Good morning to everyone except for @CharmedPam's STBXH and cancer. Both can fuck right off.
We are out of treatment options for mom. It's now supportive/comfort care. We're all still processing. Not sure when mom will be sprung from the hospital. There's some coordination and training for my dad that needs to happen. So...yeah. That's about the size of it. They said up to 6 months, but we'll see what happens when she goes home. I'm still gaming when I put in a leave request. I have counseling on Thursday, thankfully.
We have wonderful friends and family who are asking what they can do. DefConn is ridiculously emotionally intelligent and has empathy in spades. We had quite the discussion, led by his questions, last night. His other amazing quality is that he knows his limit and when he's taken in 'enough' information for him. So after we talked and had our tears, he wanted to snuggle in our bed and watch mindless TV while we had some gummy bears. But seriously, my almost 9 year old could teach many adults a thing or two about processing difficult information.

Oh @mrsconn23 I am so sorry. Cancer can go straight to hell.
It sounds like you're processing this as "well" as you can and with some serious logistics in mind. I know DH's cousins went through this 2.5 years ago with his aunt who passed from ovarian cancer. With 9 kids and FIL as one of the other 4 siblings they often found that simply mass emails were the ways to keep people in the loop without having to answer the same questions from the rest of us who may be well-intentioned but who who weren't the first people to ask the same thing that day.
It isn't fair and I hope you're doing as well as can be expected. Many hugs to you and your family.

I'm hoping I am over the latest cold. I have an odd feeling when I blow my nose on the left side and get a slight pain near my ear. Weird.
King cake dough is rising now. In one hour I roll it out and cross my fingers in the hopes that I didn't muck it up. I had to add flour once I threw the dough out of the bowl because that was some sticky stuff that just would not come together. After a few dustings the dough went from something I'd throw at an enemy to a cohesive ball that is rising.
We've had some issues recently with Chiquita and she's seeing the school social worker. I think I'm going to rig the cake so she gets the baby.
@mrsconn23 oh jeez rough, but glad you have a counseling coming up. Kudos to having a convo lead by DefConn - it's not easy as an adult, but you're right on processing. But hugs all around
So I saw this article about a mom who named her kid Andrew but hates nickname Andy and kid is now 7 - she is going into the school and complaining to the teacher about referring to him as Andy. https://www.boredpanda.com/crazy-mom-child-name-andrew/
Now, 2 questions
Self - are there any nicknames of your name you hate?
With Kids - is there any nicknames you're hoping don't happen for your kid?
Myself, there isn't many nicknames for my name considering it is considered a nickname. {even though it's my legal name}
For BabyKitten - little bit of info. Her name is Michelle. Tbh only nickname I really hope she doesn't get is Shelley/Shelly. I know someone named it, and it works. Idk if it's a nickname, but general sense I'm not a fan of that as a nickname. If later she goes by that, I'll ask if she's ok with me calling her something else. {which I hope she is} If any nickname, I'm hoping something along the lines of Mickey. Why? Because family history. My poppa {dad's dad} was named Gerald but nicknamed Mick. My dad's name was Michael after him. Michelle is obv named after my dad. So hence my hope for Mickey if she wants a nickname.

I think if the kid & the parents decide they don’t want a name (nickname, given name, whatever) to be used then people, especially teachers & folks in authority positions need to respect that.
I wish my parents used my full name (I’m Jacqueline but always called Jackie) and they never did. I’ve tried at different points to ask people to use my full name and they never do.
I’m back at work and still not feeling great. We has an interesting weekend to say the least.
I was sick but needed to get out of the house so went up to my parents (about an hour away) for brunch. On my way back home H texts and says he’s on his way to urgent care because he cut his hand on the table saw. He says he doesn’t need me to come with him. An hour later he calls and says they won’t treat him because there are bone fragments in the wound and he has to go to the ER (not any ER the one with a hand specialist that’s also the Level 1 trauma center in our city). So I insist on meeting him there because he won’t let me drive him. We spend 5 hours in the ER, he gets IV antibiotics and tons of stitches but luckily no surgery (bone fragments were small enough the surgeon wasn’t worried). It was a long night. I slept on Sunday.
@charlotte989875 I know a girl with her name like that and come high school, she asked people to use her full name. People did. I never knew her as "Jackie" It's rude people never listened when you asked them to call you full name
I mean in the article the mom talked to the teacher and teacher agreed to make a note to not and mention it. Kids kept calling him "Andy" and kid would also say his name is "Andy" so mom is pissy about that now.
((hugs)) mrsconn. I am so sorry. It sounds like you guys are dealing as well as you can as a family. Defconn sounds like a super special kid.
Hope you feel better, that your king cake turns out well, and that Chiquita finds the baby @banana468
MKD- my name is katherine and I don't mind any nickname except Kathy. My mom and her side of the family has always called me Kate. I used to hate it but now I love it. My old friends call me Katie, people here call me Katherine or Katty (which I think they might be calling me Kathy but with the accent it sounds like Kat-ty and I like it, lol). DS is Jacob. We picked it thinking we would call him Jake but don't yet. A guy who works at the stable calls him Jakey and it doesn't bother me at all.
MrsConn - I'm so very sorry to hear this update. You did the best thing for DefConn, I still recall the convo with my dad when his mom was in the same situation. It didn't go well, to say the least. I was also the last to know, as I'm the youngest and dad told us one at a time about a week apart as we each visited her and not to tell the others. So answering his questions when he asked, will also help him long term. I am glad you have a meeting with your therapist this week, to help you sort out your feelings. Lastly, my mom's cousin did a group email with updates on her mom and dad. Any family email address she had compiled over the years, she just sent a weekly update or when any big changes happened. She asked it to be forwarded to people not on her list or for others to call further cousins not online. This was also how she alerted family to their passing and final arrangements.
We had a nice Monday. It was DDs official birthday and she had a great day at school and enjoyed the cupcakes I sent in with her friends. She is also transitioning into Preschool, so I hope that helps her. I think this class stops forcing the kids to lay on mats at naptime, but gives them the option to sit quietly at the table and read. H was at karate, so DD stayed up until he got home. We all went up to put her to bed and her last present from Mom & Dad was there waiting for her! It was a book, some clothes and new booties! She was very happy with them! She is wearing the booties today too! This morning she asked me if it was her birthday again. I told her she had to wait until next year - her mouth dropped open! LOL!
Most people call me by my full name. Its also how I sign emails, letters and introduce myself. But my immediate family, H, close friends and some co-workers call me by the shortened version of my name - which I do answer to and have no problems being called by. MKD - if you want BabyKitten's nickname to be Mickey, just start calling her that. Usually nicknames are given to people by their families and it just continues into adulthood where they can decide to keep the nickname for everyday or start to use their full name "professionally" if they prefer.
((hugs)) mrsconn. I am so sorry. It sounds like you guys are dealing as well as you can as a family. Defconn sounds like a super special kid.

Lol! SO my legal name is Katie. I'm named after my mum's grandmother. Her legal name was Catherine - but my mum had a cousin with that name, so opted for a nickname she was called. My username is because kids in the kinder and under age call me Kitty.
@OliveOilsMom I've called her that often. I may start more because we're pretty sure BabyKitten thinks her name is "you" or "Michelle" - mostly our doing, because when she see's a photo/reflection we're like "yah, that's you." Now she points at her photo/reflection and says "you!" *facepalm*
((((@mrsconn23))) no words. So sorry . It does look like you’re handling it so well though. take all the time you need.
@MissKittyDanger, yes! I saw free pancakes at ihop yesterday for today. Forgot about that!
My mom’s name is Katherine, but everyone called her Kathy. She moved to TN and became Mrs. Kate. It’s still hard to get used to that one. My sister’s eldest is also Katherine, named after her grandma, our mom. But we call her Katie. I suspect she’ll want that changed once she reaches a certain age. 7 now. She knows if she’s called Katherine she’s in trouble though!
@CharmedPam Since my legal name is short, my mum pulls the typical "mom" and uses my middle name. BabyKitten has 2 middle names, so I think it will depend on my mood Fun fact, Starbucks has made the most interesting versions of my name. Kaitie is my fave - my name is already mostly vowels and somehow they found a way to make more
DD and DS1 have names that could have nicknames. H and I didn't want them called anything but their given names. That was never a problem until DS1 hit middle school and girls started calling him and asking for him by a nickname. I told them, that person didn't live here but DS1 did. LOL, they stopped calling him by a nickname. DD was never called by a nickname until she met her H. He calls her a slightly unusual version of a nickname for her name. I. HATE. IT. but also have no say since she is a grown woman now. I wince every time he says it though. My H knows I can't stand it so smirks when SIL says the nickname.
@mrsconn23 hugs to you. I pray that your mom is kept comfortable and doesn't suffer much during this ordeal. Yes cancer sucks - went through this with my mom. I'm so sorry you are going through this.
We call it Fat Tuesday and it's truly one of my favorite quasi-religious days
Best vibes being sent from Long Island to the Midwest - @mrsconn sending all the love to you and your family. F cancer. Big time. DefConn is such a special kid @CharmedPam just catching up from yesterday, sending you all the love too. It was really brave of you to take this step and also to share it here. I hope there's lots of happiness and peace in your future.
@mrsconn23, ((hugs)) to you and your family. I hope your mom is as comfortable as possible in the coming months.
@CharmedPam, I saw your posts from yesterday and am really impressed you started your own support group, when you saw there was a need! I'm glad you are in therapy and that it is still helping you. Hopefully your current therapist will be still be in-network when you switch health plans. As an aside, "in/out" network, smh. Yet more stupidity in our current private insurance healthcare system (eyeroll).
@MissKittyDanger, the only Michelle(s) I've known were always called their full name, Michelle. I have a good friend named Shelley, but that is her legal first name. But, yeah, if you all don't use the nickname Shelly, I doubt that will be a nickname she gets. On the other hand, if you all like the nickname Mickey and call her that, that's probably a nickname she'll at least keep through childhood.

Happy Mardi Gras everyone! Though I have not been very Mardi Gras at all today, lol. I shouldn't jinx myself because the day isn't quite over. But my 4-day weekend turned out AWESOME! Yaasss! The phrase "Mardi Gras" is literally French for Fat Tuesday.
Edited to add. We more typically call today the French words, Mardi Gras down here. But it's also not unusual to hear the English words, Fat Tuesday.
We're normally a seafood-crazy city anyway but, with Lent starting tomorrow, the seafood emphasis REALLY goes into high gear. Practically every restaurant has "Lenten specials", which are seafood specials. Even national fast food places start advertising and having specials on their fish sandwiches.
I've decided to take tomorrow off. I'm going to a drag show tonight, so that when the clock strikes midnight, everyone can tell me how much they love and adore me and buy me drinks. Not shots, I can't do that shit anymore, I'm 43 now, y'all. Then tomorrow, I'm going to At Home and Ulta, and seeing a showing of Two Towers: Extended Edition for my birthday gift to myself. Favorite book, favorite character, and favorite movie of the trilogy, ALL FOR ME. Oh, it's my birthday tomorrow, in case I didn't make that clear.
Other than that, SSDD, with me cursing my bosses' names and exposed inefficiency. So tired of some of the BS at work, but I like money and am yet to be independently wealthy,so here we are.

Happy early birthday @varunatt! Sounds like a fun day. I can’t do shots either. Doesn’t mean I don’t try! Enjoy your night and day off!

Two Towers is my favourite too!!! And I've made plans to see it this Sunday! Not in a movie theater, but still, small world. I remember reading the book for the first time and at one point I yelled out loud I was that into it. So good ...
