FRIDAY!

The weekend is almost here!  I know every day seems to blend together right now, but seriously the weekends are still the best since I can put work aside and focus on other shit.  And day drink...hee.

So DH and I were watching this show "Alone" last night.  It's a History channel show, but it's on Prime.  We watched the second season this week and we got the finale last night.  The premise of the show is that these survivalists are dropped off in the wilderness and it's a literal survival of the fittest.  These people are filming themselves, no crew and have very basic supplies and have to live off the land the rest of the time.  The last two were doing all right with the survival part, but the mental game of being alone was really hard.  So when the final guy was left, they sent his daughter in to tell him he made it to the end, 66 days (!) (the prize is $500K).  DH and I were sobbing because we really felt for this guy.  DefConn was like, "OMG, what is wrong with you? Are you really my parents?"  LMAO

Since we don't want to venture too far from home, we're not getting our regular stock up of Costco coffee.  I looked into having some shipped, but it's was more $$$ and they charge for shipping.   Amazon Fresh's Colombian is excellent and I just ordered Nicaraguan that's coming on Monday.  So FYI if you're hard-up for decent whole bean coffee.

This weekend we're doing some barn repairs because we have a couple small roof leaks.  We may replace our coach light on the back of our house.  We also have to replace bulbs in our second story floodlights.  DH is renting a ladder from Menards and getting the supplies we need from there.  Menards just banned anyone under 16 from their stores for the time-being, so poor DefConn is going to be sad.  He loves Menards.

I'm not sure what else we're doing.  I feel like we should clean the house.  And we need to go through all our kitchen cabinets to get rid of stuff and reorganize.  Of course, more embroidery and Ozark.

What's on your quarantine weekend list?

Re: FRIDAY!

  • Going for a run? That’s about all I’ve got. H wants to touch up paint in the new laundry room/pantry and he needs to cut apart the tree that fell over the winter.

I’ll probably start organizing the room where we’ll make the nursery. H keeps saying “we need to go through it” but really there’s nothing to go through, but his anxiety really comes out when things aren’t organized or “put away where they go” so I’m going to pretend to go through things to make him happy.

Other than that I’m hoping to get some sleep. The last few days have been tough for insomnia so I’m hoping for some naps.
  • Work has been crazy busy the last couple of days.  I am looking forward to the weekend.  I might work in my garden.  It's been so sunny here the past few days, and my crocuses and tulips are starting to pop up.  But so are the weeds ...

  • I'm so glad the weekend is near. We're doing virtual trivia again tonight, which I'm really looking forward to. Last week we came in second place, by 1 point. This week we've added a small entry fee, and the winner will split the pot with a local food bank. (Although if we won I'd let the bank take the whole thing.)

Not much else this weekend. We need to do some cleaning, but I'd rather be outside. It's been sunny and gorgeous. I'd like to go for a walk, but also enjoy our back yard and deck. I'm also starting to notice that it's time to cut the grass. My dad came over and cut it the weekend we moved in, but I haven't gotten around to buying a lawn mower yet. I might check into ordering one from home depot and picking it up. I don't want to be in stores if I don't have to, but I don't see how I can go another month without mowing.

Other than that, same old quarantine stuff. We don't need a lot of supplies, so I'll probably order a small delivery with some fresh produce and just stay home. My wine delivery is supposed to come today.
How is the new house? Are you still happy with it?
  • Finally cleaning the bedroom set we picked up a couple weeks ago that is still sitting in our garage.  I need to do a grocery run in the next few days, so trying to be strategic about where to go to get the most stuff on our list.  Very excited to start Ozark too!!  We're on season 6 of Shameless (which is soooo great) but I could use a break.  Hopefully lots of walks and outside time!

Really starting to miss seeing my family so we're trying to video chat a few times a week.  I caught my mom when she was visiting my Gma (healthy, but 93 and lives alone so mom visits everyday) and she LOVED seeing the little guy roll and scoot around :)

Work is super busy this morning so i need to get through that.  Then probably just hanging with the little guy this afternoon while H works.  I think we're doing a virtual game night with H's siblings tonight too so that will be fun.

Hope everyone stays healthy and has a good weekend!

It's gloomy here too.  Took the kids for a worm/snail-looking walk a bit earlier, during a window in which none of us have web sessions.  The weekend is supposed to be nicer weather.
I've been watching Sunday mass from my parish at home but going into Holy Week it's going to start to feel strange.  My parents' home is at the epicenter of the epicenter so we're leaning towards not attempting an Easter gathering.
  • Easter alone at home will be very strange.

THIS.   We always go to DH's aunt and uncle's house.   They have many children so when we go it's a big crowd.  That's just not happening.

I just spent an additional $39 in shipping so I can have our Easter dinner delivered before Easter.  I normally hate paying this and feel like that small amount for having some kind of feeling of control over that meal gives me some odd sense of peace.

We love it! The silver lining for us in the whole pandemic has been the timing of the house. We moved in the weekend before we got WFH orders and things started getting cancelled, so we had lots of free time for unpacking and arranging everything. I'm really glad that we have a bit more space and now both have dedicated offices on separate floors, but I'm also really glad we have a yard now. I don't know what we would have done with the dog if we'd still been in the old house. There was really no yard  or anywhere we could let her off leash.

The drawback is that we haven't been able to go shop for the little things. Not having hand towel racks in the guest bathroom isn't worth going to Target over, but it's annoying. I'm really just so thankful that the timing worked out like it did. If we'd closed even a week later, it would have been a struggle to get movers and utilities installed and everything else.
  • @MyNameIsNot, Home Depot/Lowes would probably deliver your lawn mower, if you don't even want to go to the store at all.  Or Amazon sells lawn mowers with free shipping also.  Though delivery days for any of those retailers might be longer than you want to wait.

I've been organizing around the house more and will continue that this weekend.  Now that I'm home all the time, the mess/clutter is extra-extra driving me nuts.

I've also been seeing that now they are recommending masks, even for healthy people, when they go out in public.  When I get off work in a couple hours, I need to check out one of those You Tubes for making one from fabric, without having to sew.  Because I do need to briefly go out in public to pick up a few things from the grocery store and go to the bank (drive thru only).

I went to the office yesterday to pick up my paycheck.  I actually ended up working the rest of the afternoon there.  It's easier than WFH and I felt "safe" because hardly anyone else was there.  My cube is in a large room with over a dozen other cubes.  I was the only one in that room.  Of course, I was still careful about hand washing.  Not touching anything I didn't have to and then use paper towel/hand sanitize/hand wash, if I did.

  • My "coworkers" are being a hindrance today, lol.  Maple Bar wants to play with the touchscreen of my laptop* while I'm trying to work.  And Izzy is sitting on the papers I have next to me, lol.

*Actually, I'm impressed by MB.  Even for being a young kitten, from one of the first times she was sitting on my lap, she figured out that if she paws at JUST the very side of the screen that it makes the display move.  And she likes that!  She'll stare at the middle of the screen fascinated, while she moves it on the side with her paw, lol.

She doesn't try to sit on the keyboard like a lot of cats do.  She doesn't touch any other part of the screen.  Only the scroll bar on the right.  All the more impressive because I don't use the touch screen at all.  So it isn't like she even watched me do it and then copied it.  She figured it out the first time she became interested in the display.  She tentatively touched the very side and seemed a little surprised when the display moved.  Now that she has discovered the "power", she'll occasionally come over and want to play with the display when I have my laptop open.  Fortunately, I've always been in the habit of keeping my laptop closed when I'm not using it!

  • @charlotte989875, since you're now in the banking industry and we were talking about HELOCs with their variable interest rates the other day, I thought I'd share!

I just got my HELOC statement in the mail today.  The interest rate changed TWICE from last statement's interest rate!  I know it's from the Federal Reserve lowering Prime multiple times in their scrambling to help the economy.  But it was still surprising to see how much it changed over such a short time.

It went down half a percent a few days after my previous statement closed.  Then it went down another 1%, only twelve days after that.

So my small silver lining is my HELOC interest, which unfortunately has a substantial balance, went down 1.5%.  Though considering the country is on the brink of economic collapse and, in my own household, my H temporarily lost his p/t gig...it's a tiny silver lining.

  • We are doing good.  We are also looking to get the house refinanced again.  We are going from a 30 year to a 25 year and only going up $15 per month, but lowering the rate a smidgen too.  We had 3.5% and probably wouldn't have done it, but we also think now is the time to get MIL off the loan, since she co-signed and its the only way to get her off.  Our current lender wouldn't re-evaluate the loan to get MIL off without a full re-fi, so I contacted our broker to see what he had for options.  H is happy we aren't "resetting" the clock on the mortgage either.  And with us using the accelerator program, we will pay it off in 18 years too.

This weekend will be lots of outdoor work.

It’s crazy to see just how much the rates are moving! Glad you’re getting a small break on that.

My team is actually doing an analysis on refi’s and and new mortgage volumes now; the lower interest rates make new volumes increase but the huge increase in unemployment counters that. Everyone is trying to figure out what is happening.
  • Oh!  I meant to tell you all.  With gas prices dropping like a stone.  There are three gas stations near me, on the same street, and I passed by all of them on my way to work yesterday.

$1.09/gallon, $0.89/gallon, and $0.88/gallon :O!  But then I passed the gas station near my work and it was it's usual $2.13/gallon.

I was reading an article last week that, with the huge extra supply right now, gas was heading to a national average of $1.49/gallon over the next couple weeks.  But 88 cents!  Dang!

There were lines of cars into the street for the two that were below 90 cents/gallon.  When I came back home 5 hours later, one of those gas stations still had a line.  And the other one had their gas signed turned off!  They were open.  I think they just temporarily ran out of gas, lol.

  • $.88 cents!  Don’t think I’ve ever seen it that low.

gas is finally low and no place to go!

I remember gas was around $1 when I started driving.  But yeah, getting in my car and driving somewhere is a luxury right now. I have nowhere to go.
  • Ugh...all the bummers this afternoon with one bright spot.

Our Ozarks trip is postponed to 2021.  DH's cousin, who's a nurse, has Covid.  She's recovering, which is good.  Our stay at home order is extended two more weeks (which I'm not upset about really, it's keeping us safe).

I'm really fucking missing people today.  I'm all of a sudden super sad and angry.  Ugh.

Bright spot: We're getting an Aldi in my town.  We need another grocery store and I.LOVE.ALDI.  I don't shop there often enough because it's well out of my way.
  • I am going to do some work in the garden, I have 3 different types of peas (shelling, sugar and snap) planted as well as lettuce and kale.  Then I'll work on my "here's the thing, fuck everyone) MFM counted cross stitch.  The bathroom needs a deep cleaning.  Unfortunately sexy time is off the table due to a pretty brutal period.  Good times.  I am going to try and make gluten free brioche, I will report back with the results.

ON the upside, my "Hoarders" marathon has inspired boyfriend to organize the basement.  It's no where near Hoarders level, but definitely needs some work.

It all hit me this afternoon too. I’m exhausted but also I miss seeing people in person, I miss leaving my house, and adding pregnancy to all of this is just, a lot and getting to me now. I know there’s no evidence that covid is more dangerous for pregnant women, expect all my doctors keep saying other cornoviruses are, so be extra cautious just in case. We planned and waited for the right time and turns out the right time ends up being right in the middle of a global pandemic. It’s just, hard right.

So yeah, I’m right there with you. I’m sad and angry too.

    But yay for Aldi’s!!!
  • Drive by wave hello. Been on conference calls and webinars all day. I'm exhausted and my brain is tired. On the plus side my sinus infection is finally feeling better so maybe I'm finally on the mend after nearly 3 weeks of various virus issues.

work dropped off cookie decorating kits at each of our houses which was nice. Going to let baby B decorate one - this might be bad.
  • Got some yard work done earlier today then came in and cleaned bathrooms. Tomorrow I have a happy hour with college girlfriends. We are suppose to have our annual girls' trip in early June. I'm guessing that isn't going to happen.

We finished watching Jack Ryan last night. I finished Mrs. Maisel this afternoon. Now w have to figure out what our next show will be. Maybe Ozark. I'm so glad the weather is better so we can get outside. We are seeing neighbors (staying apart appropriately) so it is nice to see other humans. I am so tired of eating at home. We usual go out to dinner once a week, and I miss it. I know FWP!

We are waiting to hear from DD as to whether SIL and the boys will come down here for a few weeks. I don't want to pressure them into a decision. She has a week before she will be working in the Covid ICU. I have a good friend whose husband has metastatic prostate cancer. She is trying so hard to keep him virus free. My heart aches for them. They are the most adorable couple.

    Stay healthy WW!
