TGIF!

Well, maybe not so much now but...

I got an unexpected windfall this morning. My previous Obamacare insurance company, that I kept using up until April 1 when my new health insurance coverage began at my job, issued me a partial refund.

On the other hand (this is not necessarily a bad thing), I have a time crunch today. I have to fit in 6 to 8 hours of billable time around 2 or 3 Zoom sessions. Then tomorrow I have a couple of Zoom sessions scheduled. Hoo boy. I will appreciate some quiet time on Sunday!

Re: TGIF!

  • Busy day at work today after taking yesterday off.  Plus, Fri. is one of my busiest days anyway.  Still have a lot of personal stuff I need to take care of (sigh), albeit online.  That's going to be another priority today.

Grocery shopping and picking up prescriptions time again.  Either today or tomorrow.  I will have to battle The Walmart this time, ugh.  It might even have to be a double with a stop at Winn Dixie (grocery store) also.

Because of iced tea, lol.  A gallon of unsweetened iced tea in the fridge is one of my "must have", regular beverages.  But only some Walmarts carry it and not always.  My local Winn Dixie usually has it.  Oooohh, but here in the South where people just love their sweet tea, you can find gallons of that for days.  Multiple brands and choices.  It's frustrating that not all grocers will have just one product slot for one brand/choice of unsweet tea.  I only ask for one.  Yet at least half don't.

The weather is perfect today and I think will be great all weekend!  I'm going to try to force myself to stop being in a funk and take my dog out for a walk.  I know I'll really enjoy it once I do it, it's just getting out of the inertia that's hard.

Glad you were able to have a virtual appt with your doctor @VarunaTT
Lol @short+sassy that whole paragraph about iced tea is very southern..well I guess the unsweetened tea not being in demand.  Good luck on your search!

Going to the beach again this weekend as it's supposed to finally stop raining tonight.  Just trying to get through today.
  • I'm so glad it's Friday. I'm so tired and dragging. I slept for at least 7 hours last night, but I could easily go back and sleep for 4 more hours right now. I'm sure it's still allergies, but it's a lot.

Not much for this weekend. SIL decided to move to Florida. I get why, but it seems like such a bizarre time to want to make a long distance move. So, they're having their house painted this weekend so that they can list it next week. Which means MIL will be coming here with niece all weekend. I'm looking forward to having some company, even though I'm still a little nervous about being around anyone. I keep reminding myself that she's been taking the same precautions as we have, but I'm having anxiety about it. I also haven't bought a new mattress for the guest room since we moved, so if they're staying the night they're going to have to sleep on the couch or an inflatable, but I think they're going back to SIL's overnight.

Other than that, it should be a nice weekend. We have a ton of yard work to do and are expecting some great weather, so looking forward to spending time outside. Will probably do a fire to burn some of the yard waste, and for fun.

Trying to get my job done and coordinating what the kids are doing is not a fun balance through the week.   I am grateful that this is possible and grateful that Saturday we can catch up or do nothing.

Chiquita has slacked this week and DH and I have had to have a CTJ w/ her last night to finish her stuff.   I left her on the honor system and it failed - so now we go back to being more hands on.   Chiquito is really trying to sound out his words but still has a short attention span.

MIL may come over and sit on a porch while the kids play.   I am sympathetic to her that she's paying the price for FIL's frequent departures and if the kids can stay away and she wears a mask I'm trying to be OK with it assuming the kids can stay away and she can sit in a chair.

I have reached the point in my life that sleeping sometimes makes me feel worse in the morning and I am EXCITED that new shower curtain liners will be showing up tomorrow.   Last week it was a hanging basket for my fruit.

I did decide to buy a few items for myself.   The older I get the more I find that my underwires are just uncomfortable so I've got a few bralettes heading my way and bonus -  a local small business had the same ones that are super popular at big retailers.   So I supported them with the order that they'll ship and I get something pretty.   Hopefully DH enjoys.
  • It’s Friday. Hopefully they push off the lay-offs another week. I would like five pm to be here already.

Otherwise, nothing new here. I had a really weird dream last night that kind of threw me for a loop this morning. Plus I woke up in the middle of a deep sleep cycle so I am dragging. I’m kind of surprised at how messed up I am from the dream. Clearly I haven’t let some things go the way I thought I had.

I feel bad for my parents. They haven’t seen each other for almost a month and a half now. My mom kind of moved to my grandparent’s when my grandmother broke her ankle to help. Then the pandemic really hit and because my brother is a piece of shit and can’t stay home or away from people for the life of him, she stayed there. She is super immunocompromised and can’t take the risk. My dad also has high blood pressure and diabetes, so I’m not jazzed about him being around my brother either. But my poor dad is really struggling without my mom and I know they really miss each other.

    I’m ready for a margarita.

I'm so tired of working.  I say that fully understanding how lucky I am to have a job and am extremely thankful for that, i'm just burned out at the moment.  It's been super difficult to transition to work from home coming directly off maternity leave.  I feel like i'm being left out of a lot of conversations/projects because no one has seen me in like 5 months.  Possibly overreacting, but man it's hard not to feel that way.

On the plus side, it's supposed to be gorgeous all day and weekend so we're going to try and do a bunch of yardwork.  BIL/SIL are going to take a bunch of our overgrown perennials (hostas, irises, lillies) which i'm excited about bc i hate to just throw those away.  The babe is hitting another growth spurt and all of sudden clothe don't fit and he looks HUGE.  I can't wait until our families are able to see him again :)

I hate that as well.  I've given so many away - sometimes I post them for free online and let people pick them up.  I have to separate them again this spring, but I might just make my front yard all hostas this year in an attempt to kill the weeds.

I think this year I might give away some herbs for free as well.  I have lovage that I use all the time, but the plant produces like crazy!  I still have dried stuff that will last me another year, and I'm about to have fresh again.  And all my parsley survived the winter, and my lemon balm and mint went crazy ...

I have a four day weekend, and have no real plans.  Originally this was going to be the start of my European trip, so I thought I would take two days off regardless.  Tuesday is a big anniversary in the Netherlands, so I thought I would take it off for myself.  I will try not to mope around, but I'm really upset I can't go.  I haven't been to visit my cousin in three years, and I really wanted to see her again.  Especially since her birthday is in May, so I thought I could take her out when I was there.  And she is also a senior and lives in a retirement village alone, so I'm worried about her.

  • @CharmedPam a little different but once when I was like 15, I woke up a little earlier than normal (like maybe 9 or 10am) and took a shower in the downstairs bathroom. When I came back upstairs my mom was on the phone interrogating my crying best friend. My mom had gone to wake me up and I wasn't in my room. My mom immediately assumed the worst and had been calling all of my friends demanding to know where I was, lol. I still tease her about that.

SSDD here. DH and I are going to get new dining chairs. One of the ones I bought secondhand a few years ago literally collapsed under DH yesterday, oops. So now I return to the old internal argument, do we just get Ikea because we don't care about leaving it behind or do we finally get something we love, or at least like, and eventually ship it?

Ive reached the “I’m tired of temporary furniture were only buying things we’ll keep and love” but also I hope we never have to move again. It’s a tough choice!
  • @CharmedPam there are actually genetic tests you can do to see medication responses and which ones work best. Some people have to do it when they are extremely treatment resistant.

  • Back to the Dr this morning for more breathing monitoring and a new inhaler that will (hopefully) work better than the last one.

I’m just trying to make it to the end of the day. Work has been super busy and remote has been more of a struggle this week than most. Just really ready for a break this weekend!

Anyone else catch the Parks & Rec reunion? I loved the end!
  • @ei34, I'd never even heard of sweet tea until I was out of college, lol.  At least not "true" sweet tea.  Sure, there was sweet flavored iced teas like Nestea Raspberry where I grew up in CA.  But not sweet tea in the sense of it's just iced tea with a dump truck load of sugar thrown in.  It's one of those puzzles for me.  It is so disgusting and nasty tasting, I can't even fathom how people drink it.  Yet, I also know that most people love it and I'm the weird one that doesn't, lol.

For extra fun.  I've sometimes had people who have always lived here be astounded when I tell them that restaurants and fast food having two tea urns...one for sweet and one for unsweet...is just a Southern thing.  The rest of the country doesn't usually do that, it's just an unsweet urn.  ((Gasp and pearl clutch)), "You mean people have to add sugar themselves?!?!".  "Yes, that is what people do," lmao.  It's so neat and interesting the wide variety of regional differences our country has!

@VarunaTT, Good luck to K, I hope they're able to get it all done and have it over with by May 5th!  Good luck to you also with the new meds.  I hope they help.

@levioosa, Continued good thoughts for you.  I hope Fri. comes and goes with no more furloughs/layoffs.

Some good news for me this morning.  I hadn't checked my personal bank account in a few days, but I did this morning.  My stimulus had been deposited on Wed.  Woo hoo!  Just in time for taking care of my May credit card bills, lol.  It actually is.  I typically pay down my 'cc's with the direct deposits from my p/t gig job.  But that job temporarily ended in the last week of March.

They pay me in the beginning and middle of the month.  May 2nd is the first payment I'll be missing from them.  Coincidentally, the stimulus is almost what a month's wages is from them, so it's nice to have one more month where I don't have to be juggling from other accounts.

    --------------------

Though some other bad news on that p/t gig.  They sent a mass e-mail a couple weeks ago that, once routes start ramping back up, they will be cut down to only one day/week in most places for an indefinite period of time and will also be removing some of the hotels people service.  My route is normally 4 days/week!!!  So that is already going to be a 75% cut in pay.  I also checked how many hotels I still have.  At least for now, they've only taken away two.  Not great, but I was expecting worse.

I really don't know what to expect from that gig job.  It's totally dependent on the hotel industry both nationally and then locally for each individual route.  Specifically conferences.  Yeah, I know.  Yikes.  They may not even start the route back up at all for a few months and then it may not go back to 4 days/week until fall or maybe not even until next year.

No choice but to roll with the punches!  I'm fortunate in that I don't rely on that money to pay basic bills.  But it helped me take a bite out of my debt every month and I do have a whole lotta that!

Hope the meds work @VarunaTT.  Funny you should mention that because I set up a call for my own doc.  I was talking to my therapists about all the meds (antidepressants included but many others) I’ve ever been on and how NONE have ever worked so I’m going to call my doctor to ask if that’s a thing? Like medication is immune to me? The only loophole I see is my birth control because I never got pregnant.

We have a good weekend on the books too!

I think my parents think I'm going to get covid and die immediately.  I took a longer than usual nap yesterday and they called like 3 times, had my sister try to contact me, emailed me and when I finally got back to them they wanted my friends phones’ numbers and license plate number.  I looked at my work phone today and they even called that.  I told them to give me at least a two hour no response window before they stick the dogs on me because sometimes I sleep.  🙄
I had that with my parents like 2 years ago. I had contacted them at like 7 on a Saturday and didn't hear back which was unusual. Tried again like an hour later, nothing, tried my dad's cell phone, nothing. Started to get worried, even asked my brothers and they tried too. I finally got a call from my parents at 10pm they had been at a friend's party and dad had his phone off. I scolded them for scaring me :) They normally are not out that late, ever, like probably first time in 10 years kind of thing so I started freaking out.

Work dropped off happy hour treats again - popcorn and beer. This time it was cheese popcorn instead of butter and then also caramel. Last time neither popcorn was good. I just tried some cheese and it is SOOOOO GOOOD. This place always has good popcorn so I don't know why last time wasn't good. Although maybe it would be better for my diet if it wasn't good
    So nice!

That reminds me, @charlotte989875, did you ever decide on a reward for your team for all the extra work they've been doing?

Apparently popcorn and beer is a popular option, lol.

Alternatively, can you pay for individual lunch orders to be delivered through Seamless, Grubhub, Uber Eats or whatever delivery service is available and have a Zoom lunch meeting?

I can’t spend more than $10 so I could possibly do lunch. We can’t give gifts of more than a “nominal” amount.

we've had 4 drops so far - they've all included beer bc it is on a happy hour day:
    1. 6 donuts
    2. Cookie making kit (sugar cookies and bags of icing) for those with kids and predecorated cookies for those without
    3. 2 kinds of popcorn
    4. 2 kinds of popcorn

I've seen another company I know have pizzas delivered to employees' houses. I think really anything to show you notice their hardwork is well-received, no matter how big or small it is
I love this! It's so nice to show people some appreciation.

My company has two large "business units". The one that I'm not in gave everyone gift cards for Grubhub/UberEats. My unit gave us nothing. I'm still salty about that.

That does make it tougher. But you could couple a 40 minute Zoom party onto whatever else you do.

Happy Hour Margaritas delivered are less than $10. Just sayin.’
