Covid-19 Electra Cruises - Summer Weddings - Any Update?

My wedding is scheduled for August 8th, 2020 with Electra Cruises in Orange County, California. I understand with the Covid-19, it made things way difficult, I have not heard from my wedding planner since the end of March. I have emailed her several times since then, and this week I see they are open, but yet my wedding planner has yet to email me back giving me an update for August. If you are booked with them, have you been responded to? Or if you were booked with them, did you receive a refund for the deposit?

This is an international board so you're more likely to hear about this on a local board (maybe Reddit or FB?)

That said, if your venue was not open during that time, your coordinator was not working and could not respond to your emails.  She was probably furloughed and therefore your emails would probably be unanswered.

If they only just opened they are probably just starting to go through things and will assess in an order of what is booked first.

If they just opened can you give them a week and then if you still don't have a response give them a call?

You may not be able to get the deposit back based on what other businesses have done and followed with Covid however you are due a response and hopefully soon if they are now open.

  • Thank you for the information. After additional research, I have found I am not the only bride having communication problems with this company. If they can post on their social media they are open again for new business, they should be able to respond to current clients regarding upcoming weddings, especially if some brides are traveling from out of state. I do appreciate your information!!!! I really do! Thank you!

    Right.   Are they just open?

PLEASE understand that they may have a serious backlog of emails.   When did they close?  When did they reopen?  If they were closed and therefore furloughed staff then that means possibly MONTHS of emails that they need to dig through.

I think of what it's like for me when I go on vacation for a week.   I feel like any stress relieved during that week comes back about 10-fold when I dig through all the emails that people couldn't address in my absence.   Now imagine that you are out of work, it's illegal to respond to emails in your absence and you weren't on vacation but were out for close to 3 months.   It's going to be hard to get a long response.

To give you an idea I have a reservation with Disney in August that I rebooked after they closed in March.  They announced last week their plans to reopen their parks on July 11th.   They have not stated when the resort I'm booked for will reopen.   They stated on Thursday the 28th that my dining plan would be refunded and all of my booked dining would be cancelled.  To date:
-Only yesterday on June 3rd did I start to see cancellations of my dining.   That's 6 days after the original announcement.
-The travel agency is still locked out of making updates to my reservation including a discount I'm due to receive for my hotel.
-There isn't word about when those discounts will be applied, how tickets can be used and what places will be open.   And they are a huge company.

So my point right now is that you need to be patient.   You're absolutely due answers and if you don't get them soon you should pick up the phone and ask.   And when you call I'd plan to do it at a time that you can be on hold for a while.
  • I agree they should at least have a general statement on their website about their status.  Like, "We are pleased to announce the reopening of Electra Cruise on June Xth.  Blah, blah.  For upcoming previously booked reservations, one of our representatives will be in touch with you as soon as possible.  We appreciate your patience."

With that said, it's been my experience...even before the pandemic...that companies are often atrocious at including even the most basic and pertinent info on their websites.  And that's companies both big and small.  So while that is something really obvious they should do.  Especially since it would add to their efficiency, because it would cut down on some of the calls/e-mails.  I'm also not surprised they haven't.

Good luck with your wedding!  I'm a San Clemente gal myself, born and raised.  Though I moved out of state years ago.
