Getting a New Wedding Date

I was originally a May 30th bride (coming up soon). However, due to COVID, we decided to postpone to a later date. We spoke with our venue and received a new date of Oct 24th. I wasn't too excited at first but I am grateful that we got to reschedule. We have a soft hold on this new date, and I'm just a bit iffy about solidifying it. I worry that there will be gathering restrictions, and if I lock this date in, my fiance and i will have to make the tough decision of who can/cannot come to our celebration. What should I do?

Would you want to push it out further, say May 2021? Is that an option?

I think the longer you wait, the better chance you have of not having to edit your guest list.

I had a friend that was scheduled for an April wedding and she postponed until Labor Day weekend. She is also a bit worried now... but here are some ideas we came up with together.

    1. Get Married Anyway.
One thing that is kind of fun is to actually just get married. You two can become legally wed and it can either me "your little secret" or you can share it with folks. Personally my husband and I eloped without telling anyone and it was soooo fun to plan the quick little, intimate wedding between us two in a pretty location.

    2. Reception Later.
Since we eloped without telling anyone that date is our date. But, 6 months later we still threw an amazing and fun party. The perk of this was that there was very little stress for me that date because we were already married. In my opinion, it also made for a more fun occasion for guests. They didn't have to spend the entire day wrapped up in a wedding. They got to come to a party, drink, dance and have fun.

    3. Vow Renewal.
We also "made it real" for our guests at the reception with a fun little vow renewal. That helped them feel as if we had really gotten married. We didn't keep our elopement a secret, but if you did, you could just have a regular ceremony. Trust me, the moments are still this same.

I thought these were some cute ideas, if you do decide to postpone:

    **Removed for ToS violation**

    Good luck!
Please DO NOT do the bolded.   @knottie51eece2b5aacda3a these are trying times for plenty and there's never a point where dishonesty can be advocated.  Be honest with people.

    Agreed. Knottienumbers gave terrible advice.

  • Pretty sure she's a vendor plugging her website anyway.
  • The virus isn't going away any time soon so I hope your venue will be lenient to let you postpone again if you can't have all your guests. After all, you likely had your guest list before the pandemic. Perhaps you can clarify with them.
We had to postpone our March 20 wedding 9 days before it happened. The venue could only offer us July 4 for now because other weddings were already booked this year. I am not enjoying the continuation of wedding planning--especially since our new date may still not be far enough out and we may have another postponement. Alas! What can we do? Plan and plan again.
If we do have to postpone, we have already decided to do a small ceremony on our 2nd wedding date with only my grandmother (at least 6 ft away), then still have the whole shebang at yet another date. We've already invested too much $$ in this celebration to not go through with it.
I recommend putting a back-up plan into place.
  • thank you all!
@jane2311 our plan b was going to be a private ceremony and party later as well when Rona broke out. i really want a church wedding...so i will wait until our october date. I definitely feel you on the investing part of celebrating.
