Monday. Again.

Back to Monday, but I’m taking Friday off to have a 4 day weekend. It’s our anniversary Friday and while we can’t go anywhere we’re both taking off.

We picked flooring for the second floor this weekend and got everything ready to pull the carpet out, which is probably what we’ll spend our anniversary on.

Other than that pretty quiet weekend. MIL is bored so she cooked us dinner again. Great because she’s a far better cook than I am!

Enjoy the short week and your anniversary @charlotte989875!

Rainy Monday. After today the weather is supposed to start getting warmer and drier which I'm very excited about. I'm sick of being cold all the time in the middle of May.

Weekend was a mixed bag. The baby has been napping like a champ for the past week (like 2 hours at a time) but this weekend decided to only nap for 25 minutes at a time. Hopefully it was just a fluke and we can get back to better napping. Saturday night at my inlaws was so nice. My MIL got takeout from a local mexican restaurant and we sat outside on the deck the whole time. It was so nice just to see other humans again and talk to people face to face.

Sunday was a shit show. My mom attacked me at 7:30 am asking when she gets to see the baby and said it was "so painful" that my in-laws got to see the baby before she did. I was 100% planning on asking my mom if she wanted to come down yesterday to see the baby but she didn't even give me a chance. The baby decided to take even shorter naps yesterday and was a disaster all day. She was screaming at 7:30 last night because she was so overtired, which she never does. We put her to bed early and started watching Tiger King. 100% understand why people could not stop watching the trainwreck that is Tiger King.

Ugh I'm sorry @cupcait927 that really sucks.  It's beyond frustrating that the ambush happened at 7:30am before you could even invite your mom.  And boo for the poor naps.
@charlotte989875 glad you have a short week/long weekend coming up :)

Weekend was nice.  We did return to the beach.  As the weather gets warmer more people are coming.  Not in those photos of the beach in CA or anything...but a few weeks ago we were 200ish feet away from other people.  This weekend was more like 100'.  Which absolutely makes sense, summer is coming.  I love the beach autumn through spring and not really over the summer, so I usually avoid the summer crowds anyway, but right now, with it being one of the only open places, it's tempting to keep going for some Vitamin Sea (couldn't help myself).  Even though it's cold right now the kids get a big kick out of dipping their toes in the ocean, and watching the waves.

I woke up to a massive academic dishonesty issue in one class, so that's been my last 2.5 hours and definitely some more time today.

Happy anniversary on Friday @charlotte989875 !

I am SO SORE.   I planted flowers on Saturday and man oh man my legs are not used to me bending so much.    I am not in great shape and this confirms it when planting makes me feel like I used to after a day of rock climbing.

I am looking for a fun wine-themed gift for my "adopted" friend that I picked from our wine group.   I'm thinking either chocolates to pair or a thermal container that holds wine and keeps it cool & break-free in the summer.   I'm game for other ideas!

DH went out on the boat Saturday and said that the marina is set up so there's no way you can try to go to the places roped off.   The filet station is closed and the pool is still blocked off.   It's a bummer but needed.  If the weather is good this weekend we may need to have lobster and a boat ride (in no particular order) and some local white wine that pairs SO NICELY with buttered lobster.

On a different note - my dad's in the hospital.   He's having some issues with motor control and cognition and spent the weekend there.   It's rough because the hospital is in a hot zone and due to covid my mom had to drop him off.   They weren't anticipating that he'd be admitted so he's there with one pair of underwear and we wait for some results to see if there is anything conclusive found.  Based on what my mom says there may be signs of Parkinson's but there are cognitive issues displayed as well and those are also concerning.    He's 71 and is starting to age faster than I want him to.   So vibes for him and some conclusive results would be good.   What will frustrate all of us is if the results are, "We can't find anything" because then he's just going to go back to what he previously did.  When restrictions are lifted I want to see an elder-care attorney to talk about things with them.   I'm now also concerned for my mom because if she's questioning my dad's cognition then she needs my brother and me to advocate for her in the event that something happens to her.

So I'll leave this post with a funny story:   After planting flowers the weather was decent.   The kiddos asked if they could run through the hose in the front yard in their bathing suits and I happily obliged.   They had a good 15 minutes of youthful frolicking and went inside to change.   As I was cleaning up from planting Chiquito ran outside STARK NAKED because he was worried a bee got into the house.   It was so funny that he didn't realize standing outside on the front steps facing the street with no pants on could possibly be an issue on our busy road.  Oh to be young again!

@banana468 Fingers crossed you can get some good news about your dad! My mom was diagnosed with Parkinson's back in the fall but it took so many months of tests and different doctors to finally get to the diagnosis. My dad is 73 and has been having cognitive issues as well for the last couple of years and he's done two evaluations for dementia and Alzheimers that have come back negative for either condition, and his doctor said it's attributed to age, but I have my reservations.

This weekend was okay.  I'm struggling a bit at work b/c we have all of the doors open so that people don't have to touch doorknobs.  That's awesome and I do appreciate it.  It also means that I can find myself sitting in my office, hearing 3 conversations with at least 2 people at the same time, as well as the television noise in the lobby.  I'm trying very hard to deal with it, but last week it was loud for a lot of the week.  I put headphones in, but really all I'm doing is drowning out noise with more noise.  K offered up some noise cancelling ear plugs, but I'm not entirely sure about that.  I do need to hear my phone and co-workers.  IDK, I think I'm going to up my meds to the next dosage level and see if that helps me deal better.

All of that to say, the weekend was blissfully quiet.  K stayed the Fri/Sat night with their family to do a big project and so I was by myself.  We also ended up getting into a big argument on Sunday when they did come home.  I'm trying to acknowledge that this is really the first prolonged stressful time in our relationship between the last semester of school and covid.  Both of our patience has just been pushed and, TBH, broken.  We've got to find a way back.  I think we will, we both just need some down time and reconnection.

At my work, I use...not noise cancelling...noise BLOCKING headphones.  Like the kind you see at construction sites or on airport tarmacs, lol.  I'm not sure if they have ones where you can listen to music through them.  Mine don't and they were less then 20 bucks on Amazon.

You and I are about the same age (40s) so I assume we have about the same hearing.  They don't block 100% of hearing, but cuts it down SO much!  I'd guess by 50-75%.  However, I can still hear my work phone and cell phone ring.  I can also still hear people talking to me, but I'll pull them down a bit when someone is.

Fun project @charlotte989875 and happy early anniversary!
@banana468 sorry to hear about your dad.  Yard work makes me all stiff and achey too.  It’s probably why I stopped doing it...
@short+sassy and @VarunaTT Good luck with your work conditions.  Sorry you’re back at it while the majority of us aren’t.

So since my divorce I made some friends through my meetup group going through the same thing. One of them started to invite me to weekend jackbox games on zoom. It’s a lot of fun.  Friday I changed up my drink. Prosecco, crown royal peach, diet cran. it wiped me off my ass.  I don’t remember the last half of the night but I think I got obnoxious.  My friend re-assured me I didn't do anything to offend anyone (I’m not a pretty drunk) but Sat night was REALLY tame And only 2 drinks, as I was still recovering. Other than that, rain rain rain here in Chicagoland.

I’m sorry about your dad @banana468

Back to the grind today. FI and I had a nice weekend. I wish it was longer though. Friday was just a shit show at work. I don’t know why things kept going wrong but it just didn’t stop. I kept trying to tell myself just to be grateful I’m still there but it was still frustrating. This week is going to be rough. Since the lay-offs we don’t have enough staff for providers. And we have extra providers for the next two weeks. Should be really fun.

I’m thankful for a three day weekend coming up. My manager asked me if I wanted to take another day off like Friday or Tuesday to make it a four day weekend but I still feel uneasy about using up time like that. Especially because our company has a “request two weeks ahead” policy and I don’t want it to come back and haunt me, even if my manager told me it was okay.

Banana - Prayers for your dad that he gets to come home soon!

Varuna - Maybe some white noise in your head phones would help?

S+S - BBQ shrimp is one reason to return to NOLA!  They are so yummy!  I got the BBQ Shrimp & Ribeye from Brennan's Steakhouse when we were there in November and I still think about it!

We had a good weekend.  Saturday I was pretty tired feeling all day, so we took it pretty easy.  MIL came over so H could change the oil in her car.  We allowed her in the house, but she had to keep a mask on.  She was happy to get leg hugs from DD.  It also gave me a break as DD was so happy to see MIL.

Sunday H mowed the lawn, while I planted the new tree and ornamental grass I got.  We have a few spots that puddle due to poor drainage, so I'm trying these plants  to help.  The tree is supposed to really drink up and the ornamental grass is supposed to be good for it too.  If that works out, I will plant more next year.  But I don't want to invest in them and they all die because of too much water!

I have the chiropractor today and I am so ready for it!

Oh, fun!  Actually the restaurant I got the food from (Ralph's on the Park) is in the Brennan's restaurant family.  It's probably the exact same BBQ shrimp recipe, lol.

I forgot to mention.  I found out yesterday that Louisiana casinos are allowed to open today at a 25% capacity and if there safety plans have been approved by the Louisiana Gaming Commission.  I was pretty shocked!  However, New Orleans casinos still cannot open, per city rules.

There are two casinos in the NOLA suburbs that are in a different parish (county).  I have a players card at both.  One of them sent me an e-mail they are opening today and also shared the highlights of their safety plan.  Out of curiosity, I went to the website for the other one, but it didn't mention anything about reopening, today or otherwise.

After making a terrible roast the other day I have to say, I rocked dinner tonight. Tuscan chicken and green goddess pesto pasta salad.

    SSDD.
I wasn't able to join but my coffee friends met for a walk this evening. That makes me so optimistic for future hangouts. I have seen them since the end of March and I miss them.

Pretty good weekend except after my parents decided to invite me to visit the weekend before, my mom asks me not to visit because I had to be in my office more than once this week.

Then this morning, one of my supervisors makes a bunch of petty demands that wastes my time.

    Sigh.

Hopefully things will improve in some way soon.

Somehow weekends have started to seem shorter, even with less to do during them. H and I took Friday off just for a mental health day. We took the puppy to the park and hiked a trail. It was great, but it's starting to get hot already. We normally go for neighborhood walks after work, but it's been high 80's and muggy, so I wanted to start going in the mornings. Sadly, it was so hot last night that I couldn't get to sleep, so 6 am was not happening. It feels too early to turn on the A/C, but we're likely into 90's this weekend. Otherwise, good weekend. We did some yard work, started a puzzle, and hung out outside.

My company announced this morning that office workers will likely be WFH through the end of the year. One of the things that the CEO pointed out in his address was that having us come in would mean we'd need a steady supply of PPE that could be better utilized by front line and essential workers. Which probably means the price of those things is up and they don't want to pay it, but I'm going to embrace the social responsibility of that notion.

Normally this time of year I would be looking for a new pair of work sandals or shoes and a couple of tops too spruce up my summer wardrobe. I guess I'm going to order some new at-home clothes instead. I basically live in leggings and active tops now.

I added edemame and green beans.

Eta, there is nothing fancy about this, but it is easy and delicious.

You work for a law firm, no? It just sounds so similar to what we’re hearing at the bank. That the complexities of having us return safely, so that there won’t be spikes in transmission are so great (also costly) that keeping people home until treatment/a virus is more prudent.

I don't. I'm a lawyer, but I don't practice anymore. I work for a fortune 500 that's relatively risk adverse. It makes sense that we're in line with the banks.

My mushy side says they care about us want want to keep us home and keep us safe. My cynical side says that big companies know what it will cost them if they bring us in too soon and there's an outbreak, both in real dollars and in their image. Add in that they can actually quantify the loss in productivity versus make assumptions based on what old farts think they know, and the cost-benefit is pretty clear. But I'm going to stop being cynical and go with the mushy side for now. I need a little more mushy in my life.

That makes a lot of sense then why we’re hearing similar things.

And I’m going with the mushy side, too. I like to think they really want us to stay home and stay safe rather than worrying about the reputational risk and legitimate costs if hundreds/thousands of employees end up sick because they brought us back too soon.
