Wedding Woes

Wednesday

IDK why the weeks feel so long right now, but the month itself seems like it's flying by.  My sense of time is super messed up.

We had a scary moment when K got an email from their professor telling them there was work missing and they couldn't graduate without it.  Thankfully, it was a very small assignment that K just misunderstood and the professor gave them until 5 today to finish it.  They finished it last night and got it turned it and have been told it's all okay now.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I wanted to go floating this weekend, but it's rained all week and it's supposed to rain on Saturday. I'm just not that confident in my kayaking skills to be on a high fast river, plus it's never as pretty when it's just rained.  I'm a bit pissy about it, I need some water time.  Maybe I'll just go float in the tank.

Re: Wednesday

  • I’m with you @VarunaTT, time is meaningless now. I said to myself this morning we just have to get through today, and tomorrow, oh wait and Friday. I’ve been hoping you’d have a “K is completely done!” update soon.

It’s cold here. Like broke a record for cold this morning. At least it’s sunny? That’s not doing much for me these days.

I just got an email from my HSA vendor saying “in these tumultuous times investing your HSA can help you save”. Umm or it can stay safe where it is and if I have unexpected medical costs I’m not typing my ability to pay to the most volatile market we’ve seen in decades.
  • I need a vacation. It's 10:00 am and work is already on my last nerve. We have these engagement surveys that we're supposed to take monthly, upward comments but also a bunch of other things. I've been putting mine off until I was in the headspace to be objective and constructive, but I'm at the end of the month and it's not going to be pretty.

I need to find a fun outdoor activity this weekend. Maybe we'll pack a lunch and go for a hike. There are a lot of trails within an hour of here. We haven't been since the pandemic started, but I know a few that are pretty much empty most of the time. I'm really in the mood to hang out at a local brewery, but of course that's off the table. Maybe I'll get a crowler and we can stand around the front yard and drink.

In good news, I think we're going to pull the trigger on a dining room table this week. I really like this from Wayfair  (clicky), and even with 2 extra chairs to seat 8 it's relatively inexpensive. I also really love this, but I wonder if I'd love it in 5 years. As soon as we choose a dining room table, I can change out the heinous light fixture in our dining room.
  • I think the second table wouldn’t age as well as the first @MyNameIsNot

Not too much happening here. It’s a one day at a time situation. I’m with Varuna, I’m trying to wrap my head around how each week feels so long but the month is already half gone. I also spent most of yesterday thinking it was Wednesday for some reason.

I slept super hard last night. My impending period is really messing with me. PMS fatigue plus emotional, mental and physical burnout from the pandemic is not my jam.

  • Insomnia hit again, I got 3 hours of very fitful sleep, at least I get to go to work in pajama pants.  Garden is doing fantastic, except for the blueberry bush, it barely flowered and when we tested the soil the PH wasn't acidic enough.  So, we'll be fixing that with some limestone and hope it produces next year.

@MyNameIsNot another vote for table #1, I personally prefer the classic clean look of that.

  • I took a vacation day today.  Though I still have a lot of personal stuff to do that I don't wanna, lol.

I was watching past episodes of Restaurant Impossible last night.  I was really excited to see he'd been at a restaurant in Larose, LA.  I looked up their menu and there were so many things that looked good!  But then I realized I was thinking of the wrong city, lol.  St. Rose, LA is a suburb of NOLA and is only about 30-40 minutes.  Larose, LA is over 2 hours away, lol.  Meh!  I vow to make my way there someday.  So far, they've made it through the pandemic.  They're open for limited seating starting on Fri.  I'd just been hoping for some closer delicious carry-out, lol.

@VarunaTT I'm glad that K was able to get everything completed
@MyNameIsNot I prefer the first one too..or I like both tables but prefer the first chairs
    @levioosa ugh feel better
My town's parks reopened for passive recreation on Monday.  There's a botanic garden a few blocks away, and the kids and i walked over a little while ago between web sessions.  It was beautiful- tulips everywhere, we saw some bunnies, chipmunks, frogs, turtles..the kids climbed on some rocks they like.  It was amazing.  Everyone has to wear masks or face coverings and I'm still searching for the right covering for my son- he has some congenital hearing defects that impact his outer ear, so masks don't stay up.  I followed a video tutorial to wrap a tshirt around his face but still searching for the right solution for him.  My daughters thankfully loved the masks.
  • @ei34 there are a few things you can use for the face mask. Some of these are long hair specific but they should help. Even a simple paper clip might do the trick.

  • @ei34 - my DH has problems keeping a mask on his ears.  We did elastic around his head to keep it in place - like this:
    https://makeitjustsew.com/how-to-make-a-diy-face-mask-free-pattern-for-an-accordion-style-face-mask/
We measure the length from edge of mask, around head to other edge and then subtracted 2" to give it some stretch.

I think the first one has more longevity while the second is more trendy. I'm looking for area rugs for my living room. Wayfair has decent prices but haven't found a thing I'm in love with so far. I did find one on Lulu and Georgia but it is a lot more expensive than Wayfair - better quality though I'm sure.
  • @mrsconn23 I remember that news segment! I can't bring your mom's face to mind though. Hugs to you and your family. I'm glad you were able to have some type of service for your mom. I know that is so important in the grieving process.

Positive thoughts for you @climbingwife. Congratulations to K @VarunaTT!
