Taco Tuesday

^not just for the alliteration.  We actually are having tacos tonight.  SSDD otherwise.  How is everyone else?

Re: Taco Tuesday

  • We had taco Monday.

It’s cold here. Sunny but it was 30 when I went out to run this morning. I’m so ready for warm weather! In part because I want it to be spring but also because pants are uncomfortable.

Not much here, busy day at work but at least it makes the time go by faster.
  • We're having "healthy" tacos tonight if I feel like cooking.  For some reason, Tuesday is a day I really hate cooking.  The meat is defrosted though.  Trying to get back on track with my healthy eating.

Still sleepy.  Found out one of my "sub" bosses who was out last week went to Florida on vacation and is now here just walking all over the damn office.  Honestly, I think I have to move out of this state.  The cavalier attitude of conservative (and usually evangelical) Missouri people is really starting to get to me.

    Otherwise, SSDD.
  • Never a bad day for tacos!

Hopefully I'm not jinxing myself.  But I don't have too much to do work-wise tomorrow and am planning to take a vacation day.  I'm looking forward to having a total veg-day in the middle of the week, lol.

Speaking of work, I was cc'ed on a very interesting e-mail exchange that lines right up with the coworker problem I mentioned last week.  So weird and coincidental!  As a reminder, that's the coworker I was feeling a little usurped by and whom I strongly suspected was falsifying her timesheets.

The first e-mail was from her to (only) the Big Boss telling him that she had a few more things to do for steel, but things were wrapping up and she was ready for other work.  In a nutshell, he responded back...and cc'ed me...that he didn't have anything else for her right now and she should start reporting back to (her other boss).  Which is also a different building (once we're no longer WFH), where she still has an office.  And that "me" and/or the steel engineer would let her know if we needed help.  He signed off thanking her for her help and with the hope that things would be picking up soon.

So, the good news is, she is officially off of the steel department unless/until things change.  I am so relieved!  I'm glad to have that work all to myself again, especially since there isn't much right now.  It also sounds like she probably/hopefully didn't get in trouble, though I wouldn't have been told if she was.  At the same time, I don't think her initial e-mail came out of nowhere.  I think something was said to her.  I'm planning to reach out to her this afternoon and see how she is doing.  It probably sounds like I don't like her, which isn't true.  She's a great coworker and I consider her a work friend.  I was just annoyed...not even so much at her...that her help was supposed to be temporary for a few months, but then it dragged way past when it should have.

  • Now I want tacos for dinner. Tonight is leftovers. Tasty leftovers but still not tacos.

Still cold here as well. I'm so over it. I want to be able to take the baby for a walk or at least just hang out in the backyard.

Debating if I want to start taking the baby back over to our in-laws this weekend. The isolation is really starting to get to me and seeing them on Sunday was so nice. The pause in our area ends on Friday, and obviously I'm not going to go wild and start seeing hoards of people, but it would be nice to go see family again. It's going to be close to 70 degrees so we could hang out on the deck and stay distanced.
  • I'm awake but feeling pulled in too many directions.

Chiquito is 5 and is so tapped out of distance learning.   I feel for him and yet do not think that school should be back.   This is just hard and there's no real fantastic solution.   I can't work with him while I need to do my job and he needs a teacher to help him focus.   I just need to keep reading and working on fundamentals with him.

  • SSDD here. Tacos sound good, but we have a ton of leftovers from grilling all weekend that we should eat instead. Work is super busy, but I put in for a vacation day on Friday anyway. I might end up switching to next Friday and having a long Memorial Day weekend. It's our anniversary, and while we can't go anywhere, having 4 days off to enjoy would be really nice.

I'm feeling stuck in a rut. I think maybe we should finally buy some furniture for one of the empty rooms or paint something or do another house project. IDK. I've been so hesitant to spend money, but I need something.
  • We're doing stuffed peppers, but a slight variation for a few reasons.
BabyKitten won't be able to eat the pepper, so we're going to chop it up for her after it's cooked.

    How I do it:
    Ground turkey
    diced onions
    Canned tomatoe {optional}

Fry in pan together. Just until browned

    Mix together with cheese and put in the pepper {we are using red and yellow}
    Put in oven - 350* approx 10min {mostly to melt cheese and vaguely cook pepper}

    Done :)

I had to walk away from socials yesterday because I'm just pissed.
Our premier allowed his 2 daughters come visit on Mother's Day. Doesn't mention anything  about social distancing.
I would LOVE to see my mum but we've visited once and hugged. Neither of us could resist. We can't do it. We can't social distance visit anyone with Michelle because how t.f do you explain to a not-quite-2yr old they can't hug their grandparents?

    I'm hoping for answers soon.

Also allergies are making my eyes puffy. I thought it was from crying yesterday {yep, emotional break} but nope, still puffy a.f this morning.
I need to vacuum, so I'm sure that's not helping.

Survived the dentist with Baby B. He screamed the whole time but that's par for the course for him. They're definitely being very conservative with protections - wait in car, masks, temp check, hand sanitizer, can't touch doors, etc. They're also not doing the cleaning with the spinny brush thing so really kind of a pointless visit.

My neck guy is open again so I have an appt this afternoon. I've been having my bad headaches which I get when it's really out of whack so I'm glad he's back open. Probably will need a few extra visits which sucks ($$$) but at this point I'd pay anything
  • No tacos for us tonight. We had them for two weeks straight so I needed a little break. We’re having spaghetti tonight instead. Now I just need to figure out what to eat the rest of the week.

Other than that, SSDD. Just holding on to each day of pay possible.

  • Now I want tacos! But good authentic ones, and those are no where near me.
@MissKittyDanger right a daughter your age just wont get it. It’s sad, on so many levels.
@kvruns was your dentist appt a routine check up or emergency procedure?  Ours are still closed (for cleanings) I think.

I couldn’t drag my ass out of bed today. I’m so sleepy. So I’ll do 45 min walk on my “lunch” and another 45 min after work before my group chat.  So dinner will have to be leftovers because of time.

Im right there with you on the cold! I’d be tolerating all of this so much better if it was just 10 degrees warmer!

Are you all still up in the air on returning?

This is probably a dumb question, but can he just not on distance learning for a few days? Maybe just do some things he likes? I’m burned out on online work and I’m an adult that understands these things. I can’t even imagine for a 5 year old.

That’s our anniversary, too! We were originally planning a trip since it’s our 5th but that’s obviously out the window. We’re both taking Friday off for an evening longer Memorial Day.

We are distance learning until school is out at the end of June (16th or 19th I think).   So this is it.   It's what we're doing.

The issue of him just not is
-DH and I still have work to do.
-Chiquita has work to do and she's off to 5th grade/middle school next year.
-It's not setting either of us up if he wears me down.

It's a groove we are trying to work in and this week has just been tough.   They are starting to do class Zoom meetings and I think those may help.

@charmedpam it was a routine cleaning. It was originally scheduled for end of March but it got bumped out to May. They just opened last week for cleanings, previously it was just emergency.

My own dentist is just opening this week for cleanings, it was only emergencies before. I actually got in for a cleaning the day before they closed in March so I lucked out.

That’s really hard. Hopefully the class meetings will help!

All the good vibes because it’s got to be really tough doing what you’re doing.
  • So...we have a possible 'rona exposure at the office.  Management is trying to keep it on the DL, but there's a gossip wheel from hell in this office.  They're dumb for even trying, they should just be transparent.

Woman's husband is a prison guard.  Takes care of a prisoner who has tested positive.  They all live together.  She has been coming to work.  Yay.  They both were tested yesterday.  IDK anything about results yet.

@varunatt that's always unnerving with the "what if" on exposure. That's good they can get tested though to find out for sure.

For anyone who is curious, in situations like this the CDC does not currently recommend special scrutiny or quarantine for those who have been exposed to an asymptomatic person who has been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
  • Dinner for us is pork chops in the crock pot.  They are smelling amazing already.  I've been doing meal planning and shopping every 2-3 weeks during our stay home orders.  I hope I can continue after I'm not WFH.  It's nice to have all ingredients for meals in the house and usually just have to thaw meat the day before.  Planning what we'll have each day doesn't work for me so I just figure out 8-10 meals we can make, make my grocery list and then pick something to cook about every other day.

We live in a four-plex.  The eight-year old boy across the hall was diagnosed with "Covid Toes" about 3 weeks ago.  She told us 2 weeks ago.  They were both sick with what she thought was influenza in early March but weren't tested for the virus.  They recovered and then her son's toes because very swollen and discolored.  Went to Dr. and they were tested for Covid anti-bodies.  Both tested positive for those and told they had recovered and were no longer contagious.  We share a common entry, hallway and laundry facilities.  It's likely we were exposed in early March.  Fortunately, we never had symptoms and were vigilant about staying home and social distancing.  It's for just circumstances like this that we have stayed away from my elderly Mom.  Then she went to my brother's house on Mother's Day.  Ugh.  It's like I'm the parent and she's the child.  STAY HOME!

@kvruns glad to hear your neck guy (i guess it's an Acupuncture or Chiropractor?) is open again...neck and back pain is the worst, I can't believe how long you've been dealing with it!
@cupcait927 and @charlotte989875 boo for that freezing weather!  I woke up to 40 degrees today and thought that was bad.  A few weeks in the 60s would be really great...I just know I'm just going to wake up one day and it'll be 83.

@banana468 ugh all the vibes, I feel you with Chiquito.  My twins are a year younger (turning 5 this summer) but I'm about to lose it with the homeschooling.  They're burned out.  They along with older DD (Chiquito's age) have had mandated daily web sessions since March 17th and over the weekend their district excitedly announced supplemental daily sessions with the specials teachers (art, music, STEAM etc).  "Not required but join us for even more fun!"  They mean well but the thought of more web sessions on top of two PreK, one K, my son's weekly OT, PT, and Speech, and all of my web sessions with my own students...I laughed out loud.  And it was either that or burst into tears.  I can't believe this is our life until June 26th.  I've resigned myself to it but I'm incredibly anxious for what September will look like.  Without a vaccine I don't see all students being able to be in school every day. *acknowledgement that this is a FWP rant, so many people have it way worse and I know that*

    I'm so there with you.

DH and I are gainfully employed.   Thus far this has impacted a way of life and we're SO lucky that it hasn't affected our paychecks.  I get that we're extremely fortunate and we need to pay that forward.

I am rolling my eyes like nothing else though at some of the extras for the kids and asking them to do art or music with stuff we have.   Oh, my house is a shit storm, I have to move the computers and Legos to have a clear space to eat but let's find some pipe cleaners and tape and paint for art class today?  FUCK THAT NOISE.   I'm sorry specials teachers.  You work SO HARD - but some of this is not going to happen and please don't take it personally.   I'm really hoping that my K student can grasp how to read and that 5 +3 =8.   If he's not quite sure of how to shade or how long to hold a whole note until next year I'm OK with it.   Today for science he's going to learn about the appropriate measurements for a margarita and then he's also going to follow that with physical science as he muddles limes.
    Important science.
