 7:30. Oh well. It’s getting chilly here in the mornings. Finally.

  • We never get any TOTers, so it was a pretty mellow evening.

The day, however. Well, it was interesting. Remember how my ex passed away last month? Apparently it was an accidental drug overdose, and the cops showed up at my house to ask me questions. I wasn't home, so they spoke to my H. I broke up with this ex almost 7 years ago. I guess his family gave the cops my name to try to find out info.
  • We went out last night and it was pretty quiet.   We ultimately joined our neighbors and went downtown.   Kids have a TON of candy and now we do it again tomorrow!

The wind REALLY kicked up last night.   We have a tree branch down on the side of the yard that's about 9" in diameter that will need to be cut up with a chain saw but as it seasons it's going to be good fireplace wood (oak).

The kids have no school today because the storm took down trees and power lines making the streets blocked/impassable so hooray 3 day weekend!  I have Chiquita's friend here and the kids are playing.

The storm and calls from the school woke me up and now I have a stiff neck.   I need a massage.
  • That is interesting to say the least @climbingwife were you still decent friends with him? Otherwise that seems odd
  • What could your H possibly answer for them, @climbingwife? He wasn't there 7 years ago!

Glad everyone had a good night.  I’m LoLing at DS @kvruns

TOT was quiet.  15-20 kids MAYBE.  One group came to my door and I was still rushing to answer it.  But then they left after a second, I guess they thought I wasn't home?  So I pulled out some decorations from the garage so people would know I was a house with candy.  But not TOO TOO much candy.  I have a handful or two left so perfect amount actually.  And that’s with me digging into it too.

No. I think his family is completely in denial that he ever did any drugs. They gave the cops a list of names to contact, and I was put on that list.

@charmedpam they were looking for me, but I wasn't home. They left a card w/ my H for me to call.
  • Climbing - So weird that the police would come talk to you.

Kvruns - I think DD would be the same way with the dinosaur costume!  This morning, while she walked out the garage to get in the car and said it looked scary outside.  It was a typical morning and no one had their Halloween decorations even blown up (those are the only thing visible from our house!)

We lucked out last night and DD didn't seem to care about going door to door.  She had a blast walking around my office and everyone loved her costume.  We only did about half of the my floor (we have 3), but that seemed to be enough for her.  MIL and BF were at my house when I got home and she gave DD a bike ::facepalm::  - dude, its just Halloween!  Save the bike for Christmas!

We have tons to do this weekend around the house before we leave for vacation.  I have 3 different dog sitters to prep for and packing to start.  I am so excited!  DD is getting excited to go on a plane ride and that my parents are coming too.  MIL just realized last night that my parents are coming with us, so I hope this doesn't lead to her thinking we need to vacation with her! LOL!
  • @oliveoilsmom a bike for Halloween?  what??  Where are you going for vacation?

Does this mean that they refuse to believe he may have done illegal substances by his own choice so now they are asking anyone he ever knew if they were his dealer?

When you were together was your impression that he either kept his family in the dark or they were in denial if he used back then?

I guess? The cop said the family is in complete denial. I was under the impression that they wanted to know if I'd ever seen him use drugs in the 5 years we were together. At least that's what the cop asked me.

His drug use was very sporadic and recreational. If he was out drinking, and a friend had coke, he would do some. That's really it. It's definitely something he never would have discussed with his parents or some of his older siblings (he was the youngest of 6 kids). I have a feeling some of the younger siblings closer to our age knew, or at least suspected.

That is so sad.   And I feel for parents because you want to believe the best in your kids too.

Yeah - I know.  Apparently they also got 2, one for when she is even bigger!  And the one they did give her is still too big for her, though it does have training wheels and she can sit on it with some effort.  I always tell my MIL that when she sees something she wants to buy, take that same amount of money and we can put it in her bank account for college - but she doesn't listen to me...

And we are going to NOLA!
  • That's crazy, @climbingwife. I'm sorry you have to deal with that while you are still grieving.

Trick-or-treating ended up being great last night - the high velocity winds and downpours held off until after 10pm last night. Our town had put required start and stop times for ToTing this year because of impending weather - start time was 4:30, which seems kind of early, and end time was 7:30 (which also seems early, but I had a 2-year-old to put to bed, so I was glad for a moratorium on doorbell ringing.

We are THE neighborhood in my area so we usually get upwards of 300 tick-or-treaters. This year we only got 140. We have a TON of leftover candy.

Babypants did really well with it this year! She got the hang of ringing doorbells, saying "trick or treat" (to which she adds a "please" lol) and saying thank you. She doesn't like candy at all, so she got to have the fun experience while Mr. Pants & I reap the rewards lol. It was super muggy outside and in the 70s, but I wasn't sure a) how long she'd last or b) how long the storm would hold off for, so I told her we'd only go to the houses of neighbors we are friendly with. Welp, over 1 hour later and we still had 5 houses left - turns out we know a lot more neighbors than I thought we did!!!

She had a blast and I was able to get some dinner in her AND a bath before she went to bed - and that was only about 25 minutes later than normal!

Today her school scheduled Picture Day. I don't know what they were thinking scheduling that for the day after Halloween, but I hope they don't do it again! I am EXHAUSTED.

Oh @climbingwife, that's got to be jarring.  I understand that his family is struggling with the loss, but I find it inappropriate that they sent the cops in your direction.  :/  They could have at least given you a head's up or contacted you to ask you memories/impressions before just having a cop show up at your house.
  • Casadena - That is awesome of your dad!  Have the best time tomorrow!

V - Have fun this weekend!  Sounds like fun and I'm sure K will enjoy it too!
  • Yay @casadena, enjoy!
Ugh that's really hard @climbingwife, I'm sorry.  KInd of weird the cops went to your home instead of the head detective just calling you to discuss.  Or to set up a time that worked for you.

My darn H used my keys for a quick rite Aid run last night and accidentally brought them with him to work this morning.  When I was getting shoes and coats on this morning and couldn't find them after a few minutes I called him and got an "oh shit I have them" I'm response.  I walked the kids to school bc it's only a few blocks and uber'ed it to work but hopray for $35 in round trip car fare.  Ugh...TGIF.  Fairly relaxing weekend planned at least.
  • BabyKitten didn't do any ToT'ing this year. She enjoyed being in her highchair when kids came to the door, and it was pretty slow considering tbh.
Next year we plan to do some houses for more concept than anything, and I think I'll book off time to leave early and set up - because busing and trying to get everything ready isn't easy at that time of night.

Weekend seems pretty lowkey. We have some cleaning to do, and M said he wants to go to the range likely Saturday. I may move some stuff around BabyKitten's room to clear space, and if M finishes that one part of her closet then we can open up her play area on the main floor.
It'll be good to get it all adjusted early because we have a kitchen set for her xmas gift that we have no idea where to put it yet.
